Chapter 77: You Are Not In Exile You Are Clearly Traveling!
Chapter 77 Ambush Preparation
It's unclear how much time had passed, but when Liu Wei woke up, he found himself surrounded by a group of burly men, instinctively curling up in fear.
"Boss, he's a convict from the exile team, just escaped, he must know about the Chen family!" one of the men exclaimed.
Hearing this, Liu Wei perked up, immediately raising his hand and shouting, "I know, I know, I know about the Chen family!"
Clearly, he believed that if he had valuable information, he could use it to save his life.
"Oh?" The leader, brother Hei, raised an eyebrow, surprised by this unexpected gain.
His previous mission to scout the exile team hadn't expected to bring back a convict.
No one knows more about the situation of the exile team than the convicts themselves.
"Tell me about the situation of the exile team," Brother Hei asked, shifting his focus away from information about the Chen family, much to Liu Wei's dismay.
Seeing Liu Wei's lack of response, Brother Hei signaled to one of his men, who promptly stepped forward and stomped on Liu Wei's foot.
With a sharp crack, the bones in his foot shattered, eliciting a cry of pain from Liu Wei as he writhed on the ground, clutching his foot.
The bandits watched with arms crossed, silently observing Liu Wei's agony, even showing signs of amusement.
After a moment, Brother Hei snorted, "If you don't want another broken leg, shut up."
Snap!
His words were followed by the sound of a knife being drawn, as one of the bandits seemed ready to take action.
Liu Wei immediately ceased his cries, but the bulging veins on his forehead betrayed the agony he endured.
"Now, can you talk?" Brother Hei wore an expression that said, "I'll keep hitting until you talk," frightening Liu Wei into speaking.
"Tell me everything you know!" Brother Hei didn't agree or refuse, leaving Liu Wei with a very unpleasant expression.
However, when he saw one of the bandits beginning to sharpen his knife, Liu Wei dared not hesitate any longer. He had only considered bargaining earlier, but now, with his foot broken by these brutal bandits, he knew he had to talk or face certain death.
"About the Chen family...," Liu Wei recounted everything he knew, which wasn't much: Chen's family traveling in a carriage, being well-treated by the bailiffs, and similar details.
"Is this man Chen Yuan?" Suddenly, Brother Hei produced a scroll and unfurled it before Liu Wei's eyes.
Liu Wei was taken aback. How did these bandits have a painting of Chen Yuan? Although curious, he nodded in confirmation.
"By the way, you just said Chen Yuan has a daughter?" Another bandit chimed in with a lecherous grin, clearly intrigued by the prospect.
Liu Wei understood his intentions but knew it was none of his concern. Nevertheless, he nodded and even praised, "She's not just pretty, she's the most beautiful woman I've ever seen."
These words ignited a lustful gleam in the eyes of the bandits.
They continued to ask questions until they were satisfied, only stopping when they had no further inquiries.
Meanwhile, Liu Wei, enduring the pain in his foot, waited eagerly, tentatively asking, "Can I..."
Before he could finish, he felt a sudden pain in his chest. Looking down, he saw a sharp blade protruding from his body, stained with blood.
And then... there was no "then."
Liu Wei fell to the ground, unwilling to accept his fate. He regretted escaping the exile team. If only he had stayed, he might still be alive.
"Dispose of the body, and let's ambush the exile team in the valley ahead," Brother Hei commanded.
"Lao Si, find out more about the situation of the exile team!"
Lao Si, the one who brought Liu Wei back, complied.
"Now, let's discuss our plan! First, we'll take down Chen Yuan, then chop off his head and contact our trading partners."
"What about his daughter?" Lao Si licked his lips, eager for more about Chen Yuan's beautiful daughter.
"If she's truly beautiful, bring her back to enjoy slowly!" Brother Hei smirked, but then quickly composed himself. "The rest of the Chen family will be killed."
"In addition, Lao San, seize the opportunity to collect wealth and belongings from the exile team."
"Brother Hei, what about the bailiffs?" A bandit couldn't help asking.
"Didn't Liu Wei say? The bailiffs must have suffered heavy losses this time and won't be able to resist us. So, when the time comes, we'll take care of them all."
"Will they be more vigilant after this rebellion?" The bandit continued, "And as Lao Si just said, there are soldiers going to suppress the rebellion. Will they escort the exile team?"
"So I'll let Lao Si find out!" Black Brother said. "Usually, they won't, unless the convict is extremely important. Otherwise, they won't bother."
"After the soldiers suppress the rebellion, they'll leave, and the bailiffs, having experienced the revolt, won't expect an ambush, making it the perfect time for us..."
