Chapter 47: I Remember You!
Chapter 47: I Remember You!
Though only one change occurred, it felt vastly different.
At this moment, Chang Suining could understand better his earlier act of not shaving.
She instinctively glanced at his clean face, while his gaze fell upon her arm.
To be precise, it was the arm held by Yuanxiang—
Yuanxiang's eagerness for knowledge had caused him to pull her aside to talk, and he momentarily forgot to let go.
Cui Jing frowned: “Cui Yuanxiang—”
“General!” Yuanxiang regained his senses and quickly suppressed his curious expression, standing at attention with a raised hand in salute.
Chang Suining followed suit and raised her hand.
“General Cui.” Ming Luo performed the greeting, wearing an appropriately shallow smile.
“May I ask what instructions the sage has?” Cui Jing inquired as a matter of routine.
Ming Luo glanced around and suggested, “Why don’t we move to General Cui’s study to talk?”
Cui Jing replied, “No need to trouble yourself.”
Chang Suining immediately understood: “We’ll take our leave.”
“Have someone take this young gentleman to the side hall to rest for a while,” Cui Jing instructed Yuanxiang.
Yuanxiang complied.
Once the young man left the front hall, Ming Luo turned to Cui Jing and smiled: “In ten days, her Majesty will personally visit Dayun Temple for three days of prayer and fasting. I hope General Cui will accompany her.”
Cui Jing replied with an “Hmm,” saying, “There was no need for Miss Ming to go out of your way just for this matter.”
Ming Luo chuckled softly: “Today, I am indeed following the sage’s orders. I passed by the Zheng Guogong Mansion on the way, so I came here.”
Cui Jing said noncommittally, “I appreciate your efforts.”
Knowing that he would surely send her off in the next moment, Ming Luo wanted to say something more. However, she suddenly heard a commotion from outside the hall.
“Don’t stop me!”
“I want to see the prince; I miss him!”
“General, please don’t make it difficult for us…”
“Why can’t I go find the prince!”
“Last time you barged into Jingshan Gongling... you nearly faced punishment!”
“I can definitely get in; let’s see who can stop me!”
Not far from the front hall, Chang Suining saw several soldiers from the Xuanzhe Mansion chasing after a tall man. He wore a blue robe, carried a bag on his shoulder, and gripped an unsheathed curved knife in his right hand, his expression very angry.
As he spoke, he charged toward the people blocking his path.
Although he was tall, his movements were unexpectedly swift, each strike carrying a powerful wind. One of the soldiers was struck on the shoulder and staggered back several steps.
“General Dian!”
“I said don’t stop me, or I’ll really be rude!” The tall man frowned fiercely, his demeanor obstinately stubborn.
Despite his words, he continued to push forward.
“We are here in the name of General Cui and General Chang to protect the general; we absolutely cannot allow him to leave the Xuanzhe Mansion!”
“You’re all bullying me! I’m going to tell the prince!” The man’s eyes reddened with urgency. With a sharp sound, he pulled out his curved knife.
The soldiers’ expressions changed. Even if they weren’t trying to stop him, they had to defend themselves.
“Get back, young master!” Seeing that the soldiers were clearly outmatched, Yuanxiang hurried forward to help.
Chang Suining frowned slightly as she watched the fight unfold.
Before she could step back, she saw one of the soldiers’ swords kicked away by the man.
The man’s strength was astounding; the sword flew swiftly, slicing through the spring breeze directly toward her face!
Chang Suining’s pupils constricted, and she instinctively tilted her head back—
She dodged just in time; the sword flew past her nose by mere inches, soaring over her head.
However, due to the urgency of her evasion, although she avoided the blade, her body tilted back too far without sufficient support, and she knew a loud thud was unavoidable.
All this happened in the blink of an eye—
In the next moment, she felt a large hand supporting her waist from behind. The hand was strong, stabilizing her form.
As she regained her footing, she instinctively turned her head to see a face just inches away. His dark, cold brows were slightly furrowed, and he held the sword that had just flown away.
He didn’t pause, but leapt forward to intercept.
His swordsmanship was profound and restrained, his movements dazzling to the eye—
Seeing Cui Jing also coming to stop him, the man’s expression grew increasingly aggrieved and indignant, and his attacks became more reckless.
Chang Suining furrowed her brow.
General Dian’s mind seemed akin to that of a three-year-old child; once he became obstinate, he would lose his reason. Cui Jing and the others clearly did not wish to hurt him, but at this rate, someone would inevitably get injured before it could be stopped.
In the next moment, her gaze fell on the bag that had fallen to the ground during the earlier struggle.
The bag was half open, with some snacks, broken silver, and a child's toy scattered around.
Chang Suining hurried forward to pick up the items and asked, “Whose bamboo dragonfly is this?”
The tall figure in the fight suddenly froze, halting his movements: “Mine!”
“Don’t touch my dragonfly!” He abandoned the fight and rushed toward Chang Suining.
Seeing the bamboo dragonfly in the young man’s hand, Cui Jing’s expression changed: “Be careful!”
Several soldiers also realized the situation was dire. That toy was General Dian’s treasure; he had to have it with him to eat or sleep, and he never allowed anyone to touch it!—At this moment, he was already angry; how could this young master provoke him further?
Cui Jing stepped forward, but saw that the high-bun-haired “young man” took two leisurely steps back, facing the incoming, aggressive man.
At the same time, he extended the bamboo dragonfly and smiled: “Here, it’s yours.”
The “young man’s” smile was sincere and harmless, devoid of hostility or threat, which silently diffused the man’s fury. He snatched his bamboo dragonfly back before he could react and curiously asked, “Are you going to Jingshan Gongling?”
The man still fumed: “I am going!”
“Are you going to find someone?” Chang Suining asked again.
“Yeah!” The man covered his bamboo dragonfly and nodded with a frown: “I want to find the prince! He lives there!”
Chang Suining replied: “But Jingshan is very far away, and it’s going to rain tomorrow. There will also be thunder.”
Seeing this, Cui Jing raised his hand to stop his subordinates from approaching again.
He observed that the seemingly casual conversation from the girl was, in fact, quite strategic; every question precisely drew in and calmed the man.
Upon hearing the word “thunder,” the man’s expression immediately changed.
He had the form and appearance of a middle-aged man, but his eyes remained pure and innocent like a child’s. When he widened his eyes, he looked like a worried puppy.
“How do you know it will thunder?”
“I guessed.”
“Is your guess accurate?”
The young man confidently nodded: “Yes, I’m very good at this.”
The soldiers exchanged strange glances; who would believe that? Only a three-year-old would fall for it.
But… their General Dian was just like a three-year-old child!
“Well…” The man glanced at the clear, cloudless sky and obviously hesitated: “Then I’ll wait for two days; after it rains, I’ll set off.”
He then turned to the young man: “Thank you for reminding me.”
The soldiers: “…”
After thanking him, the man suddenly blinked, curiously circling around Chang Suining twice, as if confirming something.
Suddenly, he exclaimed: “I remember you!”
Good afternoon, everyone! Have you eaten yet?
