Chapter 44: You Are Not In Exile You Are Clearly Traveling!

  Chapter 44: The Strange Rabbits

Rustle, rustle.

Xu Tian hadn't even had time to ease his shock when he heard a noise beside him. Then, he saw rabbits of all sizes, like a family, darting out from the bushes.

These rabbits seemed to have made a pact as they bounced toward Chen Xue... and collided with the nearby big tree.

Bang, bang, bang!

Watching one rabbit after another, as if in line, collide with the tree in front of Chen Xue, the sound was like iron hammers striking his heart, causing it to tremble.

Watching the rabbits neatly fall to the ground, Chen Xue picked them up as if picking cabbage, and Xu Tian suddenly began to doubt life.

Why was it so difficult for him to catch a rabbit, like a blind dog catching a mouse, while Chen Xue could just wait by the tree and catch them effortlessly?

Even her actions of picking up the rabbits... were heart-wrenching.

Could it be that this also depended on looks?

Just because Miss Chen is beautiful, the rabbits are attracted to her because of her appearance, and then foolishly fall into the trap?

This... is too absurd!

But besides this, there seemed to be no other explanation. After all, this was too fantastical; the rabbits actually seemed to have agreed and were rushing toward the big tree beside Chen Xue.

If he hadn't seen it with his own eyes, he would have thought the story of waiting by the tree for rabbits was fabricated by others.

Seeing Xu Tian disheveled in the wind, the servants of the Chen family shrugged and ignored him. After all, they had the same expression initially.

Chen Xue didn't expect Xu Tian to suddenly appear. While he was distracted, she quickly collected the rabbits, leaving a few well-hidden, and then quickly took away the traps entangled in the tree.

Of course, she didn't forget to take away the carrot bait.

...

"Caught anything?"

Kuang Wei thrust the burning branches into the hole, then looked up at the others and inquired.

"No."

Others frowned, "Is there only one rabbit in this hole?"

At first, when they caught one rabbit, they were excited, but now, after waiting so long, the rabbits inside hadn't come out, dampening their spirits.

"Let's go, check elsewhere!"

Kuang Wei picked up the rabbit, took a few steps, then frowned.

"Is this rabbit dead?"

Others gathered around, "It's impossible. When we caught it, it was lively. Just after a while, how could it be dead?"

"Could it be because its legs were tied, then broken, and it died?" Someone speculated.

"Nonsense, stop making things up!"

The crowd was speechless; this way of dying was too bizarre.

Kuang Wei threw the rabbit on the ground, but it still didn't react at all. He squatted down, untied the rope from the rabbit's legs.

Whoosh!

As soon as the rope was untied, the rabbit kicked its legs, disappeared in front of everyone's eyes, and darted into the bushes.

"D*mn, this dead rabbit can still play dead!"

Kuang Wei couldn't help but curse loudly, "Quick, chase it, don't let it escape!"

Several people hurriedly chased after it, but stopped the next second, looking ahead with horror on their faces.

One of the constables turned pale, his teeth chattering, "W-Wei ge, c-could it be... we're seeing ghosts!"

Others also subconsciously swallowed their saliva, a hint of fear emerging in their hearts.

Kuang Wei looked up in confusion, his pupils shrinking instantly.

In the dim forest, rabbits with red eyes emerged from the hole, as if they had agreed, bouncing towards the front.

This wasn't just eerie.

What was eerie was...

Whether intentional or not, these rabbits actually bounced forward as if in line.

Images of zombies described in strange books emerged in the minds of the crowd, one after another bouncing towards the distance in the woods.

This scene was so similar to what was described in those strange books.

What made them even more terrified was...

Some rabbits, even if they collided with trees, didn't turn back, but continued to bounce in the same direction.

Even a rabbit that had been bitten by a snake showed no reaction, continuing to bounce with the snake on its body.

This scene made Kuang Wei and the others pale. If the previous scene wasn't terrifying enough, what about now?

Under normal circumstances, shouldn't the rabbit scream if bitten by a snake?

Shouldn't it be jumping frantically, trying to shake off the snake?

But now?

The rabbit seemed to have no feeling at all, ignoring whether it was bitten or carrying a snake, bouncing towards the same direction.

Coupled with the dim light and occasional cold wind, the forest became even more eerie and strange.

The wind rustled the leaves, emitting a creepy sound, sending shivers down their spines.

Gurgle!

The crowd swallowed their saliva, afraid to move, fearing they might disturb the eerie group of rabbits.

Then, they looked at Kuang Wei.

"Wei ge, do we still go over there?"

Go over there?

Go to our deaths?

Kuang Wei glared at them, suppressing his fear, "Forget it, let's check elsewhere. The rabbits over there are obviously abnormal. Eating them might cause trouble."

Upon hearing this, the others breathed a sigh of relief, quickly turned and ran away, wanting to get away from this place.

"D*mn it!"

Watching the others run away, Kuang Wei cursed, then hearing the noise behind him, he ran without looking back.

"You bunch of idiots, wait for me!"

After running for a while, the crowd couldn't see the eerie rabbits, finally breathing a sigh of relief.

"That place is definitely problematic!"

"Right, there might really be something eerie there!"

The crowd started discussing excitedly, unanimously believing that there was definitely something wrong with that place.

Moreover, they felt as if someone was watching them from the surrounding forest.

"Don't overthink it!" Kuang Wei reprimanded, "It's just a group of rabbits, don't scare yourselves."

Although they were rabbits, they were definitely not normal rabbits!

Can normal rabbits behave like this?

The people silently criticized, but dared not refute. Firstly, they respected Kuang Wei's authority, and secondly, they wanted to forget the horrifying scene as soon as possible.

"By the way, isn't that the place where the Chen family and Xu Tian are?"

Someone suddenly remembered and couldn't help but remind them.

The crowd was stunned. Indeed, the direction the eerie group of rabbits went was where Xu Tian and the others were.

"This is a blessing in disguise!"

Upon hearing this, Kuang Wei burst into laughter.

If Xu Tian and the others were killed by those eerie rabbits, wouldn't they win?

Seemingly understanding his thoughts, someone spoke up, "Wei ge, if Chen Xue also dies, what's the use of us winning?"

That's right!

Kuang Wei suddenly remembered; their target was Chen Xue, and she was with Xu Tian in the same place where the eerie group of rabbits went.

"Should we go and save them?"

As soon as this was said, it was met with attacks from others, "Save them? Save yourself from death!"

"Exactly, if you want to die, go ahead, we want to live!"

The thought of those eerie rabbits sent shivers down their spines, let alone getting closer.

They looked at Kuang Wei, afraid he would suggest going over.

They were human, not cats, they didn't have nine lives!

Feeling the gaze of the crowd, Kuang Wei knew they were waiting for his answer.

"Don't bother with them, let's continue hunting."

The person spoke up again, "If Chen Xue dies, we can say we've won already. What's the point of hunting further?"

"Then eat them yourself." The crowd glared at him, then began to punch and kick him, "You talk too much."
