Chapter 465: Shu Yu is Recognized

The middle-aged couple turned out to be the steward couple who had previously lived in the Zhuangzi.

Since they were putting on a show, they had to go all the way.

In the eyes of others, they appeared to be genuinely concerned about Shu Yu. Now that she was leaving the city, they had come to bid her farewell, giving her some silver as a token of goodwill.

As they were still near the city gate, there were many eyes watching them.

The leading official nodded as he looked at the silver in his hand. "Alright, I understand. Don't worry, we will take care of her."

The middle-aged couple nodded, and the woman wiped away her tears before glancing in Shu Yu's direction.

The leading official gestured for them to say their goodbyes.

The couple quickly approached Shu Yu and whispered a few words, expressing their concerns for her well-being.

Shu Yu kept her head lowered the entire time, occasionally responding or choking back a sob.

The couple didn't stay long and immediately stepped aside, not wanting to waste the official's time.

The other members of the Shu family looked at them with anger and jealousy.

"Why is her luck so good? Even in such dire straits, she still encounters two fools who bring her food and give her money."

Fourth Miss complained indignantly, while Second Miss furrowed her brow.

With someone providing them with silver, it was highly unlikely that the officials would do anything to harm Shu Yu.

If they couldn't keep an eye on Shu Yu, wouldn't she be in danger?

Before they could dwell on their thoughts, the leading official waved his hand. "Continue walking."

The group started moving again, but after a few steps, one of the officials quietly moved to Shu Yu's side.

That official thought they wouldn't gain anything on this journey, and he was feeling quite annoyed. However, he hadn't expected that there would be someone here who would give them silver.

Although it was just a small amount, every bit counted.

Five taels of silver would be enough for them to have a good meal and drink along the way.

He walked up to Shu Yu and carefully observed her.

Having been at a distance earlier, he didn't know what the woman and the couple had said to each other. But he was certain that they had given her some silver.

"I heard that you are the Shu family's adopted daughter?" He spoke to Shu Yu while glancing at her hands, suspecting that she held money tightly clenched in her fist.

Shu Yu softly murmured, "Mmm."

The official smiled. "It seems being an adopted daughter is even better than being a biological daughter."

Shu Yu could only smile and offer a few words of agreement.

The official didn't say much after that, especially since the leading official had already called for him. He had to stop there and added, "If you encounter any trouble later, you can find me. I'm an easy person to talk to."

"Thank you, sir," Shu Yu replied.

The official furrowed his brow. "Raise your head and look at me, otherwise, you won't even know who I am and how to find me."

Shu Yu sighed inwardly. This person was so annoying.

Fortunately, they were already outside the city, and there weren't as many people around.

Shu Yu closed her eyes, lifted her head, and glanced at the official.

The official finally seemed satisfied. Just as the leading official hurried over and kicked him, "Didn't you hear me calling you? What nonsense are you spouting? Go ahead and lead the way!"

The two officials pushed

and shoved Shu Yu forward.

Shu Yu let out a sigh of relief and lowered her head again.

Little did she know that in that split second when she lifted her eyes, someone not far away had already seen her and recognized her. They stood there, shocked, unable to move, as they watched her figure recede into the distance.
