Chapter 116: Is Xiao Fu Bao Disliked? The Whole City Loves Me With Their Lives

**Chapter 116: Are You Craving Fish?**

Suisui didn’t understand why her brothers were looking at her with such strange expressions.

Feeling scared, she shrank her head and fell silent.

Her brothers were bewildered: Was that it? No praise for them? They were still waiting!

Why did their sister favor Feng Xuanrui so much?

With Suisui quiet, she obediently finished her egg custard. Qi Wangfei, watching from the side, couldn’t help but smile. “Don’t scare your sister.”

Though the brothers were unhappy, they had no choice but to accept it. After all, Feng Xuanrui had known her longer. Shouldn’t they have run alongside him back then?

The happiest of them all was probably Feng Xuanrui. After all, Suisui had praised him alone! He was practically dancing with joy!

Feng Xuanrui felt he could eat three more bowls of rice, but having just eaten, he didn’t want to push his stomach. Instead, he sat there asking Suisui if she wanted to try this or that.

“The egg dumplings taste great; do you want to have a bite?”

“The filling is minced meat; the texture is really good.”

“They’re delicious, and the hibiscus soup is good too.”

After finishing one bowl of egg custard, Suisui was almost full. However, overwhelmed by her brother's enthusiasm, she tried an egg dumpling and sipped some soup.

The egg dumpling had a delicious filling that, combined with the soft, fragrant egg, was irresistible.

Suisui nodded continuously, her eyes sparkling as she smiled at Feng Xuanrui. “Brother, it’s so tasty!”

The other brothers: …

Their anxiety finally eased.

Having napped through lunch, Suisui was now wide awake. However, Feng Xuanrui and the others had classes in the afternoon and needed some rest, or they wouldn’t be able to keep up.

Qi Wangfei quickly signaled for them to go sleep while she played with Suisui.

Though the boys were reluctant, the thought of their teacher, Teacher Shen, frowning and scolding them was enough to send them off to rest.

As the room fell silent, Qi Wangfei felt a bit unaccustomed. She hadn’t liked the noise before; the children used to give her a headache. Now, she had grown used to it, and the sudden quiet felt strange.

Realizing her own thoughts, Qi Wangfei smiled helplessly and took Suisui’s hand for a walk.

The little girl hadn’t eaten much, but after finishing her meal, it was better to stroll around rather than sit still.

They didn’t walk far, just to the nearest pond.

The water wasn’t warm enough for the flowers to bloom yet, but they could see the fish swimming in the clear water.

The fish were mostly red, with a few patterned ones and two black ones that were hard to spot.

Qi Wangfei wasn’t particularly fond of fish; they were just there because the prince had arranged for them to be kept to attract visitors.

But she enjoyed watching them as a pastime.

Suisui had never seen such fish before.

She only knew about the kind of fish that could be eaten in the pond. She had never eaten any, since fish only appeared during the summer when the river was full.

With so many people in the village, everyone rushed to catch fish; whoever managed to get one got to keep it.

Sometimes her uncle would catch a few, but more often, they had to buy them.

The expensive fish they bought were never given to Suisui, not even the bones.

The fish bones were fed to the chickens, which supposedly produced better eggs.

So, every time the chickens were fed, her aunt would watch Suisui closely, worried that she might sneak a fish bone.

Suisui had felt tempted but was scared of being punished.

Each time, she swallowed her drool and obediently fed the chickens, only leaving when they were finished.

She had occasionally heard others say that fish had a muddy, fishy taste and weren’t really good.

Suisui didn’t understand how a muddy taste could be bad.

No matter how bad it was, wasn’t it better than wild grass?

Now, living with her brothers and mother, Suisui’s quality of life had improved significantly.

But seeing the fish still made her unable to control her desire, and perhaps recalling her past life made her unconsciously swallow hard.

Qi Wangfei, watching from the side, gently stroked the little girl’s back. “Are you craving fish, Suisui? These pond fish aren’t good; how about I have the kitchen prepare fish porridge instead? Would you like meatballs?”

Haitang, nearby, nodded. “Fish noodles would be good too, though they take some effort. There’s still time to make them.”

Suisui had drunk fish porridge on the road and had eaten meatballs before. But fish noodles? What were they?

She looked curiously at Haitang, her innocent expression evident on her little face.

Seeing her adorableness, Haitang couldn’t help but want to pat her head. “It’s when fish meat is minced, mixed with flour, and kneaded; it cooks up very deliciously.”

Gulp.

Haitang’s description turned food into something tangible for Suisui.

She felt unable to control her drool and swallowed loudly.

Her blank expression as she swallowed was amusing to see.

Qi Wangfei smiled, stroking her head. “If you like it, I’ll ask the kitchen to prepare it early so it’s ready on time.”

Haitang nodded in agreement and quickly went to notify the kitchen.

In that moment, Suisui felt happiness come too quickly and too unreal.

She felt as if she were in a dream, no longer the poor girl who couldn’t even eat fish bones.

Now, she even had the right to choose what to eat or not to eat.

With a dazed look on her face, Qi Wangfei understood what Suisui was thinking.

Children’s thoughts are usually written all over their faces, easy to guess.

At that moment, Qi Wangfei wished she could master martial arts, grab a stick, and march to Qingzhou to settle the score with that Chen family!

Damn you, Chen Dalang and your family! Just wait!

As Qi Wangfei gritted her teeth, Aunt Qiu came from the front courtyard, holding an exquisite invitation.

Seeing the princess’s gaze, Aunt Qiu quickly explained, “It’s an invitation from the Grand Princess’s residence. They want to visit tomorrow.”

Since it wasn’t a festival, why the sudden visit?

Aunt Qiu understood her master’s confusion and quickly elaborated. “The explosion yesterday came from the Grand Princess’s villa. Apparently, something there was improperly stored, causing an explosion that damaged much of the villa and fields.”

Aunt Qiu was still fearful discussing this. “Fortunately, they had just planted in the fields a few days ago, so there was nothing to lose. The manager and workers had gone to the back mountain to tend to the orchard, which helped them avoid disaster. Although the villa and fields were severely damaged, no one was hurt.”

At this point, Aunt Qiu emphasized, “It’s fortunate that the Grand Princess was here at our estate at the time.”
