Chapter 109: Is Xiao Fu Bao Disliked? The Whole City Loves Me With Their Lives
Chapter 109: Suisui Likes This Aunt
Feng Xuanbin’s loud cries made the entire room fall silent. Feng Xuanbo, who had been watching, finally said in a low but decisive tone, “You’re disturbing Suisui’s ears, Seventh Brother.”
Feng Xuanbin, who had been crying, stopped abruptly, suddenly realizing what Fifth Brother had said. He wiped away his tears and scrambled to Suisui’s side, giving her a friendly smile and saying, “Don’t worry, sister. I’m just crying for fun. Usually, I’m very strong and never cry when facing difficulties.”
Suisui wanted to say she didn’t believe him, especially since she had seen Seventh Brother cry several times in the past two days. But she figured that if she said it, Seventh Brother might be really upset. So, she decided to be a good sister and just believe him.
Feng Xuanbin cheered up quickly and joined the other brothers, happily interacting with them. Feng Xuanbo took this opportunity to quietly put away the nine-linked rings, thinking that there was no need to force himself to solve the puzzle.
After dinner, the children played for a while, which helped them bond and digest their food. When the time was right, Qi Wangfei instructed the servants to take them back to their rooms.
The princes’ rooms were spacious, with separate sleeping quarters and washing areas, so they could wash up and prepare for bed in their own rooms.
Feng Xuanrui didn’t want to leave and kept asking Qi Wangfei, “Mother, can I really not stay?”
Feng Xuanbin, hearing this, also clung to Suisui’s hand, looking at Qi Wangfei with hopeful eyes.
Qi Wangfei thought that if she agreed, the night would be anything but peaceful. With a smile, she shook her head.
Feng Xuanrui was disappointed but reminded Suisui to sleep well and think of her brothers. Suisui also felt reluctant to part with her brothers but looked forward to sleeping with her mother, who smelled so nice.
Feng Xuanbin added his own words of reassurance, trying to be a good brother. After the brothers had been sent off, Qi Wangfei took Suisui to wash up.
Since they had visited the estate and got dusty, Qi Wangfei had the new maid, Aunt Xiang, help Suisui bathe. To make Suisui feel more comfortable, Aunt Xiang was accompanied by Haitang, whom Suisui was familiar with.
Unlike common folk who might bathe only once a year with a shared pot of hot water, the nobility had hot water available daily. Suisui had a personal bath tub now, which was just the right size for her. She could sit comfortably with her neck at the water level, not fearing falling in.
Aunt Xiang took care of Suisui’s bath, applying soap and rinsing her thoroughly. Since she had been cleaned yesterday, there was no much dirt to wash off, and a simple wash was enough.
After bathing, Suisui changed into a mint-colored nightgown and Aunt Xiang gently dried her hair, making sure she wouldn’t catch a cold from the night air.
Aunt Xiang, a kind-faced woman with a round face and gentle mannerisms, had a soft spot for Suisui. Suisui, although shy, felt a fondness for Aunt Xiang and, following her instincts, hugged her neck gently and snuggled in.
Aunt Xiang’s heart melted at Suisui’s soft and affectionate gesture. Having faced her own hardships and disappointments in life, she found solace in Suisui’s affection. She resolved to take good care of this sweet child.
When it was time to sleep, Qi Wangfei wanted to make sure Suisui was aware of the gifts from the various courtyards. She had Suisui placed down gently and, upon touching the ground, Suisui rushed to Qi Wangfei, calling out, “Mother!”
Qi Wangfei, moved by Suisui’s affectionate embrace, held her close and explained with a smile, “The aunts from various courtyards have sent gifts for you. Let’s see if you like them.”
Suisui recalled her brother’s explanation of “welcome gifts” and understood now that these were indeed gifts. She looked at the boxes with interest, eager to see what they contained.
