Chapter 187: Misunderstanding - Rebirth of the Noble Daughter

Chapter 187: Misunderstanding

How could this be?

Could it be a debt of affection?

But wasn’t the Second Young Master always known for his self-restraint? How could he have provoked this person?

“Hmph, don’t think about climbing up the social ladder. Our Second Young Master is betrothed to the Bai family’s eldest daughter. You, girl, should stop trying to seduce him. If you’re looking for trouble, you’d better leave quickly, or you’ll waste my breath!”

Feng Jinyao, furious, found that her cousin's whereabouts were still unknown. The delay had already cost her precious time. If she couldn't find Xiao Mu Qian, she would have to search for him herself. But since she had rarely left the Eastern Capital, how could she possibly find him?

She struck the red copper nail on the gate of the Prince Kang’s mansion with her whip, leaving a deep white mark, and spoke with a cold tone, “I’ll ask you one more time. Where is the Second Young Master?”

Her anger was on the edge. If this person still didn’t understand, she wouldn’t hold back!

The gatekeeper was startled by her whip and, his speech becoming hesitant, pointed at Feng Jinyao with a changing expression, shouting, “Brothers, someone is trying to break into the Prince’s mansion!”

Soon, guards carrying swords emerged, their faces stern. Though they were somewhat surprised to see a young girl, they didn’t dare underestimate her imposing presence.

Meanwhile, the hidden guards stationed at the gate quickly climbed over the wall into Xiao’s residence, heading straight for Xiao Mu Qian’s courtyard.

Inside, Su Cheng was discussing Lu Yuanfeng’s situation with Xiao Mu Qian.

“I don’t know the details, but this fellow’s intentions towards Miss Bai don’t seem pure, and he’s involved with the Wei family. I’m worried this might affect your military campaign, so I came to tell you. You should find a chance to clarify things with Miss Bai.”

Su Cheng spoke seriously. He had been asked by Ah Yao to investigate, but didn’t expect it to involve the Wei family. It was better to be cautious.

Xiao Mu Qian, standing with his hands behind his back and his brow furrowed, was holding the safety talisman Bai Siruo had sent him the previous day.

He was aware of Bai Siruo’s feelings. Although their engagement was arranged by their parents, they had developed some mutual affection through their interactions.

Who could tolerate someone coveting his fiancee?

As he pondered his course of action, he heard the commotion from outside.

As the deputy leader, Su Cheng was well aware of the actions and signals of his subordinates. This guard was supposed to be stationed outside the mansion, so why was he inside?

“What’s going on?”

“Miss Feng San is causing a scene outside with the guards.”

“What?”

Su Cheng was surprised. He had never heard of Feng Jinyao being involved in a fight. Why was she clashing with the guards?

Dragging Xiao Mu Qian outside, he complained, “Your household’s gatekeeper is blind! If Ah Yao gets hurt, you’ll have to deal with a line of people looking for trouble!”

First was Feng Jinlin, who was fiercely protective, then Bai Siruo, and considering the prince’s methods, Su Cheng couldn’t help but feel a pang of sympathy for Xiao Mu Qian.

Outside, the guards looked at Feng Jinyao’s serious expression and didn’t rush forward. Instead, one of them said, “Who exactly are you? Why are you causing trouble at the Prince Kang’s mansion?”

“That's irrelevant.” She didn’t have time to explain. If she couldn’t find Xiao Mu Qian, she would have to leave immediately. She had already wasted half the day, so she spurred her horse to leave.

But to the guards, this was a provocation. Leaving a mark on the gate and then trying to escape?

If she really got away, the Prince Kang’s mansion would lose face!

“Stop!” The lead guard stepped forward to kick her off the horse. The hidden guard, poised to intervene, was unexpectedly kicked by Yang Zhao, who happened to be passing by. He fell to the ground in pain, searching for his teeth.

“The Prince is here. How dare you be so reckless?”

Few people in the Eastern Capital had seen the Ding Wang Ye, but many recognized Yang Zhao.

The eight black iron horses and the dazzling sign on the carriage with the character 'Ding' indicated that this was not someone to be trifled with.

The scene quickly quieted down and the injured guard dared not make another move.

Feng Jinyao didn’t have time to think about this. All she knew was that if she delayed further, her cousin might be killed or dishonored. She apologized to Yang Zhao, “Please forgive me. There is an urgent matter at home, and I must leave. I will come to apologize properly another day.” With that, she urged her horse to leave.

At that moment, Su Cheng and Xiao Mu Qian hurried out from inside.

“Ah Yao!”

“Brother Su.”

“What are you doing here?”

“My cousin was kidnapped by someone named Lu, and her whereabouts are currently unknown. I had my aunt ask Uncle Lin to seal the city gates, but I’m afraid they may have already left. I first went to the Su residence to look for you but didn’t find you, so I came here to find my cousin’s fiancee.”

This was the first time Feng Jinyao referred to Xiao Mu Qian as her cousin’s fiancee, both to clarify her relationship and to hope that Xiao Mu Qian would act quickly due to their kinship.

“You say Bai Siruo was kidnapped by Lu Yuanfeng?”

Xiao Mu Qian, usually gentle, was now fierce and intimidating. This sudden display of anger startled Feng Jinyao, who had never seen such a bloodthirsty expression even from her own family.

Suppressing her fear, she nodded, “It’s been about an hour and a half since my cousin was kidnapped. The gatekeeper at Bai’s residence said they headed west, but he wasn’t sure if they would change direction!”

Without saying a word, Xiao Mu Qian whistled, and his trusted horse, Jifeng, leaped from the stable and charged towards the front gate. Xiao Mu Qian mounted the horse and raced westward.

Su Cheng, unable to hear the commotion, had to grab a horse from the Ding Wang’s entourage and follow.

Feng Jinyao, apologizing to Yang Zhao, also spurred her horse to follow.

Soon, the three of them disappeared at the end of the street, leaving Yang Zhao and the guards and servants of the Prince Kang’s mansion exchanging glances.

“Prince, should we pursue?”

“No need. Have the hidden guards assist. They’re likely heading either to the Wei family’s estate in the western suburbs or to the village under Lishan. Send people to set up in these two places and capture them if they are spotted.”

“Understood!” Yang Zhao immediately went to issue orders. Meanwhile, in the carriage, Xiao Tingyi, still with a cup of tea steaming beside him, regarded her with rare tenderness.

She was indeed interesting.

At first, he thought she was just a young girl, but her calm eyes seemed to see through people. Her skills in throwing pots, calling off the engagement with the Xu family, rescuing her nephew, and reclaiming the Shou Bo made him see her in a new light.
