Chapter 374: Revealing the Truth About His Background - Yun Zhao Recognizes His Parentage (4)

At that time, Yun Zhao's father had already secured his position as the head of the household. Frustrated by his lack of progress in his official career, he grew increasingly displeased with his wife. Ultimately, disregarding her having borne him a son and a daughter, he heartlessly orchestrated her "illness" and death, and remarried his current wife, Lady Song.

Lady Song was not a magnanimous person. Seeing that her husband didn't care much for Yun Zhao and his sister, she plotted to undermine them. Her schemes intensified after she became pregnant.

Fortunately, Yun Zhao had a loyal servant left by his mother, who constantly reminded him to stay vigilant. He resisted the temptations sent by Lady Song and, being naturally gifted, excelled in his studies. He became a favorite student at the family academy, where the teachers took special care in educating him. Despite Lady Song’s position as the matriarch, she had no control over the family academy, which was managed by the entire Mu clan.

As Yun Zhao's abilities grew, even his father began to overlook his mother's disgrace and started to show more interest in him. This unsettled Lady Song, who then revealed the truth about his mother’s death to Yun Zhao, hoping to create a rift between father and son.

However, this plan failed. Though Yun Zhao initially intended to confront his father, his loyal servant stopped him, advising him to hide his hatred and focus on his studies. Yun Zhao understood that only by achieving success could he truly seek justice for his mother.

Lady Song, growing increasingly anxious, concocted a plan during the Lantern Festival. She sent men disguised as human traffickers to kidnap the siblings and sell them far away.

Yet, she underestimated the servant's loyalty. The servant fought fiercely and rescued the children from the traffickers. Before dying, the servant repeatedly warned them not to return to the Mu family, as they were no match for Lady Song's schemes at such a young age.

With a heart full of hatred for his father and stepmother, Yun Zhao and his sister hid in the capital to avoid being discovered by the Mu family or Lady Song.

From being a noble young master with a life of luxury, Yun Zhao became a street urchin, stealing buns to survive. Despite these hardships, his spirit remained pure, and his determination grew stronger. Meeting the Mo family ended their fearful, wandering existence.

Mo Yan had already suspected the siblings' background wasn't simple. Now, understanding the full story, she felt even more sympathy for them. It was remarkable that they hadn’t been twisted by their experiences with neglect and cruelty.

Seeing the compassion in Mo Yan’s eyes, the heavy burden on Yun Zhao's heart lightened, though he still hesitated, "Sister Yan, your family has graciously taken us in. I don’t want to cause any trouble. Perhaps it’s best not to acknowledge this parentage."

As soon as he finished speaking, Mo Yan flicked his forehead, feigning anger, "Since my father has decided to accept you as his children, he won't change his mind. You just need to accept being his adopted son and my younger brother!"

Seeing Yun Zhao's expression light up with excitement, she added, "Seeking justice for your mother is your duty as a son. I won’t dissuade you from that. Just remember to consider your sister before you act impulsively."

Yun Zhao's eyes reddened, and he nodded firmly, "Thank you, Sister Yan!"

Mo Yan smiled, ruffling his hair. She didn't say more but felt a twinge of worry inside.

...

Acknowledging their parentage wasn't a trivial matter. A fortunate date had to be chosen, and a grand feast prepared to inform friends and relatives.

Yun Zhao found this too troublesome, considering the ceremony unimportant. Mo Qingze, however, disagreed. Only by holding the recognition ceremony could Yun Zhao and his sister be officially accepted as his children. This would allow their household registration to be transferred to Liuyang Village, preventing any gossip among the villagers about the siblings.
