Chapter 38: Is Xiao Fu Bao Disliked? The Whole City Loves Me With Their Lives
第38ç« : Nine-Link Puzzle
Hearing Feng Xuanrui’s words, Suisui felt a bit anxious. “Is it… very precious, Brother?”
After asking, she added in a small voice, “I’ll repay Auntie when I grow up.”
Feng Xuanrui didn’t think the gift was particularly extravagant. Seeing his sister’s unease, he shook his head. “The intention is good; the rest is just average. We can talk about repaying later.”
Originally, Feng Xuanrui wanted to say: You’re my sister, no need to worry about repayment.
Their gift-giving wasn’t just because you’re adorable.
However, he swallowed these words. Such matters were too complex; it was better not to burden his sister with them.
Feng Xuanrui thought Suisui’s eyes were clean and bright, and he wanted to protect that brightness.
With his brother’s reassurance, Suisui felt a bit more at ease.
Qingzhou was over seven hundred kilometers from the capital. Traveling with two children, their carriage moved slowly, taking about ten days.
Since they were on their way home, there was no rush. The journey was slower than when they had come, but it was still quite exhausting.
By the time they reached a small town in Qingzhou by evening, Feng Xuanrui felt sore all over. Suisui was equally jostled.
That night, they hadn’t yet left Qingzhou’s territory. They stayed in a small town under Qingzhou Prefecture for a break. The town wasn’t bustling, and the streets were quite empty in the evening.
They found an inn to settle in. After dinner, both children were sleepy and drowsy. Physician Liu, smiling, took them to their room.
Feng Xuanrui was unwilling to separate from Suisui and insisted on staying with her. Physician Liu called upon the older Qing Shan to help look after the children as they slept.
When Feng Xuanrui insisted on sleeping with Suisui, he was full of energy and enthusiasm. But after freshening up and returning to bed, he spoke no more than five sentences before falling deeply asleep.
Suisui fell asleep even faster. By the time Physician Liu turned around, she was already sleeping soundly and adorably.
The system felt both helpless and heartbroken. Helpless because Suisui missed another bedtime story, and heartbroken because such a young child had to endure the exhaustion of travel.
For Suisui, though, this fatigue brought a unique sense of belonging and security, knowing she hadn’t been left behind!
The next day, with light rain making travel unsuitable, Prince Qing didn’t rush, allowing everyone to rest for a day at the inn.
Physician Liu originally planned to discuss slowing down with Prince Qing because the two children couldn’t handle the strenuous travel. But upon finding out that they would be staying in the town for the day, he cheerfully brought ointment to Suisui.
A few days had passed, and Suisui’s hair had started to grow a light green stubble.
After breakfast, as Physician Liu applied the ointment, he felt Suisui’s scalp and observed the color of the new hair, nodding approvingly. “Not bad, not bad. The new hair will soon be shiny and black.”
Feng Xuanrui, who had been playing with the toys given by Sun Ronglin, was eager to find something to pass the time since they weren’t traveling today. Upon hearing Physician Liu’s words, he eagerly leaned in. “Really? Let me see, let me see.”
He carefully touched the part of Suisui’s head where the medicine hadn’t been applied yet. Feeling a slight prickliness, Feng Xuanrui’s eyes lit up with surprise. “Wow, it’s really growing! Sister, you have hair now!”
Suisui didn’t quite understand what constituted good hair but trusted her brother’s opinion. She happily laughed along with Feng Xuanrui.
In the past few days, with daily brushing of their teeth, Suisui’s teeth had become much whiter. Although her baby teeth hadn’t fallen out yet and were not meticulously cared for, they looked quite nice.
When Suisui smiled, showing a few of her baby teeth, she looked like a sweet little fool who could be easily fooled with a piece of candy.
Seeing his sister like this, Feng Xuanrui felt a bit worried. His sister couldn’t be fooled so easily!
After dinner, they both used the medicine. Feng Xuanrui’s feet had healed, but for better care, Physician Liu advised him not to walk or stand for long periods. Feng Xuanrui, fearing any lingering issues, obediently followed Physician Liu’s advice.
It was rainy and uncomfortable outside, but a day’s rest wasn’t too bad.
Then…
Feng Xuanrui spent the day trying to solve a Nine-Link Puzzle.
