Chapter 109: The Peasant Girl’s Splendid Manor
Chapter 109: Plotting for Self-Rescue (Part 2)
"Miss Liu, you've been 'feverish' for almost three days now. When you pretend to have smallpox later, just lie down and cry out as if you're in pain. If you're not confident, you can practice a few cries now so I can hear."
Mo Yan looked at the somewhat nervous Liu Tinglan and comforted her in a low voice, urging her to relax.
Liu Tinglan nodded and tried a few cries, which sounded quite convincing and would likely fool the kidnappers.
Mo Yan nodded in approval and then cautioned the other sixteen girls, "Our chance of escaping depends on this. The kidnappers are very cunning, so everyone needs to be careful and not reveal anything suspicious."
All sixteen girls nodded in unison. Over the past few days, they had come to trust Mo Yan deeply.
Mo Yan smiled and made a gesture of encouragement to them before ascending the steps and squatting next to the iron door, keeping an eye on the outside.
Estimating that it was mealtime, when Skinny would bring their food, Mo Yan signaled to the people below to be prepared.
Before long, she heard footsteps approaching, and she clenched her fist against her thigh, causing tears to flow down her cheeks.
"Quick, open the door! Someone has smallpox and is dying! Help! Help!"
Mo Yan pounded on the iron door, crying out hoarsely.
Hearing the cries from the dungeon, Skinny was startled. When he approached and heard "smallpox," he dropped the food bucket in fright.
Smallpox was a deadly disease!
"Who has smallpox? Who has smallpox? Speak up!"
Skinny guy grabbed Mo Yan's shoulder through the iron door, causing her intense pain, and her tears flowed even more profusely.
"Sob... it's Tinglan, who had a fever two days ago! Sob... she has developed smallpox! Please open the door and let me out! Sob... someone has already been infected, and I don't want to die! Open the door, please!"
Seeing Mo Yan crying so bitterly, Skinny, believing her, looked into the dungeon and saw several girls crying and crawling up the steps, crying and pleading to be let out.
On the ground, one girl lay moaning, while three others leaned against the wall, complaining of heat.
Cold sweat broke out on Skinny guy's forehead as he pushed Mo Yan away and ran off, fearing he might be infected too.
Seeing Skinny guy running away as if his life depended on it, Mo Yan breathed a sigh of relief but continued to cry out even louder, knowing that they would likely send someone to check on them soon.
Sure enough, not long after, a commotion of footsteps approached, and Fat boss and the others hurried over, stopping several yards away, afraid to get any closer.
"Skinny, are you sure it's smallpox?" Fat boss demanded, listening to the wailing from the dungeon.
Sweating profusely, Skinny guy nodded and said with a pale face, "Boss, I wouldn't dare lie to you about this. If you don't believe me, you can go and see for yourself."
With this assurance, Fat boss's face turned even darker, and the others dared not speak.
The atmosphere grew heavy, and the cries from the dungeon became louder and clearer.
After a while, Fat boss stared intently at Skinny. "Shou, how have I treated you all these years?"
Skinny guy's face turned even paler, realizing he was in trouble. But knowing Fat boss's methods, he could only grit his teeth and say, "Boss, you've been like a father to me."
A hint of satisfaction flashed in Fat boss's eyes as he finally said, "When it gets dark, take care of the girl with smallpox and those three with fever. Then move the rest to another room. We'll keep as many as we can."
After hearing this, Skinny guy's complexion changed completely, and a deep sense of determination flashed in his lowered eyes...
