Chapter 383: Wild Beast Enters the Village to Fight Dogs (Part 2)

In the majority of homes in Liuyang Village, people struggled to even have enough to eat, let alone spare food for feeding dogs. The village dogs were skinny, often licking leftover dishwater or circling around the latrine. The best they could hope for in terms of food were bones without meat on special occasions. Dogs raised this way could only guard a gate; they were truly useless for anything else.

In some households, when there was no money for the New Year, they would sell thin, almost emaciated dogs for a couple of pounds of pork. Most of the dozen or so dogs in the village ended up in their own or others' bellies. It was unimaginable that the Mo family would swindle these dogs for money. Even a three-year-old child wouldn't believe it. Those dozen dogs were worth at most a few hundred wen, and the Mo family didn't lack such things; why would they bear such a reputation?

Seeing Wang Dali unable to respond, the crowd ignored him, and the matter of letting Xiao Hua lead the village dogs for patrol was settled. The villagers began discussing the formation of teams.

Mo Qingze was the only young adult in the Mo family. He was returning to the academy early the next morning, and naturally, the villagers wouldn't delay him for such a small matter. They joked that with Xiao Hua around, she could replace several young men.

Mo Qingze gratefully thanked everyone and didn't insist.

Each household in the village contributed a young adult, totaling 120 people from over a hundred households. They formed six teams with twenty people each. Each night, two teams would patrol in shifts, allowing them to rest half the night and avoid freezing themselves.

Not long after Mo Qingze returned home, households with dogs brought them over, tied together with ropes.

In total, there were thirteen dogs, all skinny local mutts. When Xiao Hua stood before them, the thirteen mutts trembled, legs quivering in unison as they lay flat on the ground, heads buried, bodies shaking like sieves.

The villagers didn't know Xiao Hua was a wolf, but being dogs, how could they not sense the difference with this big fellow?

Immediately afterward, Da Bai and Mao Tuan appeared as if they had arranged it in advance, casting disdainful glances at these local mutts. The mutts were terrified, whimpering and wanting to flee, but their legs wouldn't budge.

The three beasts gave them a contemptuous look, then swaggered away with their noses in the air. Xiao Hua thought about having to spend the next few days with these dogs that lacked any dog-like qualities, feeling as though her entire wolf dignity had been severely compromised. It was distressing!

But Mo Yan didn't care whether Xiao Hua was distressed or not. She grabbed its ear and ordered it to make these dogs behave well. Otherwise, she'd withhold its daily roasted chicken and Spirit Spring water access to the space.

Xiao Hua knew it had done wrong this time. Even without Mo Yan's threat, it would obediently carry out her instructions. Now threatened like this, it naturally put in its utmost effort.

No one knew how Xiao Hua communicated with those dogs so smoothly, but it efficiently rallied these "underlings" and quickly bonded with them. Later, when Mo Yan loosened the ropes, they followed Xiao Hua without running back to their own homes.

In the evening after dinner, the scene at home was spectacular. Originally, there were only three beasts, which hadn't made much of a difference, but now there were thirteen local mutts all sitting neatly on the ground, gazing expectantly at the delicious dishes on the table at a forty-five-degree angle. Drool flowed from their mouths, making everyone embarrassed to eat.

Seeing how eager they were, Mo Yan had to bring out three large unused washbasins, heated the leftover meat broth from the noon banquet, and soaked some leftover rice for them.

As soon as the basins were set down, the thirteen dogs crowded around them eagerly, gulping down the food. It was their first time eating something so delicious, and they wished they could bury their heads in the basin and never come up for air. Fortunately, with Xiao Hua there to suppress them, the dogs didn't fight over the food.
