Chapter 392: Reaping What You Sow (3)
If Yang Bao tries to smooth things over, she’ll have to take matters into her own hands.
Li Yan, having just closed the door, came back and said angrily, "Those people are indeed despicable, especially Wang Dali. He probably still resents us for driving his family away last time. This must be his rotten idea."
Mo Yan stroked her chin, narrowing her eyes. "Those dozen people have suffered greatly. Treating their wounds will cost a lot of money. If this really was Wang Dali's bad idea, the Wang family won’t have any peace for a while."
"Haha, he deserves it! With his nasty mind, it’s about time he got what’s coming to him!" Li Yan said gleefully, hoping the others would take their anger out on Wang Dali and teach him a lesson so he wouldn’t cause more trouble.
Mo Yan smiled and said to the aunt and niece, "Alright, it’s over now. You should go to sleep. I’ll wait here for Xiao Hua and the others to return."
If her earlier guess was right, Xiao Hua and the others must have encountered that big tiger. With Xiao Hua and Da Bai’s combat abilities, they shouldn’t be at a disadvantage, but they were likely to be injured.
The aunt and niece insisted on staying up with Mo Yan to wait.
Mo Yan didn’t push them. Once Li Yan had lit the small brazier, the three of them sat chatting and listening for any sounds outside.
They waited for a long time. It wasn’t until the third rooster crowed that there was a noise at the back gate. Mo Yan quickly stood up, grabbed a windproof lantern, and ran into the yard. She saw, under the snowy night, a dozen dogs each carrying one or two hares trotting in, with Xiao Hua, Da Bai, and Mao Tuan bringing up the rear.
Xiao Hua and Dabai were at the gate, working together to drag a large wild animal into the yard. Even Mao Tuan carried a large furry thing and ran up to Mo Yan, making muffled sounds to show off.
Mo Yan brought the lantern closer and saw that the animal had a pointed snout, a large bushy tail, and sleek, fiery red fur. It was an adult red fox!
"Not bad, not bad, even caught a fox. Mao Tuan, you did great!" Mo Yan praised it generously, feeling very pleased.
She had always worried that Mao Tuan, having grown up with humans, had lost its wild instincts and wouldn’t adapt to life in the wild. But now, seeing it catch a quick and cunning fox, she felt relieved. When spring came and she released it back to the wild, she wouldn’t have to worry about it starving.
Delighted by the praise, Mao Tuan dropped the fox on the ground and kept rubbing its fluffy head against Mo Yan’s leg.
Li Xiu and her niece, seeing how cute it looked, were itching to pet it but knew Mao Tuan’s temper too well to dare. They teased, "So big and still like a child, so clingy!"
Hearing this, Mao Tuan gave the aunt and niece a proud look, then continued to nuzzle Mo Yan, purring happily.
Mo Yan held the lantern and carefully examined Mao Tuan, seeing it was just a bit wet but without any wounds. She was relieved.
Xiao Hua and Da Bai had brought back a much larger prize—a wild boar weighing three to four hundred pounds. The boar’s weight was almost equal to their combined weight, and they must have used all their strength to drag this beast back from the mountain.
Once the boar was completely inside the yard, Xiao Hua and Da Bai panted heavily, their tails drooping as they slowly walked over, clearly exhausted.
However, they weren’t so lucky. Both had several deep gashes on their bodies, confirming Mo Yan’s suspicion that they had encountered the tiger...
