Chapter 124: Knife Wound - Rebirth of the Noble Daughter

Chapter 124: Knife Wound

"Big sister, big sister!"

Madam Bai saw her daughter faint and stumbled forward, nearly twisting her ankle. Madam Wen, upon hearing the news, also collapsed onto a chair in shock. Bai Lin was busy trying to comfort both of them, frantically running back and forth.

When Feng Jinyao first heard the news, her mind went blank.

How could this be? Didn't father stay back from his post? Could everything be happening ahead of schedule?

Remembering the tragic death of her father in her past life, her vision darkened. If not for Bai Siruo holding her up, she might have fallen to the ground.

"Ah Yao... Ah Yao..."

The urgent voice snapped Feng Jinyao back to her senses. No, she couldn't collapse. She had to save her father first!
Suppressing her panic, she addressed Bai Lin, "Aunt, please take care of things here. I need to check on my father!"

Bai Lin, overwhelmed but seasoned from years of managing the household, nodded firmly, "Go, I'll handle things here."

Accompanied by Bai Siruo, Feng Jinyao rushed to the main courtyard. They found Feng Hai pale and drenched in sweat, with Feng Jinxu pressing hard on his wound to prevent excessive bleeding.

"Father!"

"Ah Yao? Why are you here?"

His voice was weak and urgent, and as he spoke, the movement aggravated his wound, causing him to gasp in pain.

"Father, don't speak, just lie down."

Feng Jinyao hurried forward to check his injury but knew she had no skills in treating knife wounds. She could only look at her father, biting back her tears.

A servant quickly brought the family doctor into the room, announcing loudly, "The doctor is here."

The doctor frowned at the scene. He wasn't skilled in treating knife wounds; for now, he could only stop the bleeding.

"The household has top-grade hemostatic powder and ginseng. I've sent Xiao Si to fetch them," Bai Xiang said, giving orders. Most household doctors knew more about internal illnesses and rarely dealt with sword injuries.

The doctor nodded and immediately started to bandage the wound. It was three inches below the ribs. Although it hadn't damaged the heart, the wound looked dangerous. Fortunately, there wasn't much blood loss, and Feng Hai seemed conscious.

"How is my father's injury?"

After examining the wound, the doctor found it strange. The wound was located on an artery, and if it had been pierced, Feng Hai could have bled to death within minutes. Yet, the bleeding was surprisingly minimal.

With this assessment, the doctor decided to cut open the clothes to examine further.

Just then, Feng Jinlin rushed in with Doctor Zhang.

As it happened, he had run into Doctor Zhang, carrying his medicine box, and dragged him over without explanation.

"Doctor Zhang is here."

Hearing his name, everyone in the room breathed a sigh of relief, especially the household doctor, who feared the consequences if Feng Hai died due to his incompetence.

He immediately stepped aside, ready to assist Doctor Zhang.

Doctor Zhang, visibly annoyed at being dragged over, glared at Feng Jinlin. He was so upset that his beard bristled, refusing to treat Feng Hai.

Feng Jinyao couldn't wait any longer. Even if she could, her father couldn't. She quickly stepped forward and pleaded.

"Uncle Shou, please save my father."

Finally letting out her suppressed sobs, she clung to Doctor Zhang's sleeve with tearful eyes.

Seeing the young lady in tears would soften even the hardest heart. He walked over to the still-conscious Feng Hai, took out a pill from his pocket, and slipped it into Feng Hai's mouth.

Shortly after taking the pill, the pain from the knife wound seemed to lessen significantly.

Everyone couldn't help but admire Doctor Zhang's skills once again.

"Prepare hot water, strong liquor, and candles. Also, leave two people here to assist; the rest should leave the room."

The three siblings had experienced Doctor Zhang's temper before and didn't dare to disobey. They immediately issued the orders.

"I, Jinlin, and the household doctor will stay here. Ah Yao and Siruo, you both accompany Grandfather to the front hall to rest. The others, follow the doctor's instructions, quickly."

Feng Jinxu arranged everything meticulously. Feng Jinyao wanted to stay, but Feng Jinxu stopped her. Every moment of delay risked their father's life.

Moreover, it wasn't appropriate for a young lady to witness such a bloody scene. She had already taken care of Feng Yunhe for many days, and they couldn't let her tire herself further.

He then spoke to Bai Xiang, "Grandfather, please wait in the front hall. You are old and shouldn't overexert yourself."

"Alright, take good care of your father."

"Don't worry, Grandfather."

With Doctor Zhang growing increasingly impatient, Bai Xiang led the others out.

Once everyone left, the first thing Doctor Zhang did was inspect the wound.

Winter clothing was thick, so the stab wasn't too deep. Doctor Zhang cut open the clothes, revealing a coagulated wound, which puzzled him, though he didn't show it.

He softly said, "Don't worry, this wound won't kill him."

Hearing this, the brothers finally relaxed, helping Doctor Zhang undress their father for better treatment.

After removing the clothes, they found not only the stab wound under the ribs but also bruises and scrapes on his arm, which looked even more ghastly.

Doctor Zhang took a green bottle from his medicine box, sprinkled the powder on the wound, which immediately stopped bleeding, and wrapped it with bandages.

After carefully inspecting the bruises and scrapes on the arms and legs, confirming no bone damage, he applied ointment for the bruises and redressed the wounds.

Compared to the injuries he had treated in the military years ago, this was trivial.

But what puzzled him was the assassin's intent.

The attacker had struck fiercely yet applied excellent hemostatic medicine to the knife, which meant Feng Hai's injuries weren't severe.

What was the purpose of this?

Could it be a staged act by someone close?

For a moment, Doctor Zhang couldn't decide. The schemes in the capital were too complex for him to fathom.

Leaving behind the prescription and medicine, he gave detailed instructions to the brothers on wound care and prepared to leave.

Feng Jinlin, knowing he had offended Doctor Zhang earlier, offered an apologetic smile after confirming his father's condition.

"Uncle Shou, please be generous. Why not stay a few more days? My father's injury..."

Though he tried to be persuasive, Doctor Zhang was even harder to deal with.
