The reborn of paranoid boss cannon fodder wife(6)
Chapter 6: Let Her Go
Instead of bowing her head as she did before when she saw him, there was a change in Bai Lu's demeanor.
"I don't need your care," Xiao Cheng coldly refused.
He was so heartless!
Bai Lu covered her mouth, suppressing a laugh. She was lamenting the missed opportunity for a free babysitter when she noticed a furtive figure lingering near her house, looking around suspiciously.
After a moment, the figure agilely flipped over the stone-wall enclosure and darted into the front yard.
Could it be a thief?
Bai Lu grabbed a thick stick, about the length of her forearm, from Wang Cuihua's house and nonchalantly walked towards her own home.
In her hurry to leave earlier, she had not locked the yard gate.
With a gentle push, the gate opened to reveal a one-inch-wide gap, offering a glimpse of the situation inside.
The main house's lights were still on, dimly illuminating the yard with a broken water jar and a green onion swaying in the wind. The empty yard seemed devoid of any human presence.
The light in her room flickered.
Approaching cautiously, but hearing no movement, Bai Lu pushed the door open with force and swept her stick behind it.
"Ah—"
A yelp escaped from Liu Guanggun, who had been hiding against the wall. He felt the pain as Bai Lu struck his back with the stick, but upon turning around, he saw Bai Lu, and his eyes lit up. Ignoring the pain, he immediately pulled out a hemp rope and lunged at her, trying to snatch her stick and forcefully tie her up.
However, Bai Lu was too cunning. She evaded him several times, delivering two solid blows to the back of his legs.
Having eaten two hearty meals that night, Bai Lu had regained her strength and showed no mercy in her strikes.
Liu Guanggun, in his forties, was lazy and unemployed, spending his days stealing and harassing married women. Thin as a skeleton, he resembled a black-skinned monkey and struggled to maintain his balance after taking a couple of hits.
Stumbling into the yard, he collided with the broken water jar used for growing ginger and fell to the ground.
Bai Lu was about to deliver another blow when a burlap bag suddenly covered her head from behind, and she was dragged backward.
Her wooden stick was also snatched and thrown far away.
"Bai Lu, oh, Bai Lu, let's see where you can run this time!" Liu Guanggun, getting up from the ground, said, "Normally, you don't respond, but I'll make sure you can't remain silent later! Haha, Ah Hui, carry her to my bed."
Ah Hui was Liu Guanggun's cousin.
Hearing his words, squinting his eyes, Ah Hui, with a face covered in pockmarks, revealed a lecherous and obscene smile.
Bai Lu, being held by two men, couldn't break free, so she had to come up with a different plan: "Let me go. Xiao Cheng has already come back. Do you believe he'll break your legs?"
"Who do you think you're fooling?"
Liu Guanggun freed one hand and grabbed Bai Lu's hand, grinning as he said, "Xiao Cheng went to the neighboring city to collect debts. Do you think he's back to save you? Dream on! I heard they've been cracking down on gambling in the neighboring city lately. Those gambling dens are all in trouble. Maybe Xiao Cheng is currently in some police station, getting thrown into a cell!"
"In three to five months, he won't be coming out. While you wait for Xiao Cheng to save you, he might be waiting for you to rescue him! Haha!" Ah Hui chimed in, joining the taunting.
As soon as the words were spoken, his buttocks were pricked three times by a sharp object, causing him to shudder in pain.
Liu Guanggun also felt a rake-like jab.
They turned around and saw Xiao Wei, a small-sized figure, holding a large three-pronged rake.
He vigorously stabbed them all over.
"Let her go!"
Xiao Wei had been watching the show, intending to boast to Bai Lu about how his big brother and Mrs. Wang had no connection after all. However, when he turned around, Bai Lu was nowhere to be seen. Instead, two figures were pulling a bag out from the house entrance.
"Brat, get lost!" Ah Hui snatched Xiao Wei's rake and kicked him hard.
He tumbled to the ground, rolling several times.
The next second, another figure was sent flying.
It was Liu Guanggun.
Both were thrown to the ground, twitching and convulsing. They covered their possibly broken ribs, almost passing out from the chest pain, and were then lifted by the collar, only to be mercilessly beaten.
When Ah Hui tumbled again, his face swollen and several blood-stained teeth falling out, he couldn't help but mutter, "Who... the hell... is this?"
So ruthless... they had no chance of fighting back!
Bai Lu, pulling Xiao Wei away from the scene, stood at her front gate, looking down at Liu Guanggun and Ah Hui on the ground. She loudly declared, "Next time you dare to come to my house to steal, this is what you'll get."
"So, it was a case of catching thieves. I thought it was something else, especially at this late hour..."
The onlookers, who initially assumed that Xiao Cheng was bullying people again, as he often did without any regard for time or place, were ready to criticize him. However, when Bai Lu explained that they were thieves, the neighbors' criticisms immediately shifted towards the two on the ground.
"Isn't that Liu Guanggun and his cousin?"
"I was wondering who would be so blind and audacious to dare to steal from Xiao Cheng's house. Turns out it's a habitual thief."
"Last month, Ah Hui stole money from the neighboring town and got chased by a crowd for three blocks!"
"At the beginning of the month, Liu Guanggun harassed Old Liang's daughter and hid in his house for a week, too scared to go out."
"Look at that over there. Is that a burlap bag? And a hemp rope! They were actually planning to steal using a burlap bag? Were they preparing to tie someone up? My goodness! Luckily, Xiao Cheng was at home. If it was only Bai Lu and Xiao Wei, it would have been much more dangerous!"
"I say, these incorrigible scoundrels deserve to be beaten to death. They got what they deserved!"
"Absolutely! Beat them to death!"
"It's not even a pity if they die!"
Seeing that Bai Lu and the others were fine, the neighbors, after scolding Liu Guanggun and Ah Hui, left one by one.
Tonight's incident was not trivial, with many twists and turns. It would surely become a topic of discussion over tea and meals the next day.
Liu Guanggun and Ah Hui, still lying in the pit, endured the scolding without uttering a word until everyone left. Slowly lifting their heads, they saw the terrifying demon closing the door. Only then did they dare to support each other and limp away.
Apart from the injuries on their bodies, Liu Guanggun had a broken right hand and leg, while Ah Hui had injuries on his left hand and leg.
Grinding their teeth for a long time, they finally managed to stand somewhat steadily. Limping and hobbling, they fled like fugitives.
