PWDLAW Chapter 2: Identity
Chapter 2: Identity
Suddenly becoming the mother of two children, she couldn't treat them casually. At the very least, she had to take responsibility for their lives and raise them properly.
Having learned the memories of the original owner, Ye Muyu quieted down. Tilting her head, she glanced at the man beside her, presumably the husband named Chu Heng in the original owner's memories.
The original owner was twenty-two years old, younger than Ye Muyu in her previous life. The man beside her approximately twenty-four years old, had already passed the imperial examination and was preparing for the provincial examination in August of this year.
Ye Muyu knew that the imperial examinations in ancient times were difficult and costly. However, she was reassured that Chu Heng would only return for a three-day break.
Today was the second day and tomorrow afternoon he would leave, providing her with an opportunity to gradually adapt.
Suddenly becoming the wife of a stranger, although Ye Muyu remained calm, she was not entirely accustomed to it. Fortunately, Chu Heng went to study, giving her time to familiarize herself with life here. Accepting the fact that she was already married and had children would be easier.
Under the roaring heavy rain, Ye Muyu pondered for a while and fell asleep again.
At the first quarter of the hour of Chen.
In the courtyard, Chu Ziluo, dressed in coarse deep purple clothing, crouched by the water jar with a wooden basin in front of her. Due to the rain the water jar hadn't been covered last night and it now contained many leaves, mud, and spiderwebs from the roof.
As she removed the impurities from the water, she hesitated, glancing at the main house.
When will mother come out? If she doesn't come out soon, there won't be breakfast and father will get angry...
What if she finds out that mother doesn't usually do any work?
In the midst of the little girl's dilemma the door of the main house suddenly opened. Chu Heng, wearing a deep gray robe, calmly emerged. His angular and handsome face bore a pair of piercing eyes, making it intimidating to lock eyes with him.
"Father... F-Father?" Chu Ziluo's voice stuttered. She stood up abruptly, feeling constrained. In her haste, she blurted out, "Father, Mother will be up soon. She cooks, washes clothes, and takes care of us!"
"Is that so?" Chu Heng's expression was neutral, his voice not stern but he naturally exuded an air of authority.
Unable to withstand the pressure, Chu Ziluo's body trembled even more, almost crying.
Furrowing his brows slightly, Chu Heng softened his stern demeanor and said, "There's no need to speak well of your mother for me; I am well aware."
The rain had stopped by now but there was still accumulated water in the courtyard.
With those words, he walked towards the kitchen, descending from the eaves. His shoes got wet with rainwater, but he paid no attention to it.
He stopped in front of Chu Ziluo and looked at her feet. "Since your shoes are damaged, change them."
Chu Ziluo, upon hearing this, quickly looked down at her dirty, slightly torn shoes, withdrew her foot and said with a bit of trepidation, "Father, I understand. I'll go change them right away..."
Chu Heng looked at his daughter's pitiful appearance, always bullied but never dared to complain. He thought deeply, considering whether to let the child be raised by her mother at least, if not near Ye Muyu.
Recalling past events, he thought about how Ye Muyu's actions had led to his failure in the imperial examinations. To make a name for himself, he had to join the military and accumulate achievements. Eventually, he managed to rise to a high position.
Little did he know that bringing Ye Muyu to the capital would result in her constant mistakes, causing him trouble. For the sake of money, she dared to do anything, even oppress the common people. Rumors even spread about her wrongdoing and damaging the family's reputation.
Secretly ruining their reputation, being foolish enough to be manipulated at every turn, she implicated the entire family.
