Chapter 371: Revealing the Truth About His Background - Yun Zhao Recognizes His Parentage (1)
Facing the two little children of the same age and height before him, Mo Qingze was deep in thought.
Zhen'er was inherently smart and capable of inferring from one instance to another. However, she was also lively and had her own ideas. While she was still young and under his and Yan'er's care, they could restrain her somewhat. But in the future, when she would enter school without someone constantly reminding her, she might go astray.
Zhao'er was also good, with aptitude and comprehension not inferior to Zhen'er's. Although he seemed lively, his mind was steadfast, not easily swayed by external things. If he could watch over Zhen'er, Mo Qingze would be more at ease.
However, having this child live in his house was already awkward enough. If he brought it up rashly, the child might overthink, believing himself to be seen as Zhen'er's little follower. Over time, resentment might grow, which would be bad for both him and Zhen'er.
He needed to find a way to put Zhao'er and Zhen'er on equal footing, fostering a true sibling bond so they could support each other in the future.
After much consideration, Mo Qingze thought it was a good idea to recognize Yun Zhao as his godson. This way, he and Zhen'er would become officially recognized brothers, allowing Zhao'er to keep an eye on him. Mo Qingze genuinely liked the child, treating him as his own, and planned to nurture him with the same care as Zhen'er.
With this in mind, Mo Qingze observed Yun Zhao closely, becoming increasingly satisfied and more determined to make him his godson.
Being stared at like this made Yun Zhao feel a bit nervous, despite his calm appearance. He was afraid of making a wrong impression, causing Mo Qingze to dislike them and kick them out.
During his stay at the Mo family, he felt the warmth of family affection again. This Uncle Mo was completely different from his unfeeling and unkind father.
Though both had lost their spouses, Uncle Mo managed not to remarry and loved his children dearly—something his scoundrel father could never do.
Seeing his friend constantly peeking into the kitchen, Yun Zhao felt envious. Even without a mother, he grew up carefree, under the love and protection of his father and sisters, just like most children his age. Sometimes, Yun Zhao couldn't help but wonder if he had such a father, he would endure any hardship gladly.
However, fate had not given him a kind father or good sisters. As his mother's eldest son, he had to grow up to be a man who could shield his sister from hardships and let her grow up without worries.
Each lost in their thoughts, the old and the young had surprisingly similar feelings.
Mo Qingze looked kindly at Yun Zhao, who was getting a bit nervous under his gaze, and gently asked, "Zhao'er, would you be willing to become my godson?"
Godson? Yun Zhao stared at Mo Qingze in disbelief. Could it be that heaven heard his prayers and was compensating him with a kind godfather?
Zhen'er, who was beside them, was also stunned. He blinked, looking between his father and his shocked friend, feeling neither displeased nor envious, but rather expectant.
Seeing Yun Zhao neither speak nor refuse, Mo Qingze thought he was unwilling and feared being driven away. He smiled and said, "If Zhao'er is unwilling, just pretend I never said anything. I won't..."
"No!" Yun Zhao suddenly interrupted, "Zhao'er is willing!"
With that, he knelt down with a thud, bowing three times, then looked up solemnly and called out, "Godfather!"
This unexpected act stunned Mo Qingze, who had lived for decades. Regaining his senses, he quickly helped Yun Zhao up, patting his still weak shoulders and laughed heartily, "Good, good, from today on, I have another good son!"
