Chapter 237: Dragon Boat Festival
Ye Muyu didn't restrict much and after Chu Jin's reflections, seeing that her son hadn't done anything wrong, she naturally wouldn't say much.
While Ye Muyu was busy researching different pastries, the day of the Dragon Boat Festival quickly arrived.
Chu Heng took a three-day holiday.
Early in the morning after having breakfast, Ye Muyu and Hu began to put the prepared zongzi into the pot.
The pot in the Chu family wasn't large, it could only steam fifty at a time. Ye Muyu and Hu made various types of fillings, a total of two hundred and sixty zongzi.
For the other four branches, each branch had to send at least thirty zongzi. In the old house, the main and second branches also needed to send thirty each, totaling one hundred and eighty zongzi.
As for the acquaintances from Chu Heng's academy, they needed to send ten each, so the quantity was not small.
One pot was not enough, so they had to light the stove and use a steamer. It could barely be done in three steaming sessions with each session taking half an hour.
While the stove was being taken care of by Hu and Zhang Shu, Ye Muyu came out of the kitchen and bumped into Chu Heng coming out of the study.
"Did I disturb your reading? If you want, you can close the door." Ye Muyu thought about the food smells coming out of the kitchen and said subconsciously.
Chu Heng walked up to her, reached out, and tousled her hair in front of her forehead, slightly frowning. "Why are you doing all this? You haven't taken care of your health. Don't overexert yourself."
"I'm not really doing much. It's just too hot and I sweated a bit." Ye Muyu casually wiped the sweat from her forehead, preparing to help him close the study windows.
Chu Heng stopped her with his hand. "No need. It's a rare holiday in a few days. I don't need to read books to death. Later, I have to prepare gifts for the clan members. I'll help you."
Actually, Chu Heng wasn't just reading books all the time. Apart from attending the academy, he spent the rest of his time writing annotations and exam papers for the provincial and metropolitan exams. As the saying goes, a scholar's silver is the easiest to earn and he wouldn't let such an opportunity pass by.
Seeing him without any hint of reluctance, Ye Muyu didn't insist. "Alright."
Chu Heng followed Ye Muyu into the storage room. There were quite a few items in the storage room, including wine, tea leaves, and more.
Luchuan came in with a roll of red thread. "Madam, Master, this is the gift packaging thread."
"A pot of wine, a bag of tea leaves, along with thirty zongzi, and a bag of brown sugar. That's for one family." Ye Muyu sat down on a stool and slowly arranged the gifts.
Luchuan had strong hands and took care of tying the red string around the wine jug.
Chu Heng didn't want Ye Muyu to exert herself too much, so he gave her the lightest package, which was the bag of tea leaves.
He dealt with the red sugar himself.
The three of them busied themselves for a while, and the gifts for the Chu family were all ready.
Ye Muyu asked Chu Heng, "What gifts do you need for your classmates?"
"Cut everything in half, that will be enough." Chu Heng wasn't very familiar with his classmates and some of them came from families with poorer conditions. If he gave too much, it would be a burden for them.
So, giving gifts was also a skill.
"For the Xie family and the Du family, I'll handle it." Chu Heng said. The Du family had better relations with him and the Xie family would be a token of goodwill for Xie Yu rather than for the Xie family itself.
Ye Muyu nodded, understanding the situation.
When the first batch of zongzi was ready, Ye Muyu had already packed the gifts.
