Chapter 346: The Peasant Girl’s Splendid Manor
Chapter 346: Concealing Their Own Intentions (2)
"Mother—" Chen Shanshan stared incredulously at Madam Du, clearly not understanding why Madam Du would defend a country bumpkin.
Madam Du had no intention of explaining to her. Seeing Mo Yan's cold indifference, she felt extremely uncomfortable, as if a large stone was stuck in her heart. She found it difficult to ask the questions she wanted to.
Mo Yan secretly breathed a sigh of relief. But at that moment, Xin'er and Zhen'er jumped off the carriage and ran over. Zhen'er glared angrily at the mother and daughter duo, asking, "Big Sister, did someone bully you?"
Mo Yan was taken aback and instinctively stood in front of the two little ones, shielding their faces. "Big sister is fine! Didn't I tell you not to come down? It's so cold, what if you catch a cold? Hurry back onto the carriage!"
The two little ones had come from behind, and she hadn't noticed. She hoped that this woman who seemed to be Madam Du hadn't seen their faces. Otherwise, one with features so similar to hers and another almost a carbon copy of their father would surely be recognized if she really was Madam Du!
The siblings were unaware of their sister's worries. Seeing her blocking them, they thought she was worried about them being harmed, further confirming their belief that the two women were bullying their sister.
So, both of them unconsciously stepped forward from behind Mo Yan, fully exposing their faces to Madam Du's scrutiny. Mo Yan couldn't stop them in time.
"Why are you bullying my sister?" Xiner's small face tightened as she glared at the mother and daughter, unaware of the impact her own face had on them.
Chen Shanshan widened her eyes, looking at Xin'er as if she had seen a ghost, then glanced at Madame Du, stuttering, "M-mother, this smelly brat, this smelly brat..."
At this moment, Madam Du couldn't hear what her stepdaughter was saying at all. She was shocked and stared at Xin'er for a long time, then stiffly shifted her gaze to Zhen'er's face, her expression full of disbelief. Unconsciously, she reached out to touch their faces.
Seeing her expression, Mo Yan cursed inwardly. She pulled the siblings back behind her, saying sternly, "Listen to your elder sister and quickly get back on the carriage, or she'll be angry."
The two little ones didn't know why their sister was so angry. It was the first time they had seen her speak so seriously, and they felt a little scared. They involuntarily took two steps back.
Zhen'er looked at the mother and daughter with strange expressions, feeling that the older one looked very familiar, but as soon as he thought about how they had teamed up to bully his sister, he didn't feel any pity. So, he bravely spoke up, "Big sister, if someone bullies you, we can't leave!"
Seeing that they didn't listen at a critical moment, Mo Yan was really angry. She slapped Zhen'er on the back and pushed the two of them, "No one is bullying your sister, hurry back onto the carriage."
The slap on the back didn't hurt at all, but Zhen'er was really a little sad. Seeing his sister's serious face and her low spirits, he turned around without saying a word and climbed back onto the carriage.
Xin'er didn't dare say anything, obediently followed up, but before entering the carriage, she turned her head again. She happened to meet Madam Du's complex expression. A strange feeling crossed her mind, and she quickly shook her head to withdraw her gaze and sat inside the carriage.
It wasn't until the two children were on the carriage and out of sight that Madam Du slowly withdrew her gaze, looking towards Mo Yan again with even more eager eyes, making Mo Yan feel somewhat creepy.
"Alright, alright, the carriages are separated!"
Just then, the two carriages were successfully separated, and Mo Yan felt relieved, quickly thanking the passersby who helped. Compared to Chen Shanshan's unreasonable behavior, everyone had a good impression of her, politely waving their hands before dispersing.
