**Chapter 143: To Pierce or Not to Pierce**

After hearing her mother’s explanation, Suisui realized that the earrings wouldn’t be directly pierced into her ears with the hook, and she felt much more at ease. The amethyst earrings were beautiful, and Suisui liked them. Remembering how her sister Mengmeng had graciously accepted her gift, Suisui thought she could keep hers too.

Thinking this, she clung to her mother’s leg and looked up, softly saying thank you.

The sweet voice of a child had a healing quality, and Qi Wangfei wished she could give Suisui the stars from the sky.

Qi Wangfei picked out earrings, jade pendants, and safety buckles, all suited for a little girl. It was evident that the Grand Princess’s household had considered Suisui when selecting the gifts, as there were many items suitable for a child, including two small bracelets made with emerald and amber, adorned with a few agates. The colors were bold, but they were exactly the kind of vibrant hues that children loved.

After some consideration, Qi Wangfei added the two bracelets to Suisui’s private collection. Xiang Gu took notes, carefully managing the young lady’s personal inventory, just like aunt Qiu did with the general household records.

Next, they reviewed some ornaments. Though Suisui didn’t yet have her own room, she would eventually, and Qi Wangfei planned to select more colorful items from storage to decorate it. Among the items was a gilded incense burner that caught her eye, so she set it aside.

The final items they reviewed were fabrics. Qi Wangfei noted each color until she found a soft pink and a moonlight-hued silk. “These are perfect for Suisui,” she said with a smile. “They’re soft, comfortable, and great for making nightwear that’s cool in summer and warm in winter.”

Qi Wangfei imagined the lovely colors against Suisui’s fair skin, and her eyes lit up. She wished she could transform the fabric into clothing on the spot, but her sewing skills left much to be desired. Reflecting on this, Qi Wangfei’s excitement cooled. She instructed aunt Xiang to store the fabrics safely and inquired about her sewing skills. After assessing aunt Xiang’s skill from a hat she had made, Qi Wangfei was reassured, but she remained cautious.

Once the gifts were sorted, Qi Wangfei took Suisui and Liu Hemeng to find Physician Liu. Physician Liu had been busy preparing medicinal baths for Suisui’s scars, especially the older, more stubborn ones, although he wasn’t sure if they could be fully removed. Still, it was worth trying.

After spending all morning mixing a month’s worth of treatments, Physician Liu explained the bath routine: every three days, Suisui would need to soak for at least as long as it takes an incense stick to burn. While it was tedious, achieving a good result would make all the effort worthwhile.

Upon seeing the princess approach, Physician Liu greeted her and briefly discussed the medicinal bath. Both Qi Wangfei and aunt Xiang listened intently, afraid they might miss anything important. However, Physician Liu had thoughtfully documented the process, ensuring aunt Xiang could easily follow along.

Once the discussion about the bath concluded, Qi Wangfei asked about ear piercing. This task was delicate and could easily cause resentment in children, so Physician Liu hesitated. “Does Suisui want it?” he asked gently, knowing it would hurt, not just during the piercing but also during the healing phase when the threads needed to be adjusted regularly.

Qi Wangfei felt uneasy, unsure whether to go ahead. She asked Suisui, “It’ll hurt a bit, Suisui. Do you want to do it? If you do, you’ll be able to wear beautiful earrings afterward.”

Suisui was scared when she heard it would hurt, but she was also envious of Mengmeng’s dangling earrings. She asked her system, Lele, in a small voice, “Lele, should I get my ears pierced? Will it hurt a lot?”

The system, knowing the traditional, straightforward method would be painful, replied truthfully: “If Suisui likes it, you can do it, but it will hurt. You’ll have to be brave for a few days, but afterward, you’ll look beautiful!”

Suisui pondered for a while, clearly conflicted. Watching her furrowed brow, both Qi Wangfei and Physician Liu found her incredibly endearing.

Unable to resist, Qi Wangfei wanted to scoop Suisui up and kiss her, while Physician Liu found the child’s antics amusing. However, with his own granddaughter nearby, he refrained from showing too much affection.

Physician Liu turned to prepare the necessary tools. Though the household hadn’t had a young girl until now, the marquis had always hoped for one and had instructed the Physician to keep such supplies on hand.

After some thought, Suisui finally looked up at her mother and nodded. “Mother, I’ll do it. I’m ready!”

Despite her fear of pain, Suisui couldn’t shake the image of the pretty earrings on Mengmeng and the other elegant ladies she had seen. She wanted to fit in with the girls of the capital, and a part of her feared letting her mother or brother down if she didn’t.

It would only hurt for a few days. She could endure it.

So, she would do it!
