Chapter 390: Reaping What You Sow (1)

Before reaching the main hall, Mo Yan heard a commotion from inside. She hurried in to find not only Li Yan but also about a dozen disheveled villagers. Seeing their sorry state, her heart sank a bit, and she gave Li Xiu a questioning look.

Li Xiu shook her head in shame, indicating she hadn't figured out what had happened.

When the villagers saw Mo Yan, their eyes lit up. One of them rushed forward, rolling up his sleeve to reveal a bloody wound. Angrily, he said, "Yan girl, your dog bit me. I don't know if I have rabies now. Tonight, you must give me an explanation."

With one person taking the lead, the others quickly chimed in:

"Yes, we were all bitten by your dog. You must give us an explanation!"

"That's right, the dog is yours. You can't deny it!"

A somewhat dazed Wang Dali seemed to regain some clarity but was too injured to stand. He glared venomously at Mo Yan, growling, "If my leg can't be saved, I'll take a piece of your Mo family even if it costs me my life."

Mo Yan, unfazed by Wang Dali's threat, didn't even glance at him. She swept her cold gaze over the faces of the villagers, finally landing on the first person who spoke. "You say my dog bit you. Do you have any proof?"

The man's face flashed with panic, but he pointed at Mo Yan and blustered, "It was your dog! We were all injured; we can all testify it was your dog that went mad and attacked us. Don't think you can shirk responsibility."

"That's right!" The other villagers quickly showed their arms or legs, revealing gruesome wounds.

Mo Yan's gaze lingered on each wound. She was increasingly sure that Xiao Hua was not the culprit. Coldly, she stared at the loudest complainers and sneered, "Oh? Then tell me, in the middle of the night, where did my dog bite you, and how did it manage to attack a dozen burly men like you?"

The dozen men exchanged glances, unsure how to respond, and looked toward Wang Dali in unison.

Seeing this, Mo Yan watched Wang Dali, who was slumped in a chair like a beaten dog, with a playful look, curious about what he would say.

Whether from pain or anger at Mo Yan's refusal to acknowledge the situation, Wang Dali was breathing heavily and pointed at Mo Yan, cursing, "You wretched girl, don't think you can weasel out of this. Your dog even dares to hunt wild boar, so what's the big deal about injuring us? Even if you argue till dawn, you must take responsibility tonight. Hand over the money to compensate us and immediately get the best doctor to treat our injuries, or else don't blame us for being rude!"

"Rude?" Mo Yan's lips curled into a mocking smile, her eyes filled with disdain. "Not to mention the bites, even those deep claw marks are not something a dog's claws could make. If you insist on blaming Xiao Hua, we'll wait for him to return and see how his paws, supposedly like a cat's, could scratch you all like this."

The claw marks were too deep and narrow; anyone could tell they weren't made by a dog. Even if Xiaohua were a wolf, his claws weren't sharp enough to tear through thick cotton clothing and gouge out flesh.

For a moment, she thought it might have been Mao Tuan, but Mao Tuan was still young and not very brave, with limited destructive power. She suspected these people had ventured into the mountains late at night and encountered a fully grown tiger.

Other than a tiger, she couldn't think of any other beast in Yuhua Mountain capable of inflicting such injuries.
