**Chapter 27: Being a Considerate Brother**
In recent days, Prince Qing had been so busy that he barely had time to rest. Finally, with most matters handled, he was able to come back and check on the two children.
As soon as he entered, before he could see anyone, he heard Feng Xuanrui’s enthusiastic voice.
Without waiting for Prince Qing to respond, Feng Xuanrui had already grabbed Suisui’s hand and dashed over.
Seeing this, Prince Qing frowned and stretched out his arms to protect both of them, reminding sternly, “Watch your feet.”
Though Feng Xuanrui’s feet had healed somewhat from not being used for days, Physician Liu had advised that careful attention was still needed to avoid long-term issues.
Prompted by Prince Qing’s reminder, Feng Xuanrui slowed down.
Suisui’s short legs made it hard for her to keep up, and she was now breathing heavily.
Observing this, Prince Qing frowned again, “Your sister is still young; you shouldn’t be pulling her around like this.”
Feng Xuanrui, who had been caught up in his excitement, realized this only when he saw Suisui panting. He smiled apologetically, patting Suisui’s head, “Sorry, sister. I’ll be more careful next time!”
He promised to be a considerate and caring brother.
Suisui didn’t mind at all; being with her brother made her very happy!
So, she gently shook her head in response to Feng Xuanrui’s apology.
Seeing Suisui’s adorable and compliant behavior, Feng Xuanrui couldn’t help but pat her a few more times until Suisui, feeling a bit shy, blushed and looked away.
Children often forget things quickly, and Feng Xuanrui soon became distracted by something else. “Uncle Wang, can we release the river lanterns today?”
Prince Qing checked the weather and, considering that the city was now properly secured and he would be accompanying them, nodded in agreement.
Seeing Prince Qing’s nod, Feng Xuanrui happily twirled Suisui around.
Suisui, just catching her breath, was once again pulled into the excitement.
She didn’t feel tired; rather, she was delighted by Feng Xuanrui’s enthusiasm.
As they prepared to release the river lanterns, dinner needed to be prepared early.
Feng Xuanrui wasn’t very interested in eating and was eager to head out and play.
Physician Liu advised, “The river lanterns look best at night. They’re brighter and have more atmosphere then.”
Feng Xuanrui agreed reluctantly and had a few more spoonfuls of porridge.
In contrast, Suisui’s obedient eating was heartwarming!
Dinner was still meat porridge.
Physician Liu had prepared this to help them adjust, with plans to gradually introduce other foods later.
Especially for Suisui, such a young child, who had never eaten white rice or meat before, it was crucial to adapt properly.
Suisui savored every bite carefully, cherishing each grain of rice, piece of meat, and drop of soup.
Feng Xuanrui, on the other hand, quickly finished his meal and wasn’t interested in eating more.
After dinner, the two children went to get their river lanterns.
Feng Xuanrui had a small pink rabbit lantern.
Suisui’s was a pink and yellow flower lantern.
Since Feng Xuanrui’s legs hadn’t fully healed and Suisui was still young, Prince Qing arranged a carriage to take them there.
There was a river running through the city of Qingzhou, which had not been very secure in recent years due to the river being used by skilled swimmers to enter the city.
Even though the city gates were closed and guarded, it was still challenging to detect those who swam in under the cover of night.
Now that the bandits had been cleared out and security issues addressed, there was no need to worry too much for the time being.
A few days ago, a wealthy family’s daughter had released river lanterns with her friends.
Releasing river lanterns can be for remembering loved ones, making wishes, or warding off evil.
Feng Xuanrui was purely excited about the lively event.
Prince Qing and the others assumed the children wanted to pray for blessings, while Suisui was more focused on letting go of past hardships and hoping for better days ahead.
Regarding Suisui’s future arrangements, Prince Qing had not yet agreed to Physician Liu’s request.
Since Feng Xuanrui liked his sister, Prince Qing planned to take Suisui back to the capital first and see if Feng Xuanrui’s affection continued. If so, he could arrange for Suisui to enter the Prince Qi’s residence.
As for himself...
His precious daughter was irreplaceable, and even though she was no longer here, he wouldn’t let anyone else take her place.
So, he could only regretfully leave this little girl to her fate.
Looking at Suisui’s little bald head, Prince Qing sighed softly.
The group, with the guard Zhan Yuan leading the way, proceeded. Once they reached their destination, the two children dashed forward like wild horses.
Of course, it was mostly Feng Xuanrui leading, and Suisui was being pulled along.
However, Feng Xuanrui would stop frequently.
One reason was that his feet weren’t fully healed, so he didn’t want to overexert himself.
Another reason was that he remembered Suisui was small and couldn’t keep up.
“Sister, over here! The river is wide here!”
