Chapter 334: Family Ruin and the Hawk Brings News (5)

In the afternoon, Mo Yan sought out Xiao Zhu, requesting his help in finding some people to take turns guarding the warehouse. The Xue family knew its location, and she had to guard against any underhanded tricks. As for the shop, Li Zhong would take turns overseeing it with Tie Tou and Wang Pangtou.

Xiao Zhu readily agreed to this minor request and informed Mo Yan about the recent changes in the Zhang family.

Although Mo Yan hadn't explicitly asked him to keep an eye on the Zhang family, the friends Xiao Zhu had contacted earlier still occasionally checked on them. When they learned about the incident, they immediately reported back to Xiao Zhu.

Upon hearing the news, Mo Yan merely said, "Serves them right," showing no sympathy for the Zhang family's plight. She despised Yao Taohua for meddling in another's family, but she loathed Zhang Ming even more for his lack of self-control.

Disasters created by heaven are forgivable; those created by oneself are not. The Zhang family's misfortune was their own doing. Had they not been so greedy, eyeing what was in the pot while still holding onto what was in their bowl, they wouldn't have driven their "bowl" to such extremes. Wasn't Zhang Fugui the same? If he hadn't tried to make a quick buck by using the shop, he wouldn't have ended up in prison.

When Mo Yan returned from Huixian Residence, she relayed the incident to Li Zhong. He merely smiled faintly, unconcerned with the Zhang family's fate.

That evening, Li Zhong and Wang Pangtou stayed to guard the shop. Mo Yan sat at the front of the flatbed cart, pretending to drive, letting Xiao Hei pull her and Tie Tou back to Liuyang Village.

By the time she settled Xiao Hei and the cart in the yard, it was completely dark. She carried a storm lantern to the Wang family, informing them that with the year's end approaching, there were many petty thieves in town, and Wang Pangtou would be helping guard the shop, returning home only every other day.

The Wang family assured her it was no problem, even if Wang Pangtou stayed longer. Many in the village envied their child for catching the Mo family's eye. If Wang Pangtou worked harder and more diligently, it would be difficult for anyone to replace him in the future.

Returning from the lively Wang household, Mo Yan found the meal already on the table, and her family waiting for her to start eating.

As soon as she sat down, Xiao Hua, Da Bai, and Mao Tuan each brought their bowls to her feet, waiting for her to feed them. Though the rest of the family liked feeding the pets, they always seemed to prefer Mo Yan's cooking.

Just as the family, along with their three furry companions, was enjoying dinner, a hawk squeezed through the slightly open door, fluttering its wings as it landed on Mo Yan's... head. It then proudly extended a leg towards her.

Everyone's eyes immediately focused on the hawk's leg, where a conspicuous message tube was attached.

Mo Yan sat frozen, seemingly unresponsive. The closest, Xin'er, nudged her, "Sister, who are you communicating with? Mao Mao has a message for you!"

"Yes, big sister, quickly open it and see if it's for you," Zhen'er added eagerly. If not for Mao Mao's fierce nature, preventing strangers from touching it, he would have grabbed the message tube himself.

Unaware that the hawk, Mao Mao, was a gift from Xiao Ruiyuan, the family assumed it was another of Mo Yan's finds from the mountains.

Impatient with Mo Yan's slow movements, Mao Mao let out an unhappy squawk, lightly pecking her forehead and tapping her head with its other foot, urging her to hurry.

Mo Yan's face twitched. She grabbed the hawk, which was "lording" over her head, and under the expectant gazes of her family, walked to the door, opened it, and tossed the bird outside, slamming the door shut behind it.

Seeing the odd looks from her family, Mo Yan expressionlessly picked up her bowl, "Let's eat!"
