Chapter 114: Is Xiao Fu Bao Disliked? The Whole City Loves Me With Their Lives

**Chapter 114: Teacher Shen**

After calming Suisui, Qi Wangfei went to the front yard and called for Physician Liu to inquire about his granddaughter.

After hearing the request, Physician Liu didn’t agree right away. Instead, he smiled and said, “I have no objections, but I need to ask Mengmeng about her thoughts when I return home.”

Qi Wangfei nodded, understanding. While many matters can be decided by adults with children following along, she preferred to involve the child’s opinion, a practice she learned from Physician Liu.

After discussing the reading companion, she casually asked about Physician Liu's family. Eventually, she brought up the palace: “Has Concubine Yue recovered from her illness?”

Physician Liu nodded, “I heard she’s much better now.” Although he was no longer in the Imperial Medical department, his son still worked there, so he could inquire about palace affairs.

Once reassured that Concubine Yue was well, Qi Wangfei shared her concerns about Suisui’s health, wanting to ensure the child made up for the hardships she had endured in the past.

As the conversation progressed, Qi Wangfei expressed her worries: “I heard the children from the Jinyang Marquis’ residence are still at the villa?”

Physician Liu nodded. “Yes, they are said to be learning etiquette.”

He considered mentioning that the Jinyang Marquis’ family was focused on properly educating their daughters before letting them appear in public, but refrained, feeling it inappropriate to speak ill of them in front of the princess.

Qi Wangfei, however, had no such reservations. “Their rules are just that—rules. It’s not that impressive,” she said dismissively, knowing the Marquis wasn’t exactly responsible and that his family had its share of foolishness.

Although she usually maintained a gentle demeanor, her frustration regarding Suisui’s situation was evident.

Physician Liu was amused but remained silent, not wanting to provoke her further. Qi Wangfei was content not to dwell on the matter, focusing instead on Suisui.

Having napped for a while, Suisui had yet to awaken, which worried Qi Wangfei. The boys, having finished their morning lessons, were eager to see their sister, but she wouldn’t let them in for fear of waking her.

Feeling disappointed, Feng Xuanrui headed to the dining hall with his brothers.

Meanwhile, Qi Wangfei arranged for lunch through Aunt Qiu and then visited Teacher Shen to inform him about Suisui’s upcoming schooling. Teacher Shen was known for his open-minded approach to education and didn’t typically mind what students he took on.

When she arrived, she got straight to the point, knowing Teacher Shen appreciated directness.

After hearing about Suisui, Teacher Shen nodded, “That child seems quite bright.”

Receiving praise from Teacher Shen was no small feat, and Qi Wangfei felt a bit shy. “She’s a pitiful child too,” she added, recounting Suisui's past hardships to elicit sympathy and ensure Teacher Shen would not dismiss her simply for being a girl.

Teacher Shen, a man of letters with a robust character, became visibly furious upon hearing about Suisui's previous misfortunes. His usual demeanor, calm and jovial, transformed as he bellowed, “Where is Liu Xuanshan? What’s he doing about it? Didn’t he do anything when he returned?”

Liu Xuanshan was Physician Liu’s full name, and Teacher Shen had once taught him, treating him almost like a son.

Qi Wangfei was caught off guard by his outburst, realizing her intent to invoke pity had backfired.

She felt a mix of awkwardness and helplessness. While she knew the situation was under control, she also understood that the complexities involving Xu Yueyao meant they couldn't just eliminate the problem outright, as it would unjustly benefit her.

While she had little respect for the Jinyang Marquis’ family, she acknowledged the status their daughter held in contrast to ordinary village girls.

Seeing Teacher Shen's rage, she decided to be honest, saying softly, “I heard he dealt with it, but with many issues involved, he only managed to discipline them, not eliminate them.”

Teacher Shen, generally reserved, had a deep sense of justice that resonated strongly with him, especially in regard to students.

After processing the news, his anger gradually subsided. He waved his hand dismissively, “Fine. When you’re ready, send her over.”

After a moment’s thought, he added, “If you don’t mind, I’ll send my second granddaughter over to accompany Suisui. It would be good for them to have each other for support.”

Teacher Shen’s second granddaughter, an eleven-year-old named Shen, was quiet and mature, and Qi Wangfei had met her a couple of times and liked her. Having her around would help Suisui adapt to life in the capital more smoothly.

Grateful for Teacher Shen’s consideration, Qi Wangfei thanked him and promised to express her appreciation later.

As she made her way back to her courtyard, she reminded Aunt Qiu to keep an eye out for any rare books, eager to thank Teacher Shen appropriately.
