Chapter 127: Is Xiao Fu Bao Disliked? The Whole City Loves Me With Their Lives

Chapter 127: Suisui Has a Hat Now

After playing with her brothers for a while, Suisui had to return to the back courtyard to sleep with her mother. Although her aunt wanted to help put the child to bed, Qi Wangfei was in a particularly maternal mood and couldn’t bear to let Suisui go.

So, she would do it herself!

Qi Wangfei felt quite skilled at this process.

Suisui had played with charcoal today and was a bit dirty, so she needed a bath before bed.

After a fragrant wash and dressed in clean nightwear, Suisui was cradled back to bed by Qi Wangfei.

Her mother's embrace was warm and comforting.

Suisui nestled in, happily inhaling her mother’s scent.

Qi Wangfei adored this affection, gently patting the little girl as she settled her into bed.

Suisui felt sleepy but still wanted to cuddle close.

Seeing this, Qi Wangfei was both touched and amused. She lifted her hand to stroke Suisui’s head, saying, “Let’s sleep for now. Tomorrow, we can play some more. Soon, the fruit will ripen at the farm. Our cherries are especially delicious; would you like to have some first?”

Upon hearing this, Suisui nodded obediently and asked softly, “Does Mother like to eat them?”

Qi Wangfei liked seasonal fruits, and she nodded in response.

Suisui, excited, snuggled deeper into her blanket, her eyes crinkling as she said, “Then I’ll eat them with you!”

Qi Wangfei continued to smile, gently patting the covers.

With her mother’s soothing touches, Suisui gradually drifted off to sleep.

Once Suisui was asleep, Qi Wangfei felt relieved enough to let her aunt turn off the lamp.

After sitting quietly for a while, and seeing Suisui was not waking up, she finally got up to leave.

With Suisui's needs handled by her aunt, Qi Wangfei could focus on her own troubles—her anger at Chen Dalao’s family kept her awake.

Once outside, she calmed down and called for Aunt Qiu.

Suisui had wanted to stay up longer to hear new stories. She had learned how to use charcoal and was eager to learn new skills to show her mother!

However, the energy of a child is limited. After a long day, she was truly tired.

As Qi Wangfei gently patted her blanket, Suisui’s eyelids grew heavy, making it impossible to stay awake.

The system watched this scene, feeling a sense of warmth and satisfaction.

“Good night, Suisui,” it said softly, filled with tenderness.

The journey to Qingzhou was long, and many things were complicated to handle.

Qi Wangfei had called Aunt Qiu to discuss how to manage the situation with Chen Dalao’s family, especially since Xu Yueyao was still in the capital. It wouldn’t do to eliminate Chen Dalao’s family completely, as that would only give Xu Yueyao more power and freedom.

They needed to keep some fear hanging over her.

So, Chen Dalao’s family still had to be kept alive.

After careful thought, Aunt Qiu spoke slowly, “I remember the prince mentioned there’s a coal mine in Qingzhou?”

Qi Wangfei recalled that the prince had indeed mentioned this. The emperor had intended to start mining there, but plans had stalled due to other matters.

If coal mining was to commence, it would require laborers, meaning some would have to be diverted there for the year’s corvée.

Mining was not a safe or pleasant job; it was dirty, exhausting, and dangerous.

Upon hearing Aunt Qiu's suggestion, Qi Wangfei understood her meaning.

However, as a woman, it was inappropriate for her to broach such a topic; she would need the prince to handle it.

The thought of the prince made her head ache.

She wondered if he had achieved his goal of having children yet. News of pregnancy would take over a month to confirm.

The prince had said he’d return in three or four days, and it was about that time now, wasn’t it?

Uncertain, she thought about asking Prince Qing for help, but he had seemed busy and rushed that day, likely with official duties.

Qi Wangfei pondered the situation, feeling increasingly troubled.

If it weren’t for having to receive the grand princess at the manor tomorrow, she would have sought her brother's help.

If all else failed, she could turn to her aunt.

She was certain someone could lend assistance.

In fact, she felt that these people were more reliable than her own husband.

But there was no need to rush; she would see what tomorrow brought.

That night, Qi Wangfei didn’t sleep well.

The next morning, she made sure to have Haitang do her makeup carefully, wanting to hide her fatigue.

Suisui woke up early, and after her aunt helped her get dressed, she put on a newly sewn little square hat. “Try it on, and if you don’t like it, I can make you a different style,” her aunt said.

The hat was crafted skillfully, made of two pieces of fabric in different patterns and colors, creating a lively, adventurous look.

To ensure it fit well, her aunt added two ties to secure it under her chin.

To enhance its beauty, her aunt sewed two decorative tassels on the sides, embellished with delicate knots and small pearls.

The main color of the hat was lilac, with lovely floral embroidery that looked fresh and vibrant.

Even though spring wasn’t chilly, the little hat provided Suisui with a sense of security, especially since she had never worn such a beautiful one before.

Excited, she moved her head and turned her eyes to see.

Her aunt adjusted the hat and carefully tied the straps, checking everything was in place. “Looks good! My skills haven’t dulled; I’ll make you more styles in the future.”

Hearing her aunt’s praise, Suisui happily nodded her head. “It’s pretty, thank you, Auntie!”

Seeing the little girl’s bright expression, her aunt grinned widely. “No need to thank me, Suisui. Let’s go look in the mirror.”

Aunt Qiu took Suisui’s hand to the mirror.

The copper mirror reflected the playful, adorable little hat beautifully.

Suisui joyfully shook her head, making the tassels dance alongside her.

Aunt Qiu smiled with satisfaction, thinking about making Suisui another style later.

When Qi Wangfei finished getting ready and saw Suisui in the cute little hat, swaying her head, it brought a smile to her face.

The playful hat was a bold attempt, but the result was quite lovely.

Qi Wangfei liked it very much and thought, “We should add two gemstones at the front; we have plenty.”

She had supplemented Suisui’s private treasury with lots of silver and jewelry, including various raw stones.

Aunt Qiu nodded in agreement, “I’ll add them next time I sew.”

Though the hat had few embellishments, the craftsmanship was meticulous, showing clear effort.

Seeing this made Qi Wangfei feel satisfied and trust Aunt Qiu even more.

Noticing Suisui still admiring herself in the mirror, Qi Wangfei couldn’t help but smile. “Suisui, let’s go have breakfast first, and we can look in the mirror again afterward, okay?”
