Chapter 276: The Peasant Girl’s Splendid Manor

Chapter 276: A Farce of Buying a Shop (Part 5)

Yao Taohua was dumbfounded. She stared at him for a while, then grabbed his hand anxiously and said, "Husband, I was just kidding. I just wanted to provoke you into doing something about our business. How could I leave when our family is in such a difficult situation?"

Hearing this, Zhang Ming was somewhat moved. He touched the sleeping child's face and said, "With dad being sick and unable to manage the business, and me not being cut out for it, it's hard for you and our child."

Seeing that he no longer mentioned driving her away, Yao Taohua breathed a sigh of relief, but she looked down even more on this useless man.

At that moment, a middle-aged woman led a child over and pointed to Zhang's rice shop, saying, "Look, this is the place. Listen to mom, don't come here to buy rice in the future. Eating their rice will kill you, you know?"

The child nodded seriously, "I know, mom. The owner of this rice shop sells poisoned rice. I definitely won't come here, and I'll tell others not to come either."

"Yes, that's right."

Yao Taohua, already filled with anger, couldn't bear hearing this conversation.

She pushed the child into Zhang Ming's arms, rushed to the door, and pointed at the middle-aged woman, shouting, "Watch your mouth! If you dare to spread rumors again, I'll shut it for you! If you don't want to buy rice, get away from here, don't dirty my place. Go, get out of here!"

"You shameless woman, who are you cursing!" The middle-aged woman was equally fierce. Being scolded by a younger woman, she retorted, "Everyone on this street knows that your Zhang's rice shop has done despicable things. Even if thunder strikes you, you're still afraid of what others say!"

"You're the shameless one, your whole family is shameless." Yao Taohua was even more furious, her sharp voice drowning out the noise of the street. "Get out of here, all of you, or I'll chase you away with a broom!"

The middle-aged woman wasn't afraid. Standing with her hands on her hips, she said, "Come on, come on, I'm not leaving. I'll keep talking. If you have the guts, come and chase me away with a broom. Otherwise, I'll just stand here!"

Yao Taohua did want to teach the woman a lesson. Incited by her, she looked around for a broom. Unable to find one, she found a wooden stick used for carrying rice in a corner. It was about four feet long and as thick as a calf. She picked up the stick and swung it at the woman.

Her intention was only to scare the woman away, but when she stepped on the steps with one foot and exerted force, she fell forward, losing her grip on the stick, which coincidentally hit the woman's forehead heavily.

"Ah!" The woman screamed in pain, covering her head and falling to the ground.

The child, seeing this, was frightened and hurriedly helped the woman up, crying loudly, "Mom, mom, what's wrong with you? Don't scare me!"

By now, many onlookers had gathered, shocked by the scene unfolding before them. They angrily accused Yao Taohua of being ruthless and committing violence on the street.

The woman was hit quite hard by the stick, feeling dizzy. When the dizziness subsided, she trembled and removed her hand, revealing blood in her palm. A small wound had opened on her forehead, bleeding profusely, staining her face. It looked terrifying.

Seeing this, the child burst into tears in fear. The people around them urged Yao Taohua to quickly take the woman to the doctor's.

"No, it wasn't me, I didn't do it!"

Yao Taohua was also frightened by the blood on the woman's face. Faced with the accusations of the crowd, she panicked and retreated into the shop.
