Chapter 97: Night Before the Divorce the Villainous Family Can Hear My Thoughts!

Chapter 97: It Turns Out Mrs. Huo Doesn’t Like This~

Huo Yushu hung up the phone in a great mood, even humming a little tune, as she waved at the General. "General, come here."

The dog, General, obediently walked over to her, rubbing his head against her lap, seemingly trying to please her.

"You did great today, General! I’ll give you an extra chicken drumstick later!" she said, rubbing the dog’s head with a cheerful smile.

Then, the other three dogs—Sesame, Glutinous Rice, and Tangyuan—came running over, looking up at her and mimicking each other, as if to say: "Dad gets extra chicken, we did well too! We should get some too!"

"Okay, okay! You’ll all get extra!" Huo Yushu said, still smiling. "Now remember, next time you see those annoying people, just pounce on them and scare them half to death!"

And then, she was playfully rolling around in the yard with the four dogs.

Inside the house, the four people sat on the sofa.

Shen Cheng was enjoying the enthusiastic feeding from Huo Xingjian—he had cut a plate of fruit for her.

At the moment, she was sitting beside the old man, offering him a piece of fruit, then passing a piece to Mrs. Wen.

As she picked up a third piece, Huo Xingjian reached out to take it, but she immediately put it into her own mouth.

Huo Xingjian’s hand froze in midair, his expression awkward.

Shen Cheng pretended not to notice and sarcastically said, "The shape of this fruit is really ugly. I don’t know if the person who cut it was in a bad mood, but how else could they have cut it into such ugly, unappetizing pieces?"

Huo Xingjian: "..."

Is this intentional? She's clearly criticizing me, finding any excuse to make fun of me.

"What shape do you prefer?" He asked with a gentle smile, trying to stay composed. "I’ll cut it that way next time."

"As long as it’s not ugly, I’m fine," Shen Cheng answered slowly.

[Oh, so the definition of "not ugly" is up to me, huh? Well, the final say belongs to me! Anyway, if it’s cut by you, it’ll definitely be ugly.]

The old man and Mrs. Wen exchanged a sympathetic glance: "This guy’s got a long road ahead of him. Good luck, son! You brought this upon yourself with all the trouble you’ve caused in the past."

Huo Xingjian was frustrated and wronged!

Clearly, it wasn’t just him who was troublesome and reckless in the past! His mom and Huo Yushu were the same! Why was Shen Cheng always picking on him?

In the end, he concluded: the deeper the love, the harsher the criticism.

If Shen Cheng didn’t care so much about him, how could she hate him so much? It’s just one of those "tough love" things.

After all, women are always contradictory like that.

He shifted closer to Shen Cheng on the couch.

"Hey..."

"Would you like to see the famous paintings my grandfather has collected in his study?" Huo Xingjian whispered in her ear. "Each one is worth a fortune."

Shen Cheng nodded without hesitation, her face full of anticipation. "Yes!"

"Do you think the fruit I cut looks nice?" Huo Xingjian smiled affectionately, glancing at the fruit plate she was holding. He leaned in again and whispered in her ear, "I can get you the most expensive one."

"No... maybe not?" Shen Cheng was tempted.

"Yes!" He grinned like an old fox. "Do you think the fruit I cut looks nice?"

"Beautiful, absolutely beautiful! Just like you—so stunningly good-looking that it belongs in the heavens, not often seen on Earth," Shen Cheng replied without hesitation.

[Pfft! My mouth is giving in, but my heart isn’t! I’m only saying this because of the temptation of money. Don’t think for a second my heart will bow to you!]

Huo Xingjian: "..."

Getting his wife to sincerely praise him was proving to be a monumental challenge.

"Come on, let’s broaden your horizons," he said, wrapping an arm around Shen Cheng's waist.

"Smack!" Shen Cheng slapped away his hand without hesitation. "Show me the sights if you want, but don’t..."

"I was just thinking of having Zhang buy another batch of gold tomorrow to fill the safe to the brim," he muttered while pulling his hand back, feigning a pitiful tone. "But I see now that Mrs. Huo doesn’t like such things."

Shen Cheng: "…!"

"I like it, I really like it!" she said quickly, her eyes curving into a smile. Grabbing his hand, the very one she had just smacked away, she placed it back on her waist. "Let’s go, show me the sights."

A satisfied grin appeared on Huo Xingjian’s face as he raised his other hand behind his back, flashing a victory sign at the old man and Mrs. Wen.

The two of them headed toward the old man’s study.

"What are they doing in my study?" the old man asked, looking at Wen Yintong in confusion.

"Dad, why are you being so stingy?" Wen Yintong replied with a warm smile. "Aren’t all your collections meant for Chengzi anyway? Does it really matter if it’s sooner or later?"

"Don’t you want Xingjian to make Chengzi happy sooner? Don’t you want to hold a great-grandchild earlier?"

"Who said I don’t?" the old man retorted, giving her a glare. "I dream about it all the time!"

"Then there you go!" Wen Yintong’s smile was as gentle as spring sunshine. "So why care about them going into your study? If Chengzi likes something, let her take it. Didn’t you say she’s your greatest treasure?"

"Those collections of yours are just lifeless objects. If they can make Chengzi happy, then that’s their greatest value."

The old man nodded in agreement. "You’re absolutely right! Those things are dead, but Chengzi is precious. As long as she’s happy, that’s all that matters."

"But let Xingjian know," the old man added, his tone turning serious, "if he gives away my collections and still fails to please Chengzi, he better not blame me for turning my back on him!"

His indignant demeanor was unexpectedly endearing.

Mrs. Wen nodded repeatedly. "Alright, alright! I get it, I get it! Not only will you turn your back on him, but so will I!"

"Grandpa, Mom, what are you talking about?" Huo Yushu walked in cheerfully. "Who are you turning your back on?"

Mrs. Wen gave her a playful glare. "You! For being so thoughtless!"

"How am I thoughtless?" Huo Yushu argued. "I’ve been quite clever! Let me tell you, I got the hospital to..."

She proceeded to recount the events involving Mrs. Huo and Yu Fengcai at the hospital.

"Ay, my clever little Yushu!" the old man said with satisfaction. "See? Only a scoundrel can handle another scoundrel. Let her stay in that hospital room for a while longer."

"Got it, Grandpa. Leave it to me!" Huo Yushu replied with a smile as bright as a blooming flower.

"Yintong," the old man said, his smile fading as his expression turned serious. "Didn’t I mention before to let Zhujun and Muzhou know about these matters too, so they can guard against those Huo Yunshan people?"

"How about you give Zhujun a call now and set up a time to discuss?"

"Maybe we should hold off on this for a while, Dad," Wen Yintong said thoughtfully.
