Chapter 20: Is Xiao Fu Bao Disliked? The Whole City Loves Me With Their Lives

**Chapter 20: Wanting to Be Sick Instead of Brother**

After Prince Qing and Physician Liu returned, they carefully cleaned up the two children and sent them to bed.

The adults tidied up briefly and had the servants clean up the disheveled inn.

Prince Qing still needed to handle the matter of the mountain bandits, so he couldn't sleep just yet.

Physician Liu had to keep an eye on the two children, worried that they might catch a chill and develop a fever.

In short, while the two children slept soundly, the others couldn't rest for the time being.

The prefect magistrate of Qingzhou, upon hearing the news, scrambled out of bed in the middle of the night and hurried over on horseback to inquire about the situation.

prefect magistrate Sun wasn’t incompetent, but he had no way of dealing with the rampant mountain bandits, so he had reported the matter to the imperial court.

Prince Qing would handle these issues, so Physician Liu didn’t need to worry.

What concerned him now was the possibility of the two children falling ill.

Whether from shock or a cold, it was all too easy for them to get sick.

So, he repeatedly instructed Diao and Dihua, "Be sure to keep an eye on them, and check their foreheads from time to time."

By the time they finished, the sky was almost light.

When everything finally settled down, dawn had already broken.

Physician Liu got up and stretched his old limbs, ready to rest for a bit when Dihua suddenly called out urgently, "Master, the Sixth Young Master has developed a fever!"

Hearing this, Physician Liu rushed over, touched Feng Xuanrui's forehead, and confirmed it was indeed hot.

Worried, he also checked Suisui’s forehead and, finding her temperature normal, sighed with relief.

Physician Liu quickly had Qingshan carry Feng Xuanrui back to his room and lay him down on the soft bed. He then ordered Diao to brew some medicine while instructing Dihua to stay by the boy’s side, using wet cloths to help reduce the fever.

Suisui woke up just before noon, still feeling a bit dazed.

Dihua, who was looking after her, smiled and asked, "Suisui, you're awake! Are you hungry?"

When he asked, Suisui instinctively touched her stomach, which indeed felt empty.

However, instead of asking for food, Suisui looked around for her brother and, not seeing him on the small bed, anxiously asked, "Brother Dihua, where’s my brother?"

As Dihua helped her dress, he softly replied, "The Sixth Young Master is sick, and Master is taking care of him."

Upon hearing that Feng Xuanrui was sick, Suisui grew worried and, without putting on her shoes, tried to run off. "I want to see him!"

Dihua, startled, quickly pulled her back. "Oh no, put your shoes on first! If you get sick too, we’ll all be in trouble!"

Suisui understood that she couldn't get sick, couldn’t cause trouble, and couldn’t be a burden.

So, she hastily put on her shoes and ran off to find her brother.

It took her a while, given her small size and short steps, but she finally arrived at Feng Xuanrui’s room.

He had developed a fever in the morning, taken some medicine that brought it down, but it kept coming back throughout the day.

Physician and the others had been exhausted, dealing with the on-and-off fever all morning.

At that moment, Qingshan was helping with the physical cooling, as Feng Xuanrui’s temperature had risen again.

Feng Xuanrui had woken briefly, groaning in discomfort, unable to eat anything.

But not eating made it difficult for Physician Liu to administer medicine, as he feared it would upset the boy’s stomach.

After coaxing and persuading, they finally managed to get him to drink some porridge.

Having already taken medicine in the morning, they couldn’t give him more just yet, so they relied on physical cooling for now.

When Suisui arrived, she saw Feng Xuanrui’s flushed face from the fever.

The young boy was half-awake, groaning in discomfort.

Seeing this, Suisui’s eyes immediately welled up with tears.

She ran to the side of his bed, tears streaming down her face as she silently stood there, watching her brother.

Physician Liu, busy nearby, quickly reassured her, "It’s nothing serious, just a slight fever. Once he’s taken his medicine and eaten something, he’ll be fine. Don’t worry, Suisui."

Last night, the two children had been in similar condition, and Suisui hadn’t fully recovered from her illness.

But in the end, it was Feng Xuanrui who fell sick.

At first, Physician Liu found it surprising, but after recalling Suisui’s past experiences, he began to understand.

If Suisui’s body wasn’t strong, if her fate wasn’t tough enough, she probably would have died a long time ago.

Thinking of this, he wasn’t sure whether to admire the child or feel sorry for her.

After hearing Physician Liu’s words, Suisui turned her head, tightly pursing her lips to stop herself from crying out loud and scaring her brother.

She held back her tears for a long time before asking in a trembling voice, "Grandpa Liu, is my brother in a lot of pain?"

After asking, she looked down and softly said, "I don’t want my brother to suffer. I wish I could take his place."

Feng Xuanrui, who had just woken up in a daze, immediately objected when he heard this. "How could that be? I’m the big brother; if someone’s going to be in pain, it should be me!"

Hearing her brother’s voice, Suisui’s eyes lit up. She wanted to rush forward but restrained herself, afraid of hurting him, and said excitedly, "Brother! You’re awake?"

Feng Xuanrui, weak from the fever and his injured leg, had little energy. But seeing his sister upset, he mustered the strength to lift his hand and gently touched Suisui’s small, shaved head. "Don’t worry, your brother is as strong as an ox. I’ll be fine!"

The medicine he had taken in the morning was finally starting to take effect.

Feng Xuanrui’s fever gradually subsided, though he still felt weak. Physician Liu checked his pulse carefully and then signaled to Qingshan, "Prepare some porridge for the Sixth Young Master, a warm millet porridge to nourish his stomach."

White rice porridge is slightly cooling, but millet porridge is warm and more nourishing.

Qingshan quickly went to prepare it, while Diao changed the cloth on Feng Xuanrui’s forehead.

Feng Xuanrui, too weak to do much, touched Suisui’s head again before lying back down quietly.

Suisui, still worried, sat obediently beside his bed, her bright, grape-like eyes fixed on her brother, afraid that if she looked away for even a second, he would start suffering again.

Feeling his sister’s gaze, Feng Xuanrui, though exhausted, thought to himself: Having a sister is really nice!

If he were sick back at the manor, his mischievous little brother would only be making trouble like a monkey, not caring about him at all.

After drinking the porridge, Feng Xuanrui drifted back into sleep.

Suisui kept watch for a long time, and when Physician assured her that the fever had subsided and that all she needed to do now was monitor him to prevent a relapse, she finally relaxed.

Children with fevers can have recurring episodes, which can easily harm other parts of the body.

Even though Physician Liu said there was no more danger, Suisui still felt uneasy and wanted to stay by her brother’s side.

But then she remembered her brother had told her that floating river lanterns was for making wishes and bringing blessings, and she wanted to make one for him.

Thinking of this, she looked up and carefully asked Physician Liu, "Grandpa Liu, I want to make a river lantern for my brother. Is that okay?"
