Chapter 149: You Are Not In Exile You Are Clearly Traveling!

 Chapter 149: Despair

"Help, someone help!"

Many people were still close to the valley entrance when they saw the avalanches on both sides. Terrified, they scrambled and crawled with all their might to escape the valley.

Fortunately, the distance was short enough for these people to flee before the avalanche engulfed the valley.

However, the Chen family wasn't so lucky. They were still in the center of the valley, with at least dozens of meters left to reach the entrance. Though the distance seemed short, escaping the terrifying avalanche was impossible unless they had divine intervention.

"Master!"

The Chen family's servants, following Master Chen's orders, were at the forefront assisting the prisoners to evacuate quickly. But as the avalanche occurred, the prisoners surged forward frantically, needing no further prompting. Consequently, the servants were pushed along with the crowd, like leaves floating on waves.

They were forced to leave the valley with the crowd, and by the time they broke free, they were far from the Chen family. Desperately, they shouted and even rushed toward Chen Xue, attempting to rescue them.

"Are you crazy?"

Several bailiffs instinctively held them back. "Do you want to die?"

"We live for the Chen family and die for the Chen family!" Chen Da resolutely shook off the constable's hand. "The master is in danger. How can we stand by and do nothing?"

"Exactly, even if it means dying, we will die with the master."

Their words moved the onlookers.

"Fine, we'll go with you!"

Several of the Chen family's guards echoed their sentiments. They were Xie Yunshang's personal guards. Even if Master Chen died, they would only be blamed for their incompetence. Charging into the terrifying avalanche was akin to a death sentence. However, the Chen family had treated them like family, akin to how General Xie had treated them as friends.

They felt respected and recognized. As the saying goes, "A soldier dies for one who understands him."

"Master Chen, run!"

At this moment, a figure dashed past them before they could act. It was Xu Tian. He had been helping with the evacuation and turned back upon hearing the commotion. Seeing the avalanche, his face turned pale as he raced back, witnessing the endless white torrent crashing down the slopes.

The thunderous roar reverberated in everyone's ears, shaking their hearts and spurring them to run desperately away from the valley. Yet Xu Tian saw Chen Xue's family at the base of the white torrent, looking like ants, a fragile leaf boat on the verge of capsizing.

His eyes reddened as he charged toward the valley, intending to help Master Chen.

"Captain, don't be reckless!"

"Yes!"

"Going there now is suicide!"

Several bailiffs rushed to hold him back, some out of genuine concern for Xu Tian, others for more self-serving reasons. They worried that without a captain, the prisoners might cause trouble again. They also suspected Xu Tian might be putting on a show, not genuinely intending to rush in.

So, with various motives, many bailiffs restrained Xu Tian, preventing him from going forward.

"Let go of me! Let me save Master Chen! Damn it, let go of me!"

"Master Chen is in danger. How can I stand by? You bastards, let go of me!"

Xu Tian cried out in despair, knowing he was too late to save anyone due to the delay caused by his subordinates.

On the other side, seeing the avalanche, Chen Xue's family was struck with terror. Master Chen frantically urged the horse to run, but in his haste, the horse went wild and the carriage got stuck in the snow.

Knowing the distance was too great to escape, he tried to drive the carriage at top speed, hoping to outrun the avalanche. But fate was against them. The more they tried to escape, the more trapped they became. In this critical moment, the carriage got stuck in the snow.

This sudden blow filled them with despair as they saw the white torrent approaching. They could feel the snow hitting them painfully, hear the distant shouts, and see the servants rushing toward them.

"I'm sorry, Xue'er," Master Chen apologized. "If there's another life, I'll make it up to you and your mother."

Chen Xue refused to despair so quickly, cutting off her father, "Father, it's not over yet."

She swiftly stored everyone and the carriage into her space, leaving only herself behind. Facing the oncoming avalanche, her heart pounded with fear.

She didn't hesitate and ran toward the avalanche. From past documentaries and educational programs, she knew that to survive an avalanche, you should run horizontally. But realistically, running horizontally was impossible, so she had to run into the avalanche.

Earlier, she had noticed a protruding rock wall not far up the slope, barely enough to shelter one or two people, but it was sufficient.

"Where's Master Chen?"

From a distance, people saw the carriage disappear, leaving only one figure running toward the avalanche.

"What is she doing?"

Some sharp-eyed individuals recognized Chen Xue and were surprised to see her running toward the avalanche.

"Is she seeking death?"

"Shut up! Show some respect for Miss Chen," someone reprimanded. "Miss Chen must have her reasons."

"A mere avalanche can't harm Miss Chen."

In their minds, Chen Xue could make the sun disappear when angry, so they believed an avalanche couldn't harm her. If Chen Xue knew their thoughts, she would be pleased and might even sing a thank-you song.

While people were surprised, the two terrifying white torrents finally descended the slopes, engulfing the valley, Chen Xue, and everyone's view.

The Chen family's servants and guards, who had intended to rush over, had to retreat quickly but were still buried by the snow.

"No!" Xu Tian, dragged by his subordinates far from the valley, was stunned by the terrifying sight. They let go of him, and he collapsed, feeling his world crumble in despair.

"Why! Why did this happen! Master Chen… Miss Chen…"
