Chapter 110: Is Xiao Fu Bao Disliked? The Whole City Loves Me With Their Lives
Chapter 110: The Deer Skin Backpack
On the table were several boxes, adding up to seven or eight in total.
Suisui couldn’t believe that all these gifts were for her. She pressed closer to her mother and nervously asked, “Are all these for me?”
Noticing the little girl’s anxiety, Qi Wangfei gently patted her back and smiled, “Of course, they are all for our dear Suisui.”
At that moment, Suisui felt that this might be the happiest moment in the world, nestled in her mother’s arms and surrounded by countless beautiful gifts. Although they were all in boxes, just seeing them brought a sense of satisfaction and happiness.
Suisui was too shy to open the gifts herself, so Qi Wangfei took her hand and slowly began to unwrap them.
The first gifts were from the two concubines. Qi Wangfei started with the gift from Concubine Ren.
When the box was opened, it revealed a dazzling golden collar. Under the candlelight, it was truly eye-catching. The collar was made of pure gold, about as thick as an adult’s thumb, and was adorned with intricate floral designs and warm purple jade.
Although it had a simple design of gold and jade, the craftsmanship was exquisite. It was more than just an accessory; it was a valuable asset, too heavy for daily wear, especially for a child.
Seeing Suisui gasp, Qi Wangfei laughed softly and gently patted her head. “Yes, this is a gift from Aunt Ren. Suisui should thank her properly later.”
Suisui nodded obediently, “I will, Mother.”
To alleviate any concerns Suisui might have, Qi Wangfei quickly reassured her, “You are my child, and you hold a distinguished status. If you like the gifts, accept them; if not, you can graciously decline. Don’t worry about offending anyone or not being able to return the gifts.”
Suisui didn’t fully understand the deeper meaning of Qi Wangfei’s words but nodded in response.
The golden collar was too large for Suisui to wear, so Qi Wangfei closed the box after asking Suisui’s opinion.
Aunt Xiang, who was beside them, had already started cataloging the gifts for future management. These gifts were to be carefully recorded and organized as Suisui’s personal possessions.
Next came the gift from Concubine Meng. It was a finely crafted, solid gold longevity lock adorned with large red gemstones. Qi Wangfei immediately knew it was heavy and solid, another item Suisui couldn’t wear but could be kept as valuable.
Qi Wangfei thought that starting a dowry collection for Suisui was a good idea. By the time Suisui reached marriageable age, she might be the richest girl in the city even before any dowries were added.
With this thought, Qi Wangfei’s smile grew warmer. She gently asked Suisui, “Do you like these gifts?”
Who wouldn’t like something so golden and beautiful? Suisui, snuggled in her mother’s arms, shyly nodded, “I like them.”
Qi Wangfei knew that Suisui might not understand the discomfort of wearing such heavy items, so she decided that Suisui would only try them on when she was older. For now, she would store them until Suisui’s new clothes were ready.
After the gifts from the two concubines, it was time for the gifts from the other servants and concubines in the rear courtyard. There were not many prominent concubines in Qi Wangfei’s household. Although Prince Qi was passionate about having a daughter, he wasn’t one to indiscriminately promote maidservants to concubine status.
Among the concubines, the largest box came from Concubine Wen, who was Feng Xuanjie’s mother. Qi Wangfei opened this box first.
Inside was something Suisui looked at with curiosity. Qi Wangfei smiled and said, “Aunt Wen put in a lot of effort with this gift.”
Suisui didn’t understand and looked at her mother.
Qi Wangfei gently explained, “This is a deer skin backpack made by Aunt Wen. You can use it to carry some snacks when you go to class.”
The backpack, although small and not much larger than two adult palms, was just the right size for the slender Suisui. The deer skin was soft but plain in color. Aunt Wen had stitched on a few pretty bamboo leaf designs and added a turquoise tassel to brighten the otherwise dull bag, giving it a touch of playfulness.
The idea of a backpack was new to Suisui, and she was excited but hesitant, fearing she might upset her mother.
Seeing Suisui’s hesitation, Qi Wangfei understood her feelings. She gently placed Suisui on the ground and took the backpack. “Let’s try it on and see if it fits. If not, we can ask Aunt Wen to make adjustments, okay?”
Suisui’s eyes lit up at the chance to try on the backpack. She happily agreed, “Yes, I’ll listen to Mother.”
Qi Wangfei was moved by Suisui’s earnest and innocent response. She gently adjusted the backpack on Suisui’s back, considering that Haitang, skilled in handcrafts, could make several more backpacks in vibrant colors for Suisui to wear daily.
The backpack fit perfectly, with a deer skin strap to close the top and an additional flap to keep the contents secure.
Qi Wangfei knew that such a carefully made gift couldn’t have been prepared hastily. It was likely intended for the long-absent young lady of their household. However, it was now gifted to her beloved Suisui, making her heart swell with anticipation and joy.
