PWDLAW Chapter 4: Chu Heng

 Chapter 4: Chu Heng

"I understand." Ye Muyu nodded, her expression gentle.

Chu Ziluo felt a bit uneasy, but seeing that her mother wasn't angry she quickly retreated and went to her room to change her shoes.

Ye Muyu could tell that despite her young age this child was very adept at reading people's moods, indicating how much authority the original owner held in her heart.

Following the original owner's memories, Ye Muyu put on the clothes. The weather was a bit cool now, so she added an extra layer. However, just changing clothes made her feel somewhat breathless and sweaty on her forehead.

This body is quite weak.

Ye Muyu furrowed her brows lightly. If she didn't take care of herself, there was no guarantee when her life might be in danger. Even though she inherited this life she couldn't just watch herself perish, especially considering the discomfort of an ailing body.

With layers of clothing inside and out, and a soft cloth tied around her abdomen to prevent exposure to the cold, Ye Muyu felt more at ease.

As for the shoes, they were simple embroidered cloth shoes with a flower pattern, a bit dirty. She figured they would get wet again in the rain, so she didn't bother changing them.

As she stepped out of the room she saw a tall man holding two darkened bowls, coming out of the kitchen.

The man was around eight feet tall, roughly equivalent to over six feet in modern measurements. His pitch-black eyes were intimidating and there was no scholarly air about this man in his twenties.

Ye Muyu was puzzled. According to the original owner's memories, her husband wasn't this stern. But considering he only came back once every three months, changes were expected.

Glancing at the bowls in his hands, Ye Muyu spoke, "I'll do it."

Saying that, she walked over to take the bowls of porridge from him.

However, she couldn't take them. The man held the bowls tightly and his eyes were cold as he said, "No need."

Chu Heng bypassed her and placed the porridge on the table in the main hall.

Seeing him go back inside with the food, Ye Muyu couldn't help but feel a sense of doubt. This man seemed more serious than the husband in the original owner's memories.

However, considering he only came back once every three months, changes were to be expected.

Ye Muyu took a few glances at the food in the hall and didn't say much. She turned and entered the main hall.

"Both of you, sit down and have your meal." Ye Muyu said gently, looking at the two children.

Chu Ziluo felt apprehensive afraid of making mistakes that would upset her mother.

Chu Jin, on the other hand was afraid of his father. Although usually fearless, he dared not show any arrogance when Chu Heng was around. He was especially obedient during these times.

It was evident that Chu Heng, as a father had a significant influence on the two children.

Of course, in Chu Ziluo's eyes, she didn't want to bother with her mother but was afraid, while with her father, she wanted to be close but dared not.

She ended up becoming a pitiable one, caught in the middle with no one to care for her.

"Mother, when is Father leaving?" Chu Jin asked softly.

Ye Muyu glanced at him and replied with seemingly unrelated information "Your father brought new shoes and books for you and new clothes for Ziluo this time."

After saying this, she gave each child an egg. She placed pickled vegetables in front of herself and the meat and tofu strips were put in front of the two children. As for the plate of vegetables, it was clearly intended for Chu Heng.

Ye Muyu slowly drank the porridge. The slightly salty pickled vegetables were refreshing. She followed a healthy routine in the morning and preferred lighter foods.

There were four boiled eggs in total, indicating one for each person.
