Chapter 264: The Peasant Girl’s Splendid Manor
Chapter 264: Buying Land and Reclaiming Wasteland - Fooling Xiaohua (Part 1)
Mo Yan looked at the slightly anxious child in front of her and sighed inwardly.
Initially, she helped him for several reasons: to accumulate merit to upgrade her space, because their encounter felt fated, and because he was a young child caring for his little sister—she couldn't bear to ignore him.
After several interactions, she realized that while the child was somewhat clever, he had a good nature. Recommending him to Shopkeeper Xing provided a decent start; even if he didn't achieve great wealth, he could lead a stable life.
However, she hadn’t expected him to be so scheming at such a young age, tricking Zhen'er into agreeing to let him stay at their home.
She vaguely understood that the child didn't come from an ordinary family and could guess his thoughts. He probably felt that working as a servant in the inn wouldn't lead to success, and he couldn’t take revenge on his indifferent father and stepmother. Hence, he sought a different path, aiming to involve Zhen'er, or rather her.
This time, she reluctantly brought him back from Huixian Residence, partly to keep Zhen'er from breaking his promise, and partly due to a bit of selfishness. If the boy was truly capable and could genuinely care for Zhen'er, they could support each other in the future.
But if he continued to harbor calculating thoughts towards Zhen'er, no matter how smart or promising he was, she would definitely expel him from the Mo family.
However, she wouldn’t say these things to him. His future behavior would determine everything.
With these thoughts, Mo Yan's expression softened a bit. She pointed to a nearby chair and said, "Sit down first. If you have something to say, take your time."
Yun Zhao's eyes reddened as he looked up at Mo Yan, "Big sister, Yun Zhao is here to apologize! I shouldn’t have schemed against brother Zhen'er for my own selfish reasons. I’m sorry for betraying his kindness and your efforts."
After speaking, he bowed deeply to Mo Yan.
Mo Yan neither stepped forward to help him up nor hypocritically said she didn’t mind. Instead, she asked, "If you had another chance, would you still scheme against Zhen'er to come to our house?"
Yun Zhao lifted his head, "Yes! But I would directly request it from you, big sister, instead of tricking brother Zhen'er."
His straightforwardness left Mo Yan momentarily speechless. She glanced at Yun Zhao and said calmly, "Let’s consider this matter settled. Don’t dwell on it. After the New Year, I will send Zhen'er to school. You will go too. I’ll pay for the tuition, but it will be a loan you must repay. As for your and your sister’s living expenses, you’ll work them off."
Hearing this, Yun Zhao’s tears finally fell. Feeling embarrassed, he wiped them away with his sleeve and bowed deeply to Mo Yan again, "Big sister, I will never forget your kindness to my sister and me. I will do anything for you in the future, no matter the cost."
"Enough, don’t talk like some wandering hero! Just stay with your sister at our home. If your sister wants to learn anything, let me know. If it's feasible, I won’t deny it."
Mo Yan wasn’t interested in empty promises; she valued real actions.
"Th-thank you, big sister!"
Yun Zhao lowered his head, nodding vigorously, his voice choked with emotion.
"If there's nothing else, go find Grandpa Li. He’ll arrange a place for you and your sister to stay. Let him know if you need anything." Knowing he felt uneasy, Mo Yan pretended to be impatient, urging him to leave.
Yun Zhao wiped his face and quickly left the hall to find his sister.
