Chapter 757: Farewell, Hou Shi
Once the cart stopped in the post station's courtyard, Shu Yu dismissed the inn attendant who had escorted her inside. She then turned to Cheng Dong and said, "Guard Cheng, please wait in the cart for a moment. I'll go inside and find Hou Shi. I'll get a veil hat for you, don't worry, I won't let her know who you really are."
"Alright."
Seeing Cheng Dong's agreement, Shu Yu quickly got off the cart and went to the front yard to find Hou Shi.
Hou Shi was momentarily surprised when she saw Shu Yu, about to greet her with joy, but was pulled aside by Shu Yu, who whispered a few words to her.
Hou Shi immediately understood and nodded, saying, "Wait here for me."
It didn't take long before Hou Shi returned, holding a veil hat and a set of dusty clothes.
Shu Yu took the veil hat and walked back to where the cart was parked. However, when she lifted the curtain, there was no one inside.
Shu Yu wasn't surprised at all. Cheng Dong was a cautious person. How could he obediently wait outside?
After putting down the curtain, Shu Yu anxiously looked around, saying, "Where is he? Why is he gone? Could it be that he encountered assassins again?"
"I'm here, Miss Lu." A figure quietly emerged from behind a nearby wall.
Shu Yu's face brightened, and she quickly ran up to him. "As long as you're safe. Come, put on the veil hat."
She then handed him the shabby clothes. "Cheng Guard, your clothes are stained with blood. It would cause panic if you encountered other people on the way. Although these clothes don't fit well, you can drape them over yourself to cover the bloodstains. Please bear with it."
"Thank you."
"Let's go." After putting on the clothes, Shu Yu led him through winding paths until they arrived at a secluded room farthest from the front yard.
Hou Shi was already waiting at the door for them. She saw Shu Yu approaching, glanced at Cheng Dong, and said, "Come in first. I've cleaned this area, and there aren't usually many people passing through. This room is temporarily unoccupied, so you can rest assured that it's safe."
Shu Yu smiled and said, "Thank you." Then, she helped Cheng Dong into the room.
She could clearly sense that Cheng Dong was struggling to hold on, which was just perfect. It wasn't in vain that she deliberately led him on a longer route.
Supporting Cheng Dong to sit by the bedside, Shu Yu turned to Hou Shi and said, "Please bring a basin of hot water, some warm water to drink, and clean towels."
"Alright."
Hou Shi left, and Shu Yu closed the door behind her. Concerned, she asked, "Guard Cheng, how are you doing? Are you sure you don't need to call a doctor?"
"No need."
Shu Yu could only give up. "Then, what should we do next? Should we inform prefect Cheng?"
Cheng Dong was actually quite impatient, but he knew that if he didn't answer, this person in front of him would likely "do more harm than good" with good intentions. She still had some use to him.
"Don't do anything. Prefect Cheng is temporarily safe, and there are people watching over him. Even if we wanted to inform him, we wouldn't be able to. Instead, let's go somewhere else for reinforcements. I need to rest now. When I wake up, I'll tell you what to do."
Shu Yu nodded repeatedly. "Alright, I'll listen to you, Guard Cheng."
Cheng Dong leaned against the wall, feeling drowsy as if he was about to pass out.
Hou Shi entered the room with the things she had brought. Seeing that Cheng Dong seemed motionless, she lowered her voice and asked, "Ah Yu, who is this person? What's wrong with him?"
"He is a friend of my brother," Shu Yu replied in a low voice. "Don't worry, he's not a bad person. He just encountered some trouble. He'll leave once his injuries improve."

*** base on my understanding every post station has an inn for the travelers to spend their night's with, that's why inn and post station has been used alternately
