PWDLAW Chapter 5: Daughter Chu Ziluo
Chapter 5: Daughter Chu Ziluo
Chu Heng came in carrying leftover noodles from the previous night.
The noodles weren't white at all they had a slightly blackish tint. Ye Muyu knew that these were coarsely chopped buckwheat noodles, with a rough texture, unlike the refined buckwheat noodles from her past life. Clearly, these were the coarse grains commonly found in the countryside.
As Chu Heng entered and saw the arrangement of the dishes on the table, he noticed Ye Muyu pretending to only eat pickled vegetables. His expression turned slightly cold, "You're willing to eat the eggs, so why just put pickled vegetables in front of you?"
His words carried a clear hint of sarcasm.
Ye Muyu furrowed her brows lightly. Why was dealing with these ancient people so difficult?
Chu Ziluo and Chu Jin dared not touch the food, watching the expressions of the two adults carefully.
"I have long arms I can reach all the dishes." Ye Muyu replied casually, subtly implying that Chu Heng was overthinking.
Sure enough, Chu Heng's face darkened instantly. He remained silent, eating his noodles with his head down but the displeasure emanating from him was palpable.
Ye Muyu remained calm and helped the two children peel their eggs. She placed them in their bowls. With surprise in their eyes, she calmly said, "Go ahead and eat."
Seeing that it was indeed her mother who said this, Chu Ziluo obediently started eating.
Chu Jin, on the other hand glanced at Chu Heng and seeing that his father hadn't scolded him and there were delicious eggs, he wolfed down his food, nearly half an egg in one bite.
Chu Heng watched as his eldest daughter focused on her food, not daring to touch anything else. His son, however, was bold but lacked manners; rice kept falling off the table.
A wave of irritation surged within him.
"Ziluo, look up and pick some vegetables."
"Jin, pick up every grain of rice around your plate and eat it."
Chu Heng's voice was stern and Chu Jin turned pale, hurriedly picking up the rice grains that had fallen.
Chu Ziluo, with trembling hands, began picking vegetables.
Ye Muyu frowned slightly, finding Chu Heng too harsh. However, it was clear that this man didn't harbor any goodwill towards her. Speaking out rashly might disrupt the meal.
So, she remained silent, occasionally helping the two children with their vegetables.
Perhaps due to the presence of the 'stern father,' the meal was unusually fast. Chu Ziluo, rarely experiencing fullness, cautiously touched her stomach afraid of being discovered.
Chu Jin, on the other hand, looked terrified the whole time. Chu Heng stared at him, and his legs and hands trembled as he struggled to handle his chopsticks, continuously dropping and picking up rice.
After finishing the meal, Chu Heng put down his bowl and chopsticks.
Ye Muyu had finished her meal long ago.
Chu Heng said, "I'll go back to the old house in a while."
For a moment, no one responded.
Ye Muyu suddenly realized he was talking to her "Alright, go ahead. Will you be back for lunch?"
Chu Heng glanced deeply at her, said nothing and got up to leave.
When Chu Heng left the house, Chu Jin collapsed onto the chair as if exhausted. He patted his chest in fear "Mother, when will Father leave? He's really scary."
Chu Ziluo dared not speak. She got up to start cleaning the dishes.
"Put them down you don't have to do this work." Ye Muyu noticed her actions and spoke softly, allowing Chu Ziluo to stop. She got up herself, took the dishes and went into the kitchen.
There was still hot water in the pot. Ye Muyu washed the dishes with the hot water, placing them in the wooden bowl cabinet on the countertop.
After finishing the dishes, she came out.
It wasn't until she entered the main hall again that Chu Ziluo and Chu Jin reacted.
Chu Ziluo shivered as she stood in front of Ye Muyu "Mother, it rained last night and I woke up late this morning. I forgot to call you. It wasn't intentional..."
