PWDLAW Chapter 238: Eating Zongzi
Chapter 238: Eating Zongzi
She brought out five different flavors of zongzi from the kitchen, five of each, and placed them on the dining table.
"Mom, what kind of zongzi do we have this time?" Chu Ziluo had been busy preparing for the upcoming female art competition these past few days and only now had the chance to catch her breath. She asked Ye Muyu in a playful manner.
"We have red bean filling, fresh meat filling, jujube paste filling, purple sweet potato filling, and salted duck egg filling."
"Two salty, three sweet. I thought you guys prefer sweet, so I made fewer salty ones."
Ye Muyu pointed to the five types of zongzi on the table. "Try whichever you like."
Chu Ziluo reached out and took a zongzi. "Mom, I like the jujube paste filling, it's fragrant and soft."
Chu Jin was a foodie. Although he initially wanted the red bean filling, he was a carnivore. Since there were new flavors this time, he was curious. His hand swerved and he picked up a zongzi with fresh meat filling.
"Mom, can zongzi with salty filling be tasty?" Chu Jin poked the still-steaming zongzi and asked.
"You'll know once you taste it." Ye Muyu thought that there was no definitive answer between salty and sweet zongzi. It all depended on personal preference.
Unable to figure out a reason, Chu Jin wasn't disappointed. Instead, he excitedly said, "Mom, can I go to the county with Uncle Chu Xing in the afternoon?"
He had been thinking about this for a long time. After all, the past ten days had been spent making Zhuge Suo, and he really wanted to see which pattern of Zhuge Suo could sell well.
He even made a bet with Uncle Chu Xing.
"Let Zhang Shu go with you." Ye Muyu knew what he was thinking. She glanced at Chu Heng and seeing that he didn't object, she said, "Don't run around in the county. If you're kidnapped, you won't be able to come back home. Understand?"
Chu Jin quickly nodded and promised, "Mom, you can rest assured. I'll stay close to Uncle Chu Xing and Zhang Shu."
He knew that although his dad didn't care about him, if he caused his mom to worry, he wouldn't be able to escape punishment. Chu Jin subconsciously glanced at his stern father and seeing his unfriendly expression, he quickly shrank his neck and obediently went to eat zongzi.
Ye Muyu could see his apprehension but felt relieved. "Which one do you want to eat?" Ye Muyu turned her head and asked Chu Heng. Originally, she didn't care but when both children started eating and she didn't see the man beside her moving, Ye Muyu felt that this guy might be sulking again. For the sake of family harmony, she treated him as a younger generation to care for and any conflict could be resolved without a trace. This was the conclusion Ye Muyu had reached in her interactions with Chu Heng over the past few days.
Chu Heng, seeing Ye Muyu taking the initiative to ask him, instantly felt better and his gaze softened.
"Is this salted duck egg filling a new variety you've made?" Chu Heng asked.
"Yes, you can try it." Ye Muyu with her long and slender white fingers, peeled a zongzi and placed it in front of him.
She took a zongzi with fresh meat filling for herself.
Chu Heng tasted it. He thought that the salty flavor would be difficult to swallow but unexpectedly the taste was decent.
"This salted duck egg seems not too salty." Chu Heng commented.
Ye Muyu nodded. "Although more salt would make it last longer, if the taste is too salty, it wouldn't be edible in the zongzi."
"Because only egg yolks are used, so... the egg whites are for us to eat." Because of this, the zongzi with salted duck egg filling made by Ye Muyu was limited.
