Unconsciously, she had experienced bouts of insomnia even carrying over from her past life.

Early the next morning.

The sky was just bright.

Smoke rose from scattered courtyards in the village and early-rising roosters began to crow.

As usual, Hu Shi woke up early, shaking awake the sleeping Zhang Shu, instructing him to feed the family's mules and horses. She, on the other hand carried a wooden bucket to milk the cows.

After milking, she took the bucket of milk to the kitchen, fetched a clean ceramic pot and boiled the milk on the stove.

They had steamed buns with pickled beans and cured meat prepared from the day before for breakfast.

When Ye Muyu woke up, Chu Heng's figure was already gone from her side.

She wasn't surprised at all. After dressing, she walked out.

Sure enough, she saw Chu Heng returning from outside the yard, holding a wooden bucket.

"What did you bring back?" Ye Muyu walked over, asking somewhat surprised.

Only when she got closer did she see what Chu Heng was carrying in the bucket: a yellow eel, some crabs, and a fish.

"Where did you get these?" Ye Muyu reached out to touch the back of a crab but unexpectedly, the quiet crab instantly struggled and nearly caught her hand.

Chu Heng was also startled by her action and scolded her "Ah Yu, you're an adult now. You can't casually touch them. Use a wooden stick, you know?"

Ye Muyu glared at him, was he treating her like a child?

"I know. Just take them to the well over there. We can make something delicious for lunch." Ye Muyu ignored his attempts at education and spoke first.

Chu Heng's words were stuck in his throat. Seeing her displeased expression, he felt somewhat helpless. But in the end, he didn't say anything more. If Ah Yu rarely showed this side of her, he wasn't going to stop her.

"Madam, these crabs aren't tasty. But it's rare that they've grown this big." Hu Shi heard the commotion and came out of the kitchen. Seeing the crabs in the wooden bucket, she was a bit surprised, wondering why Chu Heng brought them back.

In the countryside, unless extremely hungry, people didn't eat crabs. Here, they only had river crabs, which weren't big and had little meat. Cooking them also consumed a lot of oil.

Ye Muyu said "Delicious or not, we'll try a new recipe."

Seeing the madam interested and considering that the master usually respected the madam's decisions, Hu Shi refrained from expressing further doubts.

Instead, she called Zhang Shu over to separate the crabs from the eels and the less meaty fish.

"Will you come back for lunch?" Ye Muyu, remembering their conversation from the night before, looked up at Chu Heng.

Chu Heng nodded. "I'll come back early for lunch. As for Doctor Qi, I'll invite him over to examine you when I return."

Hearing that a doctor would be called to examine Ye Muyu, Hu Shi and Zhang Shu couldn't help but feel worried.

They were valued by the Chu family and it was only through the family's favor that they could enjoy such a good life. Naturally, they didn't want anything to happen to her.

Ye Muyu understood their concerns. Hearing Chu Heng's words, she knew he was also wary of Qisang.

She nodded. "Okay, I'll prepare these crabs for lunch."

"Sure." Chu Heng washed his hands, returned to the east wing to get dressed and then went to bathe.

On this side, Hu Shi entered the kitchen, poured the boiled milk into separate cups, and asked, "Madam, are you feeling okay?" Hu Shi hesitated for a long time, finally asked the question she had in her mind. Since the master wasn't around and the madam was usually easy to talk to, she gathered the courage to ask.
