Chapter 117: Is Xiao Fu Bao Disliked? The Whole City Loves Me With Their Lives

**Chapter 117: Don't Be Afraid**

After listening to Aunt Qiu's explanation, Qi Wangfei froze, her face paling considerably.

She opened her mouth, wanting to ask something, but no words came out.

Qi Wangfei thought about how yesterday, Suisui found Yingzhi adorable and wanted to admire the pretty sister a little longer, which is why she had invited the Grand Princess and her entourage to stay at the manor. If it hadn't been for Suisui's presence, she wouldn't have made such an invitation, as the conditions at the manor weren't very good for hosting guests. Moreover, the Grand Princess was quite particular; if it hadn't been for accommodating the child, she wouldn't have accepted the invitation either.

Yesterday, if any link in the chain had gone wrong, who knows, perhaps among the people caught in the explosion would have been the Grand Princess and her party...

Thinking of this possibility, Qi Wangfei's face turned even whiter.

Aunt Qiu was startled and quickly stepped forward to gently rub her back, speaking in a soothing voice, “Don't be alarmed, my lady. It's all right now; everyone is safe. It's just that the side villa needs to be rebuilt, and the newly planted fields are ruined.”

For people of their status, these matters were not particularly troublesome. As long as the people were fine, everything else could be dealt with.

Aunt Qiu felt relieved but sensed a subtle shift in Qi Wangfei's mood.

She glanced at Suisui, who was looking puzzled at the two of them, clearly not understanding their conversation. However, it was this little girl who had helped the Grand Princess and her party avoid danger yesterday.

Suisui...

This was not the first time.

If Suisui belonged to someone else, Qi Wangfei might think of her as a lucky star, envied by many. But since the child was her own, Qi Wangfei only felt worry and heartache.

Heaven had bestowed such deep blessings on this child—could she really bear it?

Everything has its cause and effect.

Why was Suisui so fortunate in these matters? What had she traded for it?

The hardships she endured before—were they not punishments?

Some thoughts lead her further into a spiral of anxiety.

The more she thought, the more uncontrollable her cold sweat became.

Aunt Qiu was genuinely frightened.

She thought to herself that Qi Wangfei wasn't usually timid; why was she so shaken by this news? Moreover, even if they hadn't invited the Grand Princess, surely her party would have been unharmed?

Aunt Qiu didn't understand but continued to gently comfort her.

Qi Wangfei realized she had let fear overwhelm her and was spiraling into her own thoughts.

But her mind wasn't under her control! What could she do?

Just as she felt helpless, a small but gentle hand touched her chest.

When Qi Wangfei snapped back to reality and looked down, she met Suisui's concerned eyes.

The little girl didn't understand why her mother was suddenly unwell. Not knowing how to help, she mimicked Aunt Qiu and began to gently rub her mother's chest to soothe her.

Seeing this, Qi Wangfei felt both touched and terrified.

Tears flowed uncontrollably down her face, and she gently pulled Suisui into her embrace, letting her tears fall onto the little girl’s head.

As the tears flowed, they felt a bit itchy, but Suisui tried hard to stay still, content to be close to her mother.

If this made her mother feel better, she would stay like this forever.

She loved her mother’s embrace and the scent of her, warm and fragrant.

This was a warmth and love she had never experienced before.

She cherished it deeply.

Qi Wangfei quietly wept while holding her little girl.

Aunt Qiu, watching from the side, became even more confused but didn’t press for details.

After a while, Qi Wangfei gradually managed to calm her emotions. She gestured for Aunt Qiu to stop rubbing her back and wiped her tears gently.

Once she composed herself, she continued to hold Suisui close.

Suisui obediently let her mother move her, unable to hear the faint sounds of her mother's quiet sobs. The little girl lifted her head with concern, her voice tinged with unease: “Is Mother feeling better?”

Qi Wangfei managed a weak smile, saying, “Mother had a moment of weakness that scared you, but it's nothing. I just thought of some things and felt a bit overwhelmed. It’s all right, dear.”

As she spoke, she gently pressed the little girl against her.

Reassured by her mother’s words, Suisui snuggled closer.

After a brief moment of comfort for the little girl, Qi Wangfei signaled to Aunt Qiu, “Make sure the tea and snacks for tomorrow are prepared well, and send someone to check the weather for the day after. If it’s nice, we’ll go to Lanruo Temple to offer incense.”

She emphasized, “We’ll leave at the start of the tiger hour.”

It wasn’t the first day of the month or a festival, so why suddenly go offer incense?

Aunt Qiu was puzzled, but given the circumstances, a visit to pray for blessings seemed fitting and could indeed bring some peace of mind.

Aunt Qiu nodded and stepped away to make arrangements.

Since this wasn’t the Grand Princess's first visit to the manor, Aunt Qiu was familiar with all the necessary details.

After Aunt Qiu left, Qi Wangfei continued to hold Suisui tightly.

She thought some things were beyond her control; she could only pray more and worship at the Buddha’s feet. If Suisui was this lucky, she must have traded something for it.

So let those disasters come for her instead!

She might not have many talents, but she could certainly endure hardship!

Suisui had no idea of her mother's inner turmoil.

Her little head rested on her mother’s shoulder, where she caught sight of the fish in the nearby pond.

A large red goldfish leaped out of the water.

At that moment, no one was feeding the fish, yet it jumped into the air.

The sight was quite beautiful.

Though it flashed by quickly, Suisui wanted her mother to see: “Mother, the fish jumped up!”

Qi Wangfei instinctively turned her head at the sound.

She caught only a glimpse of the fish’s vibrant red tail in mid-air.

The fish landed back in the pond.

Though she missed that moment, the stunning flash of the fish's tail was still captivating, and Qi Wangfei found the view quite rare.

This feeling of relaxation and joy dispelled the fear and helplessness deep inside her.

She thought about the future—who could predict it?

When trouble comes, one can face it; when water comes, one can dam it.

Panicking now would only do harm.

After self-soothing, Qi Wangfei gradually calmed her emotions.

She breathed a sigh of relief and smiled gently: “Yes, the scene of the goldfish jumping is indeed beautiful.”

Suisui felt a little regretful, muttering softly, “But Mother didn’t see it all.”

Qi Wangfei didn’t feel it was a pity.

Just as she was about to explain, she saw Suisui excitedly raise her hand: “Hey hey hey, Mother, look!”

A bright red koi suddenly surged from the water, as if it wanted to break through the clouds.

Yet mid-air, it abruptly curved, forming an arch with its body.

Then, the beautiful koi quickly dove back into the water, creating a ripple.

The water shimmered for a while before settling back into calmness.

As if that astonishing moment had never happened.

Fish passed, water stirred.

Fish swam, water stilled.

In that instant, Qi Wangfei seemed to gain a deeper understanding.

She thought panicking ahead of time was futile and could easily frighten the child.

Her Suisui was undoubtedly a child most cherished and favored by heaven.

So, there’s no need to be afraid.
