Chapter 217: Stimulation - Rebirth of the Noble Daughter
Chapter 217: Stimulation
Feng Jinyao continued to soothe Ding Dong, saying, “The mishap with Ding Dong is due to my failure to discipline Chilin properly. You should rest for now. I’ll speak to Bai Mama and let her know that you can resume your duties once you’ve recovered.”
“Thank you, Miss. However, my injuries are not too serious. A day or two of rest should suffice. With the current shortage of staff in the madam’s courtyard, I’m unsure when Sister Amber and the others will return. It’s been a long time since they went to the manor.”
Upon hearing the name 'Amber,' Feng Jinyao’s smile grew more genuine and warm.
“There’s a lot of work at the manor, so it’s good for her to assist there. She should be back in a few days. Have you been particularly close with her?”
“Sister Amber has always been very considerate to us new maids, so I’ve been worried about her. I hope the Miss will forgive me.”
“It’s fine. We all serve the madam, and Amber’s help is ultimately for her benefit. I will reward her appropriately when she returns.”
Ding Dong was pleased by this and felt that she had earned Amber some favor. She expressed her gratitude to Feng Jinyao.
Feng Jinyao, too, was happy with the outcome.
Once outside Yunhai Courtyard, her smile vanished instantly. “Have Huanhuan come here and keep a close watch on Ding Dong. She must not be allowed to send any messages. Also, ensure that the courtyard is securely guarded. Tell Bai Mama’s son to have Ding Dong’s parents bound and brought here without alerting anyone else. Furthermore, no servant or maid is to leave the premises until Mother and Bai Mama return. If anyone is found missing when they return, execute them on the spot.”
Her tone was cold and stern, causing Yunxu to feel a chill. However, she understood that showing any weakness at this moment could jeopardize the Miss’s plans. She hardened her resolve and promptly issued the orders.
When Madam Feng returned home, she was taken directly to Ning'an Courtyard.
Assuming something significant had occurred, she was surprised to find Ding Dong captured.
“Has the Miss discovered the traitor who poisoned the madam?”
“Yes, it’s highly likely.”
As they scattered the powder on the ground, Lamei, who was holding Chilin, saw the fox that had previously calmed down suddenly become aggressive again. It lunged at the powder, scratching the carpet fiercely. This startled Madam Feng and Bai Mama.
“Ah Yao, what’s going on?”
“This powder was brought back by Yunxu from uncle Shou. It’s made from Qingyan flowers, which were used to poison my mother. Even a small amount can incite Chilin to act aggressively. Today, Ding Dong was scratched by Chilin in the madam’s courtyard.”
“Ding Dong?”
Bai Mama was more shocked than anyone. She had thoroughly searched the courtyard and thought that the spies led by Amber were all confined to the manor. She had not expected there to be any remaining!
Her usually gentle face now looked as fierce as a judge of the underworld. She said angrily, “These reckless, lowly creatures dare to harm the madam. Miss, is she already imprisoned? I’ll deal with her myself. If we don’t kill her, people will think our family is soft!”
Madam Feng had never seen Bai Mama so fierce. She gently patted her shoulder.
“Bai Mama, you’re getting older. Don’t let these insignificant matters trouble you.”
“Madam, I’m truly ashamed. To have such a big problem among a group of twenty or thirty people, I don’t deserve to face you.”
As Bai Mama was about to kneel and apologize, Yunxu quickly helped her up.
Feng Jinyao comforted her, “Bai Mama, don’t be distressed. It was an unfortunate accident that Chilin uncovered the truth. I’ve already had all the people in the back courtyard guarded. Once Amber returns, Chilin will be able to identify the culprits.”
The external appearance can be changed, identities can be concealed, and the past can be erased, but no one can escape their scent.
“Indeed, Miss! This time I want to see which bold individuals dare to act so recklessly!”
Bai Mama spoke with indignation, and if there had been a weapon in front of her, she might have personally executed Ding Dong!
The group, brimming with righteous anger, headed towards Yunhai Courtyard. Poor Ding Dong, still lost in her dreams during the day, was seized by fierce maids, dragged into the courtyard, and before she could speak, was slapped several times, making her see stars.
“Gag this lowly maid, bind her, and throw her aside. Deal with her and the rest of the traitors later!”
Bai Mama was swift and decisive. Over the years, she had strictly managed the servants. The maids quickly followed orders, and Ding Dong was gagged and bound, unable to move as she was pressed to the ground.
She had no idea what had gone wrong and why everything had erupted so suddenly.
Recalling Third Miss’s actions, Ding Dong suddenly realized her mistake, but it was too late for regret.
Feng Jinyao felt someone watching her and knew immediately it was Ding Dong. She turned to her and said softly, “If you have the courage to betray your master, you should know the consequences will not be pleasant.”
Her gaze was icy, and although the weather was warming up in February, Ding Dong felt as if she had fallen into an icy pit.
Soon, all the household servants were gathered in Yunhai Courtyard, and Ding Dong’s parents, who had been captured earlier, were brought by Bai Mama’s son.
“Bai Deng, are these the two?”
“Yes, Madam and Miss. These are Ding Dong’s parents. This is Old Fu, and this is Fu Li Shi.”
From their appearance, the couple seemed very simple and honest, and their status was clean, otherwise Bai Mama would have discovered them earlier.
Feng Jinyao glanced at Lamei, who gently placed Chilin down. All eyes were on the fox.
Chilin remained still for a while before its fur bristled, and it lunged at the two people.
In no time, their hands were scratched, bleeding profusely.
Ding Dong immediately understood her mistake but regretted it too late.
The servants were shocked, unsure why the usually kind master was now allowing the beast to harm people so viciously. They were uneasy but dared not show it.
“Chilin, check if there are any other accomplices.”
Feng Jinyao knelt down and spoke to the fox. It seemed almost clairvoyant, nodding and running towards the servants. It sniffed each one.
After a stick of incense had passed, Chilin returned to Feng Jinyao’s arms, shaking its head to indicate no other discoveries.
