Chapter 153: Is Xiao Fu Bao Disliked? The Whole City Loves Me With Their Lives
**Chapter 153: A Unique Gift**
After hearing what Suisui said, Shaoyao's eyelids twitched wildly. She wanted to stop her but didn't know how, so she could only look at Qi Wangfei with a troubled expression.
Shaoyao hoped that her master would understand. With this look, surely the princess would get the message, right?
Qi Wangfei naturally noticed Shaoyao's hesitant manner and could sense that something was off. However, she didn’t think too much about it.
At the moment, Qi Wangfei was too focused on the box Suisui presented to her. Her sweet daughter was giving her a gift. How wonderful! She hadn’t spoiled this child in vain.
Delighted, Qi Wangfei accepted the box, while Shaoyao watched nervously, her heart pounding.
Aunt Qiu was puzzled by Shaoyao's behavior, thinking she might be unwell, so she whispered, “Are you feeling sick?”
Servants were allowed to rest if they were unwell, mainly to avoid spreading illness to their masters. Aunt Qiu asked out of concern.
In response, Shaoyao frantically shook her head, then shook her head even harder at Qi Wangfei.
Shaoyao thought, "Oh, how bitter my life is!" If she were to say it directly, she might hurt the young girl’s feelings. But if she didn’t say anything, she couldn’t imagine Qi Wangfei’s reaction when she saw the contents of the box.
Life, why must you make things so difficult for a mere maid like me?
Qi Wangfei vaguely understood Shaoyao’s signal and wondered if the gift from Suisui was something unusual. But no matter how unusual, it was her daughter’s heartfelt offering. Qi Wangfei thought that even if it were a mountain of swords or a sea of flames, she would have to accept it.
With this resolve, she smiled at Suisui, gently touched the little girl’s soft cheek, and began to slowly open the box.
Shaoyao tried to rush over to help the princess open it, but Qi Wangfei glanced up and shook her head, stopping her.
Shaoyao: …! Does Physician Liu still have some heart-calming pills? Would she have time to fetch them now?
Having seen Shaoyao’s strange behavior, Qi Wangfei braced herself for a somewhat unconventional gift.
Feng Xuanrui, however, didn’t think much of it. He was just curious about what kind of gift his sister had prepared for their mother.
One thing that bothered him, though, was that their mother had a gift, but he didn’t.
Pulling at Suisui’s sleeve, he whined softly, “Sister, Mother has a gift; why don’t I have one?”
Suisui immediately raised her hand high. “You do, you do! Don’t worry, Brother, there are five more boxes! Each of you has one, and I even measured to make sure they’re about the same size. Yours is the biggest!”
Hearing that he had a gift too, and that it was the biggest one, Feng Xuanrui happily ran over to the stack of boxes.
The boxes all looked similar, and Suisui had already said the contents were roughly the same, so there was no need to choose carefully. But knowing that his brothers also had gifts made Feng Xuanrui feel a bit sour.
He thought, “Maybe I should just eliminate them all. That way, all the gifts would be mine alone!”
Qi Wangfei, feeling both apprehensive and touched, opened the box. When she saw what was inside, her pupils shrank, but her hands remained steady. She didn’t throw the box away.
Shaoyao, on the other hand, was so nervous she could barely breathe, afraid that the princess might scream or even faint. She was mentally prepared to rush for the heart-calming pills if needed.
To her surprise, Qi Wangfei remained incredibly composed after seeing the gift.
This left Shaoyao feeling disoriented. The tension had drained her strength, leaving her feeling faint.
Shaoyao faintly recalled that, years ago, when the Sixth Young Master was still small, hadn’t he done something similar?
If she had asked Qi Wangfei, the princess would have smiled and said: Yes, indeed.
To be honest, when Qi Wangfei saw that the gift was a worm, she was indeed startled. But she had been frightened before, and her mental fortitude was now strong.
So, though her pupils had shrunk, she remained calm, even smiling as she closed the box and handed it to Aunt Qiu. She then touched Suisui’s head and said, “What a unique gift. Mother…really likes it.”
The last three words were spoken with some reluctance.
But this was her daughter’s affection. When little kids give gifts, they don’t consider whether the items are good, bad, or scary. They simply offer what they like to those they love most.
Qi Wangfei thought to herself: She is Suisui’s favorite person.
Reflecting on this, her mood brightened considerably.
After all, it was just a worm. It couldn’t be worse than a toad, could it?
Yes, a few years ago, Qi Wangfei had received a carefully packaged gift box from Feng Xuanrui, decorated with a few small flowers. Inside were two lively, jumping toads.
The moment the box was opened, the toads almost leapt onto her face!
Thinking back to that scene, even years later, Qi Wangfei still felt a pang of fear.
So, what harm could a mere worm do? Compared to the toads, the worm was almost gentle.
Yes, Suisui was indeed more considerate. Being a gentle girl, she knew how to care for her mother’s feelings.
Qi Wangfei joyfully stroked Suisui’s head.
Seeing that her mother liked her gift, Suisui happily nuzzled closer.
Meanwhile, Feng Xuanrui opened his box and exclaimed, “Wow, it’s kind of cute. Let me touch it.”
Children are naturally curious and not easily scared by moving things. Feng Xuanrui, grabbing the worm, brought it close to Suisui. “Sister, look, its head is so big!”
His keen eyes could tell the head from the tail, something even Suisui couldn’t do.
After a long look, Suisui shook her head. “I can’t tell, Brother.”
Feng Xuanrui thought for a moment, then grabbed the worm with both hands. “Let me stretch it out for you. Then you’ll see its head clearly.”
All the servants: …! Somebody save us, please!
They were already afraid of worms, and now they had to witness one being stretched out before them.
Help!
Qi Wangfei’s expression wasn’t exactly pleasant. Even though she had grown accustomed to such surprises after years of parenting, there was something particularly unnerving about slimy, stretchy creatures.
The princess wanted to suggest that the children stop playing and wash up for dinner, especially since the noise from the front yard indicated that the other young masters had returned.
Before she could speak, Shaoyao leaned in with a trembling voice, “Princess, the young lady also sent a box to Concubine Ren.”
Qi Wangfei: ??!!
