Chapter 158: Pleading - Rebirth of the Noble Daughter

 Chapter 158: Pleading

If he could receive personal guidance from their grandfather, she believed that his hatred would be redirected to the right path. When that happened, his protective nature would ensure the third branch had no room to complain.

"Misfortune and fortune are interdependent. If Third Uncle knew about today, would he still have abandoned Qiao Shanwei?" Feng Jinlin was curious. What kind of circumstances would make a father disown his own child?

Feng Jinyao sneered, "Third Uncle values his career and reputation above all. Abandoning his child must have been because the child was an obstacle to his ambitions. He doesn't even care much about Bai Sihan; otherwise, she wouldn't have been raised to be so unremarkable by Madam Shen."

Her words made sense. The siblings continued their conversation and soon arrived at the Feng residence.

Entering Ning’an Courtyard, they encountered Feng Yunhe, who was beaming with joy.

It was still cold as it was not yet the end of January. Feng Yunhe, having just recovered from a severe illness, shouldn't be standing here.

Feng Jinlin walked over and lightly scolded, "You haven't fully recovered yet. Why are you running around? If you need us, just send someone."

"Don't worry, Second Uncle. Look, I'm fully recovered now. If you don't believe me, believe Doctor Zhang." He rolled up his sleeve, showing that the once severe wounds had healed into pinkish scars. If one didn't look closely, they wouldn't believe he had suffered from such a dangerous illness.

From the onset of the disease to his recovery, less than a month had passed. He looked almost as healthy as he had before the New Year. It was hard to believe if one hadn't seen it with their own eyes.

His gratitude towards Doctor Zhang was immense. "Once you are fully recovered, you must personally thank Doctor Zhang. Without him, you might not have survived."

"Don't worry, Second Uncle. I know."

Feng Jinyao walked over with a smile and tightened his cloak. "Let's go inside and talk."

"Thank you, Aunt."

The three entered the inner room, where warmth greeted them. Yunxu helped them remove their cloaks and handed them warm towels to wipe their hands. Xiuqiu served hot tea and snacks, and Lamei placed a soft cushion on Feng Yunhe's chair to prevent his wounds from hurting.

Such thoughtful service impressed Huanhuan, who had come with Feng Yunhe.

"They say the Third Miss's courtyard is well-managed, and the maids are all capable. Seeing it today, I believe it. I thought I took good care of the young master, but it seems I still have much to learn."

Huanhuan was beautiful and lively. Since she started taking care of Feng Yunhe, his mature demeanor had softened, making both Feng Jinlin and Feng Jinyao fond of her.

"You're too modest. I've heard my sister-in-law praise you many times, saying you take excellent care of Yunhe!" Feng Jinyao responded with a smile.

Since the matter with Concubine Lin had been settled, she hadn't had the chance to meet Huanhuan. Initially, she wanted Huanhuan to help keep an eye on Fu Yi, but her brother had assigned her to take care of Yunhe. This worked out well, as Hanjing, who had been arranged to monitor Huanhuan, would do so discreetly without alarming anyone.

"Yunhe, what brings you here?"

"I came to find Second Uncle, but I heard you both went out, so I came here hoping to find you."

"What do you need me for?" Feng Jinlin asked curiously.

"In a few days, Second Uncle will be going to the academy, right? I want to go with you."

"Don't be ridiculous. Your body can't handle the journey and the academy is on a mountain where it's even colder. What if you fall ill again?"

Feng Jinlin strongly opposed the idea, and Feng Jinyao also felt it was inappropriate. "Yunhe, there's no rush. Wait until spring. Your illness is known to Fourth Uncle, and he won't make things difficult for you."

Feng Yunhe frowned. He had been resting at home for over half a month, and while his body had recovered, he felt his studies were falling behind those of his peers at the academy. Although young, he was determined and unwilling to be left behind.

"I'm really fine now. If you don't believe me, look, I can even lift this chair."

He demonstrated by lifting the solid wood chair, surprising both Feng Jinlin and Feng Jinyao.

"I remember you weren't this strong before."

Feng Jinlin was curious. Feng Yunhe and his brother both had literary talent, but they were not particularly strong. How did he become stronger after being sick?

Seeing their surprised expressions, Feng Yunhe was pleased. He pointed to Huanhuan and said, "Sister Huanhuan taught me. She knows martial arts and has been teaching me horse stance."

He immediately demonstrated, showing a standard, though slightly unsteady, horse stance.

"You know martial arts?" Feng Jinlin asked, surprised.

Huanhuan nodded. "I learned from my brother's master when I was young, but I neglected it for a while. Recently, while recovering, I started practicing again. The young master saw and insisted on learning too, which has helped his recovery."

Feng Jinlin tested his muscles and raised an eyebrow at Feng Jinyao. "What medicine did Doctor Zhang give him? It's amazing. He's healthier than before."

Feng Jinyao was also surprised. Could Uncle Shou's medicine not only cure illness but also strengthen the body?

Feng Yunhe, feeling validated, clung to his uncle's sleeve. "Second Uncle, I'm really fine now. Please let me go with you in a few days."

Feng Jinlin, unable to resist, asked, "Have you told your parents?"

"I talked to Father. He said a man should be able to endure hardship to achieve great things."

He smiled wryly, knowing his brother would say such a thing.

"Mother is worried about me, but if you and Father agree, she won't object much."

Feng Jinlin was at a loss. The boy had planned everything, even getting his brother's approval. What could he say?

"You!"

He ruffled Feng Yunhe's hair. With such a diligent heir, should he be pleased or worried?

"Fine, as you wish. Just make sure to bring plenty of winter clothes. The mountain cold is no joke."

"Don't worry, Second Uncle. Everything is ready."

Feng Jinlin glanced at Feng Jinyao, as if to say, "This nephew of ours is quite the strategist."
