Chapter 150: Is Xiao Fu Bao Disliked? The Whole City Loves Me With Their Lives
**Chapter 150: Teasing Little Children**
Concubine Ren stood for a while, realizing the atmosphere was not exactly awkward but more subtle and nuanced. When she stayed silent, others also kept quiet, resulting in an overall stillness.
Feeling the unease, Concubine Ren noticed the two little girls standing in a line, occasionally glancing at her and then at the fish swimming in the pond. Smiling, she asked, “Would you like to feed the fish together?”
Two people feeding fish was fine, and three would be too.
Suisui had no objections, but she followed Meng Meng’s lead, so she turned her head to look at Liu Hemeng without speaking.
Liu Hemeng thought that since the concubine had spoken, it wouldn’t be appropriate to refuse. Feeling Suisui’s gaze on her, she quickly squeezed Suisui’s hand, thanked Concubine Ren, and agreed.
Suisui didn’t respond verbally but nodded obediently.
Concubine Ren watched the two small heads bobbing up and down, finding it adorable and itching to touch them.
Suisui was wearing a little hat, but it couldn’t completely hide the fact that she had no hair.
Concubine Ren didn’t ask much, fearing it might be a sensitive issue for the child. Still, the thought of touching that small head felt like it would be fun.
This curiosity led Concubine Ren to take a few extra glances at the children.
Feeling a chill on her head, Suisui quietly hid behind Liu Hemeng.
Concubine Ren led the two children to feed the fish. In truth, she wasn’t very concerned with flowers, plants, or fish. So, when it came time to feed the fish, she didn’t know how much fish food to give.
The servants handed her a bowl of fish food, and after glancing at the pond, she tossed the entire bowl into the water with a splash.
Everyone was stunned: Was she trying to kill the fish?
These fish weren’t even edible. With so much fish food, wouldn’t they get bloated and die?
Despite their shock, no one dared to speak up.
Suisui didn’t understand and clapped her hands in excitement, “Wow, so much!”
Concubine Ren, feeling unsure at first, perked up at the child’s reaction. She proudly straightened her clothes, smiling, “We’re not short on fish food here. It’s okay to feed them more. Bring some more over.”
Everyone was speechless: Someone needs to tell her!
But then again, a few overfed fish wouldn’t be a big problem, right? After all, it was the concubine Ren's doing, not theirs.
Someone hesitantly handed over another bowl of fish food.
Concubine Ren, delighted, tossed it all in again. Watching the fish darting around, she felt pleased with her efforts. “See, they were starving! You should be more diligent when feeding the fish.”
Everyone stayed silent: Or is it possible they just forgot they ate earlier?
But no one dared to say that aloud since Concubine Ren wouldn’t want to hear it anyway.
Liu Hemeng sensed that the fish probably couldn’t handle so much food, but as a child, she had no evidence to back up her feeling, so she kept quiet.
Suisui didn’t understand, and as long as the comments weren’t mean, she nodded in agreement.
When Concubine Ren said the fish were hungry, she nodded. When Concubine Ren fed them, she clapped happily.
Now, when Concubine Ren stated the fish weren’t fed enough and were starving, she nodded again.
Concubine Ren watched the little girl’s head bobbing up and down and couldn’t help but tease, “Suisui, slow down, or your head will fall off and the fish will eat it!”
Suisui’s eyes widened in shock as she looked at Concubine Ren, then quickly covered her head.
Seeing the child’s frightened face turn pale, Concubine Ren couldn’t stop herself from laughing.
Teasing little kids really was fun.
Sadly, one of her sons wasn’t sharp enough to understand teasing, while the other was too clever, making the game less amusing.
Concubine Ren thought she’d lost much of the fun over the years, but now she seemed to be making up for it with Suisui.
No wonder the princess liked this child.
Concubine Ren thought, a fun child is indeed likable.
Caught in the moment, she reached out, initially just intending to touch Suisui’s little hat. However, she couldn’t control herself and flicked Suisui’s forehead.
Suisui froze. Recently, she hadn’t been scolded or felt any malice from the pretty auntie, so she didn’t even react defensively and simply accepted the flick.
After realizing what happened, Suisui, who had been holding the sides of her head, moved her hands to her forehead, her expression puzzled and hurt as if she couldn’t understand why she had been flicked.
Watching the little girl’s confused and pitiful face, Concubine Ren couldn’t stop laughing.
Her laughter was both hearty and graceful, making her seem approachable rather than improper.
Unaware of how approachable she looked, Concubine Ren continued teasing the child, laughing heartily.
Suisui felt wronged, and Liu Hemeng, concerned, checked on her closely.
However, with the way Suisui was holding her head, Liu Hemeng couldn’t scold Concubine Ren and anxiously paced around.
Seeing this, Concubine Ren laughed again. She moved closer to comfort Suisui, patting her shoulder. “Oh dear, I didn’t mean it. Let me see if it left a mark.”
The pretty auntie wanted to check, and although Suisui felt uncertain, she obediently let go.
The child’s innocent and compliant manner made people like her even more, but it also raised concerns about whether she would be too easily bullied in the future.
Still, being a young lady of the royal family under the princess’s protection, she should be alright.
After thinking for a while, Concubine Ren still felt uneasy. She crouched down, looked into Suisui’s eyes, gently rubbing the spot she had flicked, and said with a smile, “Silly girl, if someone bullies you and you can’t fight back, you must remember to run, alright? Otherwise, staying and getting bullied would be very uncomfortable.”
Suisui didn’t sense any malice from Concubine Ren. Hearing her words, she shook her head lightly, “But Auntie didn’t bully me.”
Upon hearing this, Concubine Ren felt both touched and amused.
She thought, children are indeed simple and pure.
But who could say such a child wasn’t lovable?
If she weren’t charming, would Concubine Ren have stayed to play with her this long?
However, it was precisely because Suisui was so endearing that she needed to be warned about the world’s dangers, particularly about discerning people’s intentions.
Thinking this, Concubine Ren patted Suisui’s shoulder lightly, putting on a more serious face, “But the people outside aren’t always kind. Next time someone tries to bully you, remember to run.”
