Chapter 106: Shu Yu Kicks the Door
Chapter 106: Shu Yu Kicks the Door
Da Ya didn't say a word, which annoyed Feng Shi. She tossed a melon seed shell at Da Ya and said, "I'm asking you a question. Have you lost your voice?"
Da Ya kept her head lowered and silently continued her work.
What's the use of saying anything? Even if she dared to speak up, they would only make things worse.
However, even if she remained silent, the other members of Zhang's family had no intention of calming down.
The children who were previously playing and running around saw Feng Shi throwing melon seed shells and found it amusing, so they immediately ran over.
They lined up and, while munching on melon seeds, started throwing them at Da Ya's head.
Da Ya furrowed her brow and raised her hand to shield herself. The children immediately became unhappy. "Third Aunt, put your hand down. We can't aim properly."
"Auntie, Third Aunt doesn't want to play with us."
Zhang's old lady walked over in a few steps. "Third sister's in law, put your hand down. The children are just playing with you, and you're feeling wronged, right?"
Da Ya whispered, "Mother, I... I need to work and don't have time to play."
"Still talking back?" old lady Zhang became even more annoyed upon hearing her refusal. She glanced around and picked up a corn cob stick from the ground, then swung it towards Da Ya.
Da Ya was struck on her arm, and just as Zhang's old lady was about to strike again...
A loud "bang" resounded as someone forcefully kicked open the courtyard gate.
Shu Yu looked up and immediately saw Da Ya crouching in the corner, having been struck by Zhang's old lady.
Shu Yu tightened her grip on the bundle hanging on her back, suppressed her anger, and walked step by step toward the yard.
The people from Zhang's family were momentarily stunned, all looking in their direction.
Seeing the shaky courtyard gate, old lady Zhang dropped the corn cob stick in her hand and angrily approached them. "Who are you? Why did you come to my house? Who gave you the right to kick our courtyard gate?"
At the entrance, Da Niu was stunned by Shu Yu's forceful kick on the door. It was only when he heard old lady Zhang's yelling that he snapped out of it. Seeing Shu Yu enter, he hurriedly followed and casually closed the already broken courtyard gate.
Shu Yu scanned the surroundings. The men from Zhang's family were nowhere to be seen, whether they had gone out or were resting inside the house.
However, several women glared at her with indignation.
Da Ya also raised her head and was shocked to see Shu Yu and Da Niu. She stood up abruptly, but the sudden movement made her head spin, and she almost stumbled forward.
After managing to stabilize herself, she quickly took a few steps forward. "Er Ya! Da Niu! Why did you come here?"
As she approached, Shu Yu noticed the many melon seed shells scattered in Da Ya's hair.
Her head felt buzzing, realizing that in just a short time she had been away, Zhang's family had intensified their mistreatment of Da Ya.
Upon hearing Da Ya's address and seeing the somewhat familiar Da Niu, Zhang's old lady immediately recognized them. "So, you're Da Ya's siblings. Why did you come so late?"
Shu Yu completely ignored her. She held Da Ya's hand and led her to sit aside, pulling out another chair and squatting beside it. She took off the bundle on her back, opened it, and took out three paper-wrapped packages.
One package contained steamed buns, another had grapes, and the third had two chicken legs.
She placed the three packages in front of Da Ya and said gently, "Eat first. When you're full, you'll have the energy. Leave this to me and Da Niu."
Chapter complete.
