Following Ye Muyu into the room, Chu Heng casually closed the study door. Since it was already dark outside, he didn't bother opening the windows more than a crack.
Ye Muyu sat down on the edge of the bed. Seeing Chu Heng walk in, she suddenly realized how remarkable his presence was, making even a simple mud-brick room feel inadequate for him.
Realizing what she was thinking, Ye Muyu quickly shook her head. That wasn't the most important thing right now.
"I am Ye Muyu, not Ye Yunlan. Do you really understand this?" Ye Muyu took a deep breath and asked the question that was foremost on her mind.
Chu Heng didn't hesitate at all. He pulled over a stool, sat down opposite to Ye Muyu, and reached out to hold her hand, trapping her legs between his own.
His eyes were warm. "Of course, I know who I like and I can distinguish it clearly."
Although it wasn't the first time he had said the word 'like,' Ye Muyu's heart still couldn't help but skip a beat, especially when she felt his dark eyes seemingly drowning her, causing her heartbeat to accelerate.
Ye Muyu quickly bit her lip to regain her composure and continued, "Alright, then I have another question. When did you start liking me? Why do you like me?"
As she quickly asked this question, Ye Muyu felt a nervousness she hadn't even noticed herself. Her cat-like translucent eyes contracted slightly, concealing her anxiety.
Chu Heng's expression became very serious. "As I mentioned before, ever since you changed, I have been paying attention to you... When I realized I liked you, it was when you fell into the water and didn't wake up."
As he spoke, he suddenly remembered the time he personally fed medicine to Ah Yu with his mouth, and the sound of his heartbeat in his chest that he couldn't ignore. He was always a straightforward person. Since he had developed feelings, how could he pretend they didn't exist?
Chu Heng instinctively tightened his grip on Ye Muyu's hand. Her soft, delicate hand made him never want to let go. The more their skin touched, the more unsatisfied he felt as if he wanted to pull her into his arms completely.
But he restrained himself. Chu Heng took a deep breath and stopped his impulse, his eyes becoming somewhat red.
He suddenly looked up and smiled faintly. "As for why I like you, maybe it's because I feel happy when I see you and I want to keep you by my side forever. This desire, I think is probably what love is."
Ye Muyu's face instantly turned red.
Especially when she saw Chu Heng's increasingly penetrating gaze which was dominant yet filled with irresistible tenderness and affection, it felt like his eyes wanted to devour her whole.
Ye Muyu felt a little panicked and quickly withdrew her hand. She took off her shoes and retreated several steps back onto the bed, making sure Chu Heng couldn't reach her before heaving a sigh of relief.
She... she had never been this intimate with anyone before.
Her body subconsciously tensed up, her fingers curling slightly at her side, and her cheeks flushed so much she dared not lift her head.
"Ah Yu, do you feel the same way about me? Do you want me to be by your side all the time?" Chu Heng didn't know when he had climbed onto the bed, his hands supporting himself beside Ye Muyu, leaning close to her curled-up form on the bed.
Ye Muyu heard his voice so close and quickly raised her head, only to find Chu Heng already within arm's reach.
She quickly suppressed her rapidly beating heart and stuttered, "Y-you, don't come closer."
Chu Heng suddenly laughed, especially when he saw the rare look of panic and shyness on Ah Yu's usually calm and composed face. He felt like he couldn't get enough of it. It seemed his gentle approach had been wrong. Otherwise, why hadn't there been any progress for two months, yet today he could see a completely different Ah Yu?
