Seeing him agree so quickly, Ye Muyu couldn't help but give him a sideways glance.
"What's wrong? Ah Yu, don't you believe me?" Chu Heng saw her sneak a glance and became even more delighted.
Ye Muyu quickly averted her gaze, feeling that this man always liked to set traps for her, so naturally, she didn't want to go along with his words.
But Chu Heng wouldn't let her off so easily. He leaned close to her ear and said, "If Ah Yu doesn't believe me, then touch my heart and see if it's true."
"Don't talk nonsense. I believe you," Ye Muyu nodded and pushed him away, trying to appear serious.
Chu Heng, however, noticed her slightly blushing ears and thought about the two children in the carriage, feeling that it was somewhat inconvenient to continue teasing her. So, he stopped.
Seeing him quiet down, Ye Muyu felt a slight sense of relief.
"So, has my big brother not tried to recover his memories during the three or four years he spent in the army?" Ye Muyu felt that there was a problem here. Ye Zhao went to the army as a conscript which means that the army must have his identity records. In theory, Ye Zhao only needed to ask ,and someone would tell him.
Thinking like this, Ye Muyu asked her question.
Chu Heng didn't hide it from her either. "Before your big brother returned, the identity files of those soldiers in the army were accidentally burned in a fire. The surviving personnel gradually supplemented the information later. After your big brother returned, he suffered from amnesia and the fellow villagers who went with him either died or returned home."
"And after your big brother went there, he didn't have time to get to know other people before being sent out to serve as a placeholder. This means that the soldiers and the deputy general who were with him didn't know his background, they only knew him as a new recruit."
Ye Muyu frowned. "How could it be so coincidental? Wouldn't there be someone who knows about it?"
"Whether it was an accident or intentional, after your big brother was highly regarded, he himself didn't want to bring it up, so no one cared anymore."
"In other words, if my big brother really wanted to come back, he just needed to ask the general and he could check the information of the missing persons listed by the counties in the army. But obviously, with the analysis of the information available now, Ye Zhao is not willing to come back.
Chu Heng reached out and smoothed her brow, comforting her. "Whatever Ye Zhao's thoughts are, the fact that he's willing to come back now means that he's made the decision to face his family."
"Maybe he thought that he would recover his memory soon and didn't want to waste the favors he earned in the army on finding his family. He might have wanted to help his family more after he got promoted and remembered everything. I can barely understand Ye Zhao's thoughts. After all, anyone would find it difficult to refuse the opportunity to build military merits and get promoted when it's presented to them."
Ye Muyu frowned. "Do you think the same way?"
Chu Heng hugged Ye Muyu directly and kissed her nose. "I'm not him. In my heart, you are the most important. Military merits are just that, what's the big deal if I give up once?"
Ye Muyu was somewhat shaken in her heart, and when she looked up, she saw the sincerity in his dark eyes, and she suddenly believed what he said.
"I wonder what Mother and Big Sister-in-law would think if they knew." Ye Muyu whispered softly.
