Arc 3 Chapter 133: Scheming Lord, Cooperate a Bit (20)
"Is there a sound? It's probably just a rat knocking over some wood." another man replied indifferently.
"No, I remember that Lan Hui asked us to lock up that brat in this abandoned woodshed. Could it be..."
"You didn't see how badly injured he was when they threw him in here. He probably died a few days ago. However, we do need to deal with the body, it might start to rot if we leave it here."
Listening to their conversation outside Luo Liyan and Weichi Che felt their hearts in their throats.
Bending down, she intended to hide behind a haystack but the conversation outside made her reconsider.
"I think Lan Hui is quite interested in the brat. If we handle it this way we might face consequences later. It's better to pretend we don't know anything about the kid's life and ask Lan Hui what to do." said the man with a more cautious attitude.
The other man readily agreed.
Hearing their footsteps grow faint as they moved away, Luo Liyan breathed a sigh of relief pulled out the cork of the wine jug and handed it to Weichi Che.
"Drink quickly we need to leave immediately!"
Weichi Che obediently took a couple of sips, allowing Luo Liyan to dress him in new clothes and shoes. They hurriedly hid their belongings among the haystacks, and then, both crouching low, they slipped out of the woodshed.
They made their way to a secluded courtyard where Luo Liyan leaned against a corner of the wall and crouched down.
"Step on me to get over the wall and wait for me on the other side."
"I can do it myself." Weichi Che furrowed his brow and took a few steps back.
He couldn't protect Sister and now he couldn't use her as a stepping stool.
Luo Liyan noticed his hesitation even as they were making their escape and she lowered her voice in a scolding tone "One who accomplishes great things doesn't fret over trifles. Every second you stay here adds a second to our danger."
Weichi Che took a deep breath and berated himself for his foolishness. He didn't say a word, just stepped on Luo Liyan's shoulder to climb over the wall. Once he was safely seated on top of the wall Luo Liyan retreated a few steps then made a sudden dash using the wall to propel herself over as well.
Weichi Che watched her agile display of wall-climbing with a slight smile.
It seemed that Sister was a lively woman even in the women's quarters.
"Look, they're over there!"
Suddenly someone in the distance yelled and Luo Liyan turned her head to see a group of people holding lanterns running towards them. She quickly adjusted her pace and leaped down.
Perhaps due to nervousness she felt a sharp pain in her landing.
Damn!
Luo Liyan's heart clenched but she took a deep breath and acting as if nothing had happened, turned around and opened her arms to Weichi Che.
"Close your eyes and jump. Don't be afraid I'll catch you."
"Okay." Weichi Che nodded firmly and leaped into Luo Liyan's arms without hesitation.
Hand in hand they sprinted through the back alleys of the Yinhua Willow Street.
"Don't run! Damn it! When I catch you two, I'll break your legs!"
Behind them several ruffians brandishing torches shouted and pursued them.
Luo Liyan's ankle throbbed with increasing pain, but she tightly bit her lip looking down at Weichi Che who was struggling to keep up with her steps. A sense of despair slowly crept over her.
Both of them were at a disadvantage, one injured and the other too young and if they continued like this, they would surely be caught by those people.
