Chapter 241: Delivering Gifts Door-to-Door
Chu Ziluo was inherently intelligent, quick to grasp concepts and her response pleased Ye Muyu immensely.
"Not bad, that's the way." Ye Muyu reached out and tousled her hair "Take a break for a while. I'll call you for lunch later. You've been working hard during this time."
"Mother, I'm not tired. I enjoy learning these things and I want to be as capable as you, Mother." Chu Ziluo said earnestly, with a sparkling smile in the corners of her eyes.
"Mother believes you can."
Encouraged by Ye Muyu, Chu Ziluo walked away with a lighter step.
While she went back to her room, she was actually summarizing what she had learned with Nenya.
Ye Muyu got up and placed the remaining zongzi back into a large plate, intending to deliver them as gifts later.
Meanwhile, Zhang Shu and his wife had already eaten their zongzi.
After steaming the zongzi and wrapping them up, Chu Heng started delivering gifts door-to-door.
Luchuan helped with the horse-drawn carriage since there was too much alcohol, making it too heavy to carry by hand.
Chu Heng first went to the fifth household, the closest to his own.
"Aunt Five, wishing you a happy Dragon Boat Festival."
Chu Heng got off the carriage, handed the gifts to Qian and Shen.
Qian, upon seeing Chu Heng, greeted him warmly "Ah Heng, it's rare for you to personally bring them over. Your Fifth Uncle is also delivering zongzi. This year, we made quite a few zongzi with sweet bean paste filling. They're large in size. Aunt Five knows you like sweet bean paste, so make sure to eat your fill this time."
"Thank you, Aunt Five. My family made some with savory filling this year. Give them a try, although they are smaller in size, there are plenty of them." Chu Heng replied.
Qian and Shen had already seen the zongzi that Chu Heng brought. Although they wondered why they were considerably smaller than usual, the quantity was abundant and there was a delightful fragrance.
Since they were just taken out, still warm and had a distinct aroma, Qian didn't think Chu Heng was being stingy. There must be a reason behind it.
Hearing about the savory ones, Qian was curious, "Savory zongzi? What's inside?"
"Fresh meat and salted duck egg yolk."
"We only have two salted duck egg yolks, I was worried you might not like them, so I didn't take many." Chu Heng took the large zongzi from Aunt Five and didn't say much "Aunt Five, I'll continue to deliver to my father and the others."
"Go ahead, go ahead."
Qian saw Chu Heng off with a smile.
Shen, carrying the zongzi, and Qian, with tea, sugar, and wine, entered the house.
"I think Chu Heng's family's zongzi are even more fragrant than ours. Let's have Chu Heng's family's zongzi for lunch today." Qian suggested and others naturally didn't object.
However, there were no men left in the house, they had all gone to the county to sell the newly crafted toys.
Only the women were present in the house.
Shen opened one savory zongzi, took a bite, and commented, "Mother, these savory zongzi are delicious. They taste better than the ones we attempted to make before. You can bite into the meat with just one bite."
Qian also opened one, agreeing with Shen "Indeed, even though Chu Heng's family's zongzi are smaller, they are flavorful. The filling is much more delicious than what we made ourselves."
"No wonder they are so small." Qian added, "Mother, save some for our husbands. They haven't tried them yet."
"Of course."
There wasn't much talk in the fifth household.
Chu Heng was the last to go to the old house. When he arrived, he saw Zhang quarreling with a woman.
By the time Chu Heng's carriage arrived, the woman had already left and with a casual glance, Chu Heng recognized her as Li Gendi's wife from the Li family at the village entrance.
