Chapter 656: Are You Teaching Me How to Handle Things?
As they walked out of the banquet hall, Qin Ruan felt a sense of relief in her breath. She strolled along the path, her figure casting a reflection on the ground under the glow of the streetlights.
In the distance, there was laughter and noise, and she could see lights and shadows flickering through the sparse trees.
Qin Ruan stopped walking and stood by a stone table. She sat on a stone bench, propping her chin on her hands.
Someone behind her draped a coat over her shoulders. Qin Ruan turned to see Lin Hao handing her the coat. "Thank you," she said.
"Don't mention it, Madam," Lin Hao replied, stepping back to stand beside Hou Qiang.
Meanwhile, Rong Jing walked up and sat opposite Qin Ruan.
Under the illumination of the streetlights, Rong Jing looked at Qin Ruan with a complex gaze. After hesitating for a moment, he asked, "Do you know the identities of those two women who fought earlier?"
Qin Ruan gazed at him with indifferent eyes. "I don't know."
She wasn't interested in those matters.
Rong Jing, unaware of her thoughts, straightforwardly told her, "The woman in the light yellow dress, I don't know her identity. The woman she fought with is from the Gong family. She probably isn't an important person; I saw her coming in with the Gong family."
"Oh," Qin Ruan replied, showing little interest.
Rong Jing struggled to ignore her cold attitude. "I just wanted to tell you that the Gong family is one of the six major families. They're currently keeping a low profile and have a low presence. However, they are a subsidiary family of the Hou family. Unless it's something significant, there's no need to pay attention to them."
Qin Ruan's lips curled into a faint smile. "Are you teaching me how to handle things?"
"No!" Rong Jing denied hastily, not wanting to be misunderstood. "I was just informing you about the relationship between the Hou family and the Gong family."
Qin Ruan narrowed her eyes, smiling strangely. She looked at him without saying a word, silently watching.
Rong Jing relaxed his posture and said, "I really didn't mean anything else."
"Oh," Qin Ruan replied casually.
The indifferent attitude made Rong Jing feel somewhat frustrated.
He stood up, adjusted his clothes, and said, "Alright, you stay here. If there's anything, you can ask Hou Qiang. And don't get too close to that woman, Su Jingshu. She's not easy to deal with, and you might not even realize it if she betrays you."
"...," Qin Ruan blinked, the smile on her lips twitching.
Rong Jing seemed to have misunderstood her.
He treated her like a three-year-old child, and he even warned her about being betrayed!
Su Jingshu did indeed have cunning plans, but Qin Ruan wouldn't be so foolish as to let herself be betrayed.
With Rong Jingzhe's worries in mind, Qin Ruan met his concerned gaze and quirked her lips. "Thank you?"
Rong Jing raised his chin with a hint of arrogance. "You're welcome."
He turned and walked away with a confident air, seemingly delighted by doing a good deed.
Qin Ruan watched his departing figure, her expression filled with a mix of amusement and exasperation.
She didn't know if it was because he saw her as too naive or if she had a deceptive appearance.
At the banquet earlier, Qin Ruan had eaten some nuts and had a half glass of fruit juice. Now she felt a bit hungry, and the chocolate Hou Yunjiao placed in her bag came to mind.
Qin Ruan reached into her bag and found the exquisitely packaged chocolate. She unwrapped it and savored the rich and smooth cocoa flavor as she placed a piece in her mouth.
Seeing that Rong Jing and the others were still there, she took another chocolate and offered it to Rong Jing. "Do you want one?"
Rong Jing took the chocolate from her hand and thanked her. Then, he sat down with a dispirited expression. "Why aren't you going back to the banquet?" Qin Ruan asked.
With a lackluster expression, Rong Jing replied, "I don't know anyone there. My cousin was taken away by someone, and it's not fun to be alone in there."
Qin Ruan raised an eyebrow. "You are now a member of the Rong family. You need to build more relationships, which will be helpful for your future development. You didn't have any background before and experienced the coldness of human relationships. Now that you have a successful platform, don't miss this opportunity."
Rong Jing stared at her, looking puzzled. "Why?"
"Because with beneficial relationships, you can see through people's true nature. You must have seen many situations while indulging in revelry before. Whether in the lower or upper social circles, everything revolves around the word 'benefits.'"
Qin Ruan explained in a knowledgeable manner, but Rong Jing still couldn't understand. He seemed lost. "It's not that easy. We don't know each other, and everyone has different personalities. It's difficult to know where to start."
"Always remember that there is a starting point for every interaction. You can start by engaging with those who have beneficial relationships with the Rong family. By doing so, you can better understand people's true nature. In the past, you may have been too preoccupied with love affairs, but now that you have a foundation, it's time to think about the future and build connections strategically," Qin Ruan advised.
Rong Jing blinked and looked puzzled. "What about you?"
"What about me?" Qin Ruan asked.
"You seem indifferent to everything, as if you don't care about anything."
In Rong Jing's eyes, Qin Ruan was in the same situation as him, having jumped into the circle of nobility. They should both be facing the same dilemma.
Qin Ruan smiled with a hint of amusement in her eyes. "Right now, I don't need these social connections. My family, my child, and Third Master are the people I prioritize."
After the child was born, she couldn't escape these tedious and scheming social interactions.
For hundreds of years, the four major families and the six major families had never known peace.
There were no permanent enemies or friends. Everything was about interests.
She wanted to spend her life with Hou Yunjiao and raise her child, and she was destined to leave her comfort zone someday.
Rong Jing stared at her bulging belly, understanding her situation.
Indeed, Qin Ruan's belly was quite large. This was the fourth generation heir that the Hou family had been anticipating.
This precious child must not have any accidents.
"Ah!"
Suddenly, a miserable scream resounded.
The voice came from a place not far away, beyond the trees, where lights and shadows were flickering.
An angry male voice followed, rough and filled with rage,
"You shameless bitch! I didn't even touch you, just wanted you to have a few drinks. What are you pretending to be virtuous for?!"
"I... I can't drink..." The woman's pitiful sobbing followed, sounding distressed and pitiable.
"I brought you here, do you think it was for nothing? You won't even let me touch you, and you refuse to drink. Who do you think you're pretending for?!" The man's anger grew, provoked by the woman's attitude.
