Zhang Shu drove the mule cart, making a stop at Xie Family's pastry shop. After buying a few pastries, he realized they were significantly more expensive than usual.

They didn't wander around after leaving the shop but instead sat on the mule cart heading towards the village.

On the mule cart, Chu Ziluo opened the pastry box, marveling at the beautifully crafted pastries. Even the aroma alone was enticing and she hesitated to take a bite.

"Mother, are these new styles?" Chu Ziluo asked.

"Yes, give them a try. Without an oven at home, we can't achieve the same level of fragrance." Ye Muyu replied.

Chu Ziluo eagerly grabbed a pastry from the box. Each piece cost fifty coins, quite expensive but people were still buying them.

Business was thriving.

Wealthy families bought large quantities at once without batting an eye, spending several taels of silver each time.

Despite the high costs, the profit margin was considerable. The wooden forks were ordered in bulk from a carpenter, costing almost nothing in wood but the craftsmanship was eye-catching.

"Wow, Mother, these are delicious! You should try them." Chu Ziluo exclaimed after taking a bite, her mouth filled with sweet cream and soft cake layers, reminiscent of a sandwich cookie that children loved.

"Mother, isn't it tasty?" Chu Ziluo beamed with joy, having only taken a few bites as she planned to save the rest for her brother, Chu Jin.

"My little brother will definitely love them. When we return later, he'll be thrilled." Chu Ziluo confidently asserted.

"Do you find it heart-wrenching to share so much with your brother?" Ye Muyu asked with a smile.

"No, not at all. Little Jin is my brother and I cherish him. Besides, Mother won't you accompany us to the academy later? We can check if he's paying attention in class." Although Chu Ziluo spoke of it this way, she secretly planned to surprise her brother.

"That sounds like a good idea." Ye Muyu agreed.

Chu Ziluo was delighted, holding onto the pastries tightly, afraid they might get damaged.

As they approached the village, they parked the mule cart quietly near the village school.

Ye Muyu and Chu Ziluo got off the cart, with Chu Ziluo still holding the pastries.

Suddenly, a person emerged from the school gate and headed straight towards them.

Things happened too quickly.

Ye Muyu didn't have time to pull her daughter away.

Standing beside Chu Ziluo, Nenya quickly reached out to help her but due to the force of the collision, both girls ended up sitting on the ground.

Nenya was pinned beneath Chu Ziluo and both let out cries of surprise.

"Oh my!"

"Miss, are you okay?"

"Oh, I'm sorry." The one who bumped into them was a young man, carrying a medical kit. Needle packets, prescriptions, and medicine bottles were scattered around.

A pleasant voice made Ye Muyu unconsciously take another look at the young man.

"Uncle Zhang, help them up." Ye Muyu said, blocked by the young man and unable to move forward. She had to rely on Zhang Shu to assist.

Zhang Shu had just finished fixing the mule cart and this happened in a blink of an eye. He hurried over, helping Nenya up first and then Chu Ziluo.

"My pastries!" Chu Ziluo looked at the flattened pastries in front of her and tears welled up in her eyes. The anticipation she had felt just moments ago turned into deep sadness. Her mood could be easily guessed without looking at her.

Ye Muyu's expression also darkened. Her pampered daughter had been mistreated by an outsider.

If it were an accident, it would have been tolerable.

However, the person who bumped into them showed no remorse and instead stared at Ye Muyu, displaying a disrespectful attitude.
