Chapter 155: You Are Not In Exile You Are Clearly Traveling!

 Chapter 155: Betting Right

Chen Xue longed to act, knowing that the person who tried to kill her family couldn't be allowed to go free. Who knew when they might strike again? However, as an ordinary person and not the omnipotent deity people believed her to be, it was challenging to find the culprit.

"Wait..."

"Father, if the person knew that shouting would cause an avalanche, then they must have a grudge against us..."

Master Chen nodded. "Indeed, but many people envy us. We don't know who they are."

"But isn't there someone who hates us to the bone?" Chen Xue asked.

"Are you talking about Zhang Yiquan?" Master Chen was taken aback. He hadn't thought of Zhang Yiquan in a long time, almost forgetting he existed.

If anyone harbored deep hatred, it would be him toward the Zhang family. If not for Zhang Yiquan leading the accusations, they wouldn't have been exiled. Chen Xue could have lived a life of luxury, but now she had to endure hardships because of Zhang Yiquan.

At times, he wanted to strangle Zhang Yiquan in revenge but restrained himself. Busy with tasks in their hidden space, he had almost forgotten about revenge, knowing that directly killing Zhang Yiquan would give envious prisoners ammunition against him.

If it reached the capital, their punishment might worsen. He endured for the sake of his wife and daughter. Fortunately, after the bandit incident, Zhang Yiquan had been lying low, not provoking him.

Reminded by Chen Xue, he considered that Zhang Yiquan might indeed be the culprit.

"But without evidence, it would be hard to explain..." Master Chen frowned. Chen Xue, as a "celestial," had to be careful to maintain her image. If she accused the wrong person, her divine status would be questioned.

"Regardless, we must avenge ourselves, right?" Chen Xue said.

Master Chen said nothing more as they walked toward Zhang Yiquan.

"Cuulung, it's me, your husband, Zhang Lang!" As they approached, they saw Zhang Yiquan being beaten by his wife, who seemed deranged, muttering to herself about protecting their son.

"Stop, I won't do it again!" Zhang Yiquan shouted, but his wife didn't listen, continuing her assault.

Some women nearby felt pity, seeing Zhang's wife's state. Zhang Yiquan tried to calm her, but she ignored him, eating snow with leaves and dirt.

"Cuiling, that's not food!" Zhang Yiquan rushed over, pulling the snow from her hands. She cried out for her "food," frantically searching the ground.

"Where's my food? Wei hasn't eaten yet!" She grew increasingly frantic, attacking Zhang Yiquan again.

Zhang Yiquan pretended to fall, causing his wife to fall too. She found a stick and began beating him with it. He cried out, curling into a ball to protect his head.

Xu Tian, seeing this, instinctively moved to intervene, but Master Chen stopped him, turning away with Chen Xue.

Xu Tian didn't understand but obeyed, eventually intervening to stop Zhang's wife.

"I'm fine!" Zhang Yiquan assured, wincing in pain. "I just need to rest."

"Shouldn't we call a doctor?" Xu Tian asked.

"No need," Zhang Yiquan replied bitterly. "Chen Yuan wouldn't let their doctor treat me anyway."

"That's not true! Master Chen isn't petty," Xu Tian defended.

"Forget it," Zhang Yiquan waved him off. "I don't want to die."

Xu Tian left, and Zhang Yiquan breathed a sigh of relief, inspecting his bandaged arm and shoulder. Despite the protection, the blows still hurt terribly. Yet, pain was better than losing his life. He hadn't expected the Chen family to confront him but had prepared a ruse.

He incited his wife to beat him, earning sympathy from the prisoners. If the Chen family harmed him now, they'd be seen as bullies, tarnishing their celestial image. His gambit paid off.

Zhang Yiquan smiled, knowing he'd bet correctly.
