**Chapter 167: We Made a Promise**

When the little girl cried, not only did it startle Suisui, but it also caught the attention of several adults.

Upon seeing this, Madam He could no longer hold back her own tears. She hugged He Shuruan tightly, unable to speak, just silently letting the tears flow.

Suisui, watching from the side, felt both helpless and heartbroken. She looked back and forth between He Shuruan and her mother.

Qi Wangfei, worried that Suisui might be scared, gently pulled her closer and softly patted her back. "Don't be afraid, sister is just feeling a bit unwell. She'll be fine after a good cry."

After comforting Suisui, Qi Wangfei sighed lightly and turned her attention to Madam He. "Don't frighten the child. They might only stay for a couple of days and then leave."

Qi Wangfei thought to herself that if Madam Tang was indeed targeting her, then they would likely pack up and leave once the He family departed. She considered heading back to the palace tomorrow to check the situation. However, every family had its own troubles, and each had children to consider.

Qi Wangfei had come to offer incense and pray for Suisui. Even if they had already drawn lots and received good omens, her heart still felt unsettled. If her intentions weren’t sincere, what if the divination turned out to be meaningless?

Madam He also struggled to regain her composure and soon managed to comfort her child, smiling awkwardly. "I’m sorry for worrying you, Princess. I just..."

Understanding the worries of a loving mother, Qi Wangfei gently patted her hand. "It’s okay, try to think positively. Your child is doing well now, and you must take care of yourself too. If you keep yourself so tense, it will only make the child feel worse."

Madam He nodded repeatedly, taking in her words. He Shuruan felt much better after crying for a while. She didn’t want to see her mother sad and gently wiped away Madam He’s tears.

Feeling her daughter’s gesture, Madam He almost broke down again but fought to maintain her composure.

After some calming words and gentle reassurances, Suisui and He Shuruan sat back together to enjoy their tea.

The physician that Madam He brought along was waiting outside. They needed to confirm whether today’s treats were suitable for He Shuruan to consume.

"The five-spice cake is a no-go; it contains ginseng, which is too much for the second young lady's constitution," the physician stated.

"The tea can be sampled in small amounts, but no more than half a cup."

...

If the five-spice cake was off the table, then items like candied plums and mountain hawthorn strips were likely prohibited too.

He Shuruan had gotten used to this over the years; many things she didn’t taste or eat, so she didn’t miss them much. Today, being allowed to have half a cup of tea made her very happy.

Though her eyes were still a bit red, it didn’t detract from her bright smile. "Suisui, I can drink tea now!"

It was clear that she was genuinely delighted.

She held the teacup tightly, not wanting to put it down, smelling it repeatedly, savoring the moment before taking a sip.

With only half a cup, she wanted to take her time, enjoying it sip by sip.

Suisui understood that sometimes, when one’s health wasn’t good, certain things had to be avoided. For instance, when she had a stomach ache before, Physician Liu had also restricted her diet.

Hearing He Shuruan ’s words, Suisui nodded earnestly. "It’s okay if you can’t drink now; when sister is better, we can eat everything! At that time, Suisui will treat you to tea!"

When you get better.

The child's blessing was simple and sincere.

Madam He felt her eyes welling up again. She thought that if her daughter could stand firm in the future, she would surely provide Suisui with a solid foundation, allowing her to have more confidence whether she got married or pursued other endeavors!

He Shuruan wasn’t sure about her own health, but Suisui's words were full of hope and good wishes.

So, she nodded earnestly. "It’s a promise, Suisui. You mustn't go back on your word!"

Suisui imitated her sister and put on a serious expression, nodding her head. "Of course, good children can’t lie!"

Suisui felt that she now had some money herself and could afford to treat her sister to a cup of tea. So she nodded bravely!

However, after agreeing, she couldn't help but glance at her mother with a tinge of anxiety.

Qi Wangfei was amused by the little girl’s adorable demeanor. She gently reached out to touch Suisui's ear and smiled. "Suisui, remember to keep your promise. When the time comes, remember to ask the steward for some funds."

As children grow older, they can receive a small allowance from the steward each month.

Although the amount isn’t substantial, no one said she couldn’t supplement her sister's treat!

While they were having a good time, on the other side, Madam Tang was having a rough day.

First, Tang Lingheng had mischievously tossed a green snake into the air.

Tang Youqing was so frightened that she screamed and tried to dodge, eventually fainting from shock.

Once the snake was freed from Tang Lingheng's grip, it scurried off in panic, darting here and there.

With so many people around, even the snake was frightened!

There was no other choice; they had to call the young monks for help to catch the snake.

The monks, having just dug up wild vegetables and ready to prepare a meal in the back yard, found themselves facing this unexpected task.

But they had no choice; the snake had to be caught.

In the meantime, Tang Lingheng found it amusing and climbed onto the roof, causing a ruckus.

Madam Tang’s voice grew hoarse from pleading with him to come down, but he refused to budge.

Finally, she became dizzy and had to pinch her acupressure point to avoid fainting.

As the monks finally brought a ladder to climb up to the roof, Tang Lingheng, having lost feeling in his leg, fell directly to the ground.

Witnessing this scene, Madam Tang couldn’t take it anymore; she fainted with a roll of her eyes.

As the sun began to set, Qi Wangfei and Madam He agreed to go to the dining hall together for a meal.

Initially, they thought they might run into Madam Tang on the way.

However, even after reaching the dining hall, finding a seat, and eating halfway through the meal, there was still no sign of Madam Tang and her party.

Qi Wangfei was puzzled, and so was Madam He.

In the end, Haitang went out to inquire and returned to inform them of what had happened.

Initially, they hadn’t been aware of the earlier chaos.

And as for the subsequent developments, they were even less informed.

Haitang lowered her voice and carefully recounted the events. By the end, she pointed down the mountain. "They say Fifth Young Master fell and hurt his leg; Madam Tang took him down the mountain for treatment."

Whether it was broken or not, no one could say for sure.

The doctor at the temple had checked him and said there was no major issue. However, since most of the monks were barefoot doctors, their medical skills were a bit crude.

For a more thorough examination, it was advisable for Madam Tang to return to the city.

Since the situation wasn’t urgent, they had given Tang Lingheng some medicine to ease his discomfort. Only then did Madam Tang hurriedly take her people down the mountain.

Upon hearing that they were leaving, Madam He couldn’t help but feel a little relieved, and her expression lightened considerably.

Seeing her like this, Qi Wangfei wanted to laugh but thought it inappropriate at the moment, so she nodded seriously. "Let’s eat first. I’ll send someone to deliver two lamb legs to the Tang family later, saying it’s for Fifth Young Master to recuperate."

As for the earlier incident, since they were unaware, it wasn’t necessary to dwell on it.

But if they did know, they felt they should express something.

However, Qi Wangfei was a bit bothered by what had happened previously.

So, after some thought, she decided that a simple and unadorned gift would outweigh the flashy formalities.
