Ye Muyu declined any further reduction in the price only accepting the negotiated offer. In his heart, Wang Chuan sighed slightly, further convinced that the Chu family was worth befriending.


Ye Muyu appreciated sincerity and disliked manipulation. Wang Chuan's straightforwardness pleased her and she was willing to form a friendship with him.


"Oh, I wonder how Wang Haiyan's health is. I want to make a few pairs of shoes," Ye Muyu stated. In the village, people wore straw shoes when working in the fields, reserving cloth shoes for trips to the county or visiting relatives on holidays.


Ye Muyu planned to make leather boots for long journeys, waterproof and breathable fabric shoes.


In a month, Chu Heng would be heading to the provincial capital for the imperial examination. The journey would take about seven or eight days and there was only one rest stop halfway, making it inconvenient for washing and grooming.


July was the hottest time of the year and proper clothing and shoes were essential to endure the long journey. Considering the remote travel and the three consecutive days of exams upon arrival, maintaining good health was crucial to avoid exhaustion and potential fainting in the examination hall.


Exams at this time tested not only scholars' knowledge but also their physical endurance. Those with poor health might even faint during the exam.


Ye Muyu had already planned to find a shoemaker to craft the shoes. The Wang family seemed suitable and their craftsmanship was good. She believed they could make the shoes she desired.


"My father's health may not allow him to make too many shoes. At most, he can make one pair in five days. If Sister-in-law doesn't mind, I can handle it." Wang Chuan spoke honestly. He was concerned that Ye Muyu might be in a hurry and considering the impending move, it might take ten days or half a month to stabilize.


"You can do it, I won't trouble Wang Haiyan." Ye Muyu agreed.


"I have drawn a few design sketches of the shoes, along with the specifications. You can take a look." she added.


Ye Muyu was not skilled in classical painting, especially using a brush. Thus, Chu Heng drew the shoes on the design sheets. She only needed to specify her requirements and he could accurately draw them.


"Take a look." Ye Muyu handed the design sheets to him.


There were three pairs of shoes in total.


One pair of leather boots, following the customary style of the time. However, they were designed to be thin-soled boots. Government officials typically wore thick-soled boots, while common people wore fabric boots. Leather boots were more expensive but they were waterproof and could repel mosquitoes.


Thin-soled boots were mostly used by soldiers, and Wang Chuan was somewhat surprised when he saw the design. However, without asking too many questions, he simply said he could make them.


In addition to that, there was a pair of breathable fabric shoes, following the design of fabric shoes from the previous era. Chu Heng could wear them while sitting in a carriage but they might not be suitable for outside wear. After all, they had some openings and in the eyes of ordinary Great Chu citizens, that would be considered improper.


So, Wang Chuan hesitated for a moment and asked "Sister-in-law, when do you plan to wear these shoes?"


"Don't worry, it's only for indoors, breathable and comfortable for summer." Ye Muyu smiled.


Wang Chuan breathed a sigh of relief. Although they looked strange, making them wasn't difficult. He nodded in agreement.


The last pair was a standard pair of thick-soled fabric boots, the kind Chu Heng usually wore. When heading to the examination hall, he would need to change into this formal type of shoe.


"Sister-in-law, I can make all these shoes. When do you need them?" Wang Chuan accepted the design sheets and inquired about the timeline.


"At the latest, deliver them one month from now," Ye Muyu replied. One month later would be the end of July when the county scholars would go to the capital for the examination.
